Hi Hubbers,
Wow again I see this automatic email and this time I would love to ask, or ...I'd like some help with passing the Quality Assessment Process. Will you please give feedback on my Hub Global Awakening is Happening. What can I do to improve? Thanks!
I'm aware that I have been creative with images....but apart from that what else can it be?
The piece left me confused as I could find no relationship between the pictures and the piece. Photos and illustrations need to add to the piece, not detract. There also has to be a clear connection between the photos and what you are writing about.
The problems are glaringly obvious to me.
These days, if you are going to include an Amazon product, then it must be directly relevant to the main topic of the Hub. It's hard to see how you can say Captain Fantastic is directly related. The second requirement for an Amazon product is that you must include an explanation of why you recommend it. You are not recommending people buy Captain Fantastic, just saying it reminds you of the movie, so why would they want to buy it?
Then we come to the Five Stages of Awakening section. The whole section is a blatant self-promotion for your own novels!
The silly thing is that if you hadn't revealed yourself as the author, but instead gave a review of the books as if they were written by someone else, you could get away with it - because we are all allowed to like and recommend books. What we're not allowed to do is self-promote.
Oh I never saw it from that perspective, about my books I mean. I must admit that I joined Hubpages in order to get known as an author,. I then was never aware that we earned from posting articles. That was all new to me.
The movie Captain Fantastic, is all about living away from all the trappings of Corporate & government control, but I might not have been clear on that. Many thanks .
I have removed my novel links and added something about the movie to see if it makes any difference.
I still don't think the relationship is close enough. The question is, will buying Captain Fantastic help the reader to understand the topic of the Hub? I would say not. That means it's not an acceptable link.
The thing is, one of your books WOULD help the reader to understand the topic of the Hub. If that's the case then you can include it. Just don't refer to it as "my book". Talk about the book, what it says and why it will help the reader, without mentioning your ownership of it. Then there should be no problem.
Thanks again for your advice Marisa and I will follow up your suggestions just to see if it would work. I have now just re-edit and read the article again and yes I does read very differently this time. I hope it will now be published because i do see that google adds are already seen next to this post, or is that not yet live I wonder?
I have now re-edited the article, changed the title, the videos and even the images! Now I truly like to see it reached featured standards. If not then I think it must be the automatic reply email system that keeps it being blocked. I can now truly not see any objections to my article. Yes I did learned a lot and for that I'm grateful. My error was also me clicking on the forum link from inside the repeated emails instead of replying to all of you below from the forum. Sorry about that..
I have almost re-edit my whole article, changed images and added other videos but my article keeps being unpublished. I wonder if it will ever be published. I cannot see anything wrong with it. Should I remove it and post it onto my blog?
Nadine,
I looked over your hub again since you are still having trouble keeping it published.
You have spaces before some periods and commas. You need to remove those.
The cat in your images has nothing to do with the subject and is distracting and confusing to the reader.
Your subtitles need to use proper "title capitalization".
Your images don't appear inside the sections they belong to. It would be better to place the subtitle above the images. You can do this with the "callout" capsule.
Change the last link to a YouTube video into an actual YouTube video capsule, rather than just a link to a video. However, rethink if that video adds any value or if it answers the question you are promising to answer.
After all is done, ask yourself if you delivered what the reader was expecting? You may need to change the title. Think in terms of what people are searching for. Maybe make the title into a question, such as "Is Global Awakening Happening in Cyberspace?"
And remove that cat! You never mention it anyway and you never relate it to the subject you are discussing.
The cat is mine and keeps walking over my keyboard because she wants the attention. I added her because there are a lot of cat lovers out there, so I will keep her. Yes I will make the title a question and move the images next to the section. I thought it was very clear to me what the images reflect. Cat's all over the world do not and will NEVER be slaves to any system! That is what she represents! Thanks anyway for your comments Glenn
A couple of things need clarification as per your reply.
