Completely out of touch here, probably. I thought there was a way to create customised biographies for particular hubs. I also thought that this was a requirement for the new niche sites.
I have dug through the learning center and can find nothing on the subject.
Is this customised biography feature a figment of an overly fertile imagination?
Or is it real?
If so how do I implement it?
Alliterative answers appreciated.
The bios are a place for you to declare you aren't an article spinner or someone who writes on topics he knows nothing about after a few minutes of Internet research by explaining why you write on a particular topic.
I know it isn't much of anything effective but they were trying.
Something you should know about the feature is that it doesn't affect what three hubs get featured in the bio box on each hub. For instance, the bio I use on all my hubs about homelessness is the same, yet the three hubs featured in the bio box on my homelessness hubs are not necessarily other hubs with the same bio. The same goes for my other bios. It's even the case for the bio that goes only on the chapters of a science fiction novel I'm serializing. The only things I've written that are relevant to that particular bio are the chapters to the book, yet random hubs of mine on whatever subject show up linked in that bio's box.
Disclaimer: I'm new to HP and don't plan to contribute any more work until I see how my several Hubs survive this niche-assignment process.
That said, could someone explain to me who will judge the bios attached to each article as appropriate or not for the Hub.
I'm sorry if this question is too elementary. Thanks.
I see you've already received most of the info you were looking for here, but I'd also like to add that bios are not a strict requirement for niche sites. They are just one of many factors we'll be looking at. But they do help in that they provide the chance to add credibility and demonstrate trustworthiness, which is something we're putting more focus on for the new sites.
Thx for the info.
Could I suggest asking Venkatachari M for the right to copy and paste his howto into the Learning Center? There is no info on bios there.
Then why am I already seeing a hub on TatRing that has no bio, only 10 articles and only 2 followers? Where's the credibility there?
Will, why would you worry with writing bios?
I quickly checked several of your hubs and the bios look good - they relate to the topic of the hubs you use them on.
Peter Piper is proud of your profile and perfect personal bios.
I could probably persuade you that I was blind Chinese monk with super human powers of levitation if I had to, but I would not enjoy doing it...
Will, you can create and manage bios for use in your hubs by clicking to your account page and then select "About the Author" at the top. When creating a hub in edit mode, you can also select which bio you want to have appear in that hub.
The important thing is to make the bio relate to the hub or else HP will disallow usage of your bios according to the TOS. Feel free to see examples of how I wrote my biographies so that they relate to topics of my hubs.
The original blog about this is here... http://blog.hubpages.com/2015/06/25/com … ographies/
Thanks for that. Also thanks to Venkatachari M for such a lucid howto.
To be honest, I was hoping someone was going to say 'they abandoned that feature long ago.'
I don't think that you can tell someone what an authoritative writer you are and expect them to believe you. You actually have to demonstrate the fact in the pages that you write.
But what do I know...
Edit: To staff: when someone goes to the learning center and uses the browser to search for 'bio' or 'biographies', it would be best if something relevent could be found
Yes, click my account and then click "about the author" and land into your personal biography settings. There you can add new "bio". Biography should tell what are your abilities or knowledge for writing particular kind of topic related hubs. So, if you have diversified qualities and qualifications and interests in different types of subjects, you can create as many bios for each one type of interest or qualification that is applied for various types of hubs. Each bio can be associated with as many hubs as you wish by adding those hubs. When you create a bio, it will show up the hubs to be added into that bio in the left hand column. You need to drag and drop it into the right hand column for associating it with the bio. When all your hubs are added like this to all of your bios, the left hand column will become blank. It means that you have added all the hubs and nothing is pending.
I just can't muster any enthusiasm to fool with customized bios.
What is the penalty if we blow it off completely?
I put in mine, "Author hobbies include dissecting cats and clubbing baby seals on weekends." So far, hasn't been a problem.
How about for your recipe hubs, "More smart and fun recipes available on profile."?
Good idea! Thanks!
Now I just need to do it.
I finally approved all those 150-or-so comments a couple of weeks ago, now I just need keep that momentum going and write bios. Ugh. I've never even checked my edited hubs to see how they were changed. I don't know what my problem is; I think it's just that I'm tired of the constantly changing hoops to jump through.
You have always been a source of encouragement, though. I appreciate it.
It only allows room for a few sentences. I would do it for related hubs. Why wouldn't you?
I feel the same about it, but I think their importance depends on the topics you write about. Nobody is going to get sick or injured from solving a math problem wrong, so who cares about my qualifications and experience? But if I write about curing cancer with peppers I think the reader deserves to know if I am a doctor or just play one on TV. I think it increases the likelihood of having your hubs shared if your bio reassures the reader.
Then don't I guess. I don't feel like doing a lot of things either.
Probably so I would assume. But people assume too many things. Maybe someone can chime in with the actual clarification. It is a good question.
You can do one across many hubs..It's really not a big deal. It just looks more pro..why would you not want to provide more info about yourself?
Since it only allows for 140 characters, don't worry about wasting too much time creating a bio. That is one simple sentence. I'm not sure how much credibility you can cram in there.
I didn't know about this. I was on hiatus when it came out. Thanks for asking about it, so I could go and create mine.

I keep attempting to add new bios but after I type it out and choose an article to add it to, I cannot see the save button. There seems to be a search button but I can only see half of that as well. It appears to cut off and that has kept me from adding bios. Any suggestions?

Unless I have been under a rock for the last few months I do not know why a "moderator" would hide my bios from my hubs. Anyone care to speculate?

I have noticed in the past few days while Hub Hopping and scanning my feed that there are a plethora of new hubs and hubbers joining the site and publishing low quality or poorly translated/spun hubs. When I click on the profile after flagging the hubs, I notice that there is no information about...

I'm trying to add my bio to some Hubs. On the right column, the module shows me the hubs using my bio. On the left column there's the list of my existing hubs, but clicking on the "add hub" button on the titles doesn't do anything. It is supposed to select that particular Hub to use the...

Hi everyone! Today we released an update to the Hub Groups interface in My Account. The new interface closely matches the About the Author UI and should be familiar to many of you. Please note that we did not make any functional changes to Hub Groups (such as integrating it with About the Author)...
