So-called RELATED hubs

   Someone wrote about the related hubs featured below their articles NOT being related. I just updated my Academic abstract hub, which shows you how to create a shortish piece of writing for submission and aimed at getting a longer article published for a conference or journal. Three of the "related" hubs following it are all titled "Abstract Art". Related? Definitely NOT! Another hub was "writing for children"!

      It would be better, I think, if Related Hubs were from the same category as the hub they're supposed to relate to rather than just containing similar keywords, which seems to be the way it works.

         That assumes that hubs are in the right category in the first place.  Yesterday I came across one about South Dakota which was in Travel and Places » Visiting Europe » France » Visiting the French Riviera section.

      I know it is really upsetting how unrelated they are! I brought it up in a forum question but it never got in so never an answer !! I hope this brings one; will follow and see.

      Rather than getting upset by "unrelated" Hubs, think about WHY they are unrelated.
      
      The "related Hubs" are chosen by looking at the keywords within a Hub, and finding other Hubs which use those same keywords.   
      
      That's how Google works, too - so if the "Related Hubs" section is looking at your Hub and misunderstanding what it's about, then so might Google, which means your Hub won't get the visitors it deserves.    So it may be time to look at what keywords you are using and see if you can, perhaps, reduce the frequency of the word that's causing the misunderstanding, and increasing the use of other keywords as well or instead.
      
      In your case you are writing about academic abstracts so there may not be much you can do about it. That's a tough one, because it's a very niche subject so there won't be many other Hubs on the subject

            I think we should try to see the humor in these dissimilar juxtapositions. Actually, I don't think the affect us and our hubs too much-- at least they are trying.
            Might be fun and interesting to keep posting the oddball combinations here.

            Seems like YouTube is similar. I  look up something like "funny dogs", by the time I'm done going through the related videos, I end up watching police shoot-outs or something lol

            When I look at your battery Hub, all the Related Hubs are about fire - which makes sense, because your headings are about fire, not batteries. 
            
            This is what I mean - you may not be able to do anything about it, but if the "Related Hubs" are picking up the wrong word as your main subject, then Google may well do the same, and that's obviously a problem.   So it's always worth taking a moment to think about it, and it certainly can't hurt.

               The only hub I have related to my battery warning is a warning hub about Tylenol and on my Tylenol hub they have the battery one so it does make sense to them there. There is nothing I have put that could cause them to put in a History hub as being related to battery fires.

   Check out my thread titled: "unrelated links and products" and "related hub"-?   I suppose I should be happy to have one of my hubs listed as "related", but, as I said, the one about my Biblical novel would be much more related to the "7 Last Words of Jesus on the Cross" than my novel, "The Christmas Victory," which mainly deals with American history.   I took out links to my Biblical novel when the hub went un-featured, and don't want to chance adding them again and having it go un-featured again.  The only reason I can figure that "The Christmas Victory" was chosen as related is that it is by me.  But why they didn't choose the one about my Biblical novel is beyond me.
