Hi Hubbers,
I'd like some help with passing the Quality Assessment Process. Will you please give feedback on my Hub Poisonous Garden Plants: Iris, Azalea, Hydrangea. What can I do to improve? Thanks!
HubPages is a place to read and write about the topics you are passionate about. One of the things we struggle with is blending two different types of intent when authors show their knowledge, but mixes it with extra content that is most likely extraneous.
Your Hub as some very nice visual elements, but it also has some zazzle products. I can see the contextual relevance, but folks looking up this information are interested in tapping into your knowledge.
We see very few problems passing the QAP when the content matches the reader intent without promotional content (links, products) that are a stretch for a reader to be interested in.
My recommendation for THIS hub is to focus your content on the informational aspects. Proof read, give each section a solid heading, and place nice imagery throughout it and to remove all links that may be considered promotional.
I hope that helps.
Thanks Paul - I've removed the link to Zazzle, eBay and AllPosters. Do you think I should remove the final promotional link, which is to Amazon? I assume you do think so, but how can I earn money without promoting things?
You can earn morning with HP's ad program with the share revenue for Adsense.
OK, thanks, I sort of knew that, but useful to see it written
HubPages is about sharing information. A good time to include a product is in an in depth product review.
For topics that are informational, it's best not to or you run a high risk of getting de featured for spammy elements.
While HubPages does share revenue, our primary purpose is to create a place for people to read and write about the topics they love. We hope hubbers share the value of putting readers and information first. Making a bit of money is nice and we need it to run the site, but we don't want to do it at the overall expense of the site.
I hope this helps.
You guys are doing a great job. This site, my experience tells me, has a great future. I think if hp gets a bit more exposure, more people, worldwide, would love to join this site. This site is unique.
Keep up the good job!
OK, I take that on board, thanks.
I do love writing about my interests and passions, and I love photographing things whenever I think of it, "just in case".
It's just that it would be good to earn a bit of money as well as entertaining and informing people. When you're working, salary roughly keeps pace with inflation, but once you're retired, like me, inflation becomes a bit scary as you watch the buying power of your savings fall substantially, and I had rather hoped to counteract this with a modest income from my writing, nothing spectacular, but somewhat more than $12 a month. My labor doesn't seem to be very cost-effective at present, which is disappointing.
If you're really interested in making money, I'd suggest doing really deep product reviews around the topics you love.
I was at Amazon this week and they told me that content that's similar to thewirecutter.com is doing really well for many Amazon associates.
Read one of their articles and you'll get a sense of what it takes. You have to get hands on with the products and do really extensive work. That said, a great product review can earn extraordinary amounts of money.