There has been a lot of discussion in the various forums about the importance of writing for the reader and not for yourself. When you find yourself making statements that you will keep your cat in the images because she wants the attention, you need to take a step back and ask yourself what you are up to? What do you want to convey in your hub?
I can understand your idea that your cat represents the notion of never being a slave to the system, but you never ever made a single reference to that remark in your hub. That's the point I was making when I tried to help you.
If you want to keep your cat in the images, all the more power to you — but you need to talk about it. Make it "make sense" to the confused reader. Even cat lovers WILL be confused because they see no reference to your cat. I hope I am making myself clear. Just trying to help. I am not judging your cat.
The other thing I need to clarify is that I did not say to put the images next to the sections. I meant that you need to verify that you placed them in the proper position so that they fall into the correct place when merged into a single column. You can verify that with the mobile preview in the hubtool.
HubPages will eventually be getting rid of the two-column format. That's why they require new hubs to be written with a single column in order to have a better chance to be moved to niche sites. Many editors are already making those changes to our hubs. This is called "mobile friendliness" — read up on that, because it's a game changer. Google ranks on that now.
You are making an interesting point about advertising Glenn. I now see that my image theme, and Google's adds can be a hindrance for readers! Now I get it! I personally do like writing hub articles and create the 3 images that they require because I enjoy the feedback that blog articles do not often get, but the advertising is again a sigh of our times. After I posted my last chapter on The Self Employed housewife I received a Facebook message from a reader asking me when they can order my 2nd ebook because they dislike reading the story with all the adds. I must admit that I hate to read anything while adds are blocking or interrupting my train of thought. Reading an article on a cell phone I find almost impossible due to all the annoying advertising.
I've taken a lot out of the article and instead posted it on my blog so readers can read about the five stages ( without adds)
If the article is not featured after all the changes (or due to my digital art) I will take it down and post it on my blogs. Maybe writing articles for hubpages is not for me anymore due to them needing to follow Google's demands to post more adverts all over. I do not write a hub so I can earn around one $ each month but thanks for the clarifications!
I suppose the question is, what DO you write on HubPages for? Not trying to drive you away, by any means! However, HubPages primary purpose is (and always has been) as a place to make money from writing.
Once upon a time, in spite of that primary mission, writers were able to use HubPages for a variety of other purposes - networking, self-promotion, learning to write, just for fun etc. At one time, HP was able to accommodate all those people, even if they weren't actively contributing to their coffers.
Things have changed now. HubPages relies on Google for its traffic. In the old days, Google would pick the best articles from HubPages and ignore the amateurs, the learners etc. Nowadays, Google's standards have changed. They expect every single article on a site to be good - if even ONE article fails their checks, they downgrade the entire site.
So you can see why HubPages has set standards and guidelines, and why they are so fussy about them. i do question some of their rules - but because Google is constantly updating their standards, HubPages is trying to future-proof the site by going beyond what's required today.
Anyway, sorry for the long explanation - but I hope it illustrates that if you are on HP primarily to promote your books or blog, it may not be worthwhile or practical any longer. HubPages is a nice place to network with other writers but the active community is quite small.
Many thanks Marisa for your comments. I see now that my writing with hubpages might soon come to an end with all the Google pressures. I joined for the reasons that you mentioned: networking, self-promotion, learning to write, just for fun etc . I will now and then log in my hub pages account to read and comment on members posts from my computer where I can blog the adds. I will finish posting the chapters of my second novel, because of the followings, but I will probably post my articles on any of my 5 blogs in future.
If you don't want to accept the requirements to be successful with Google, your article won't do well anywhere you put it.
Have you examined your Google Analytics on that hub? You may find you have a lot of people clicking away within a few seconds without even getting started. As Google continues to see that happening, they will send less and less traffic to your hub. That's why HubPages needs to hide it from Google, otherwise a thing like that will negatively affect the entire site and hurt all of us.
The problem you're creating is that people came to your hub based on the title or some other content that matched their query. Then when they see a cat, they leave. They didn't come there to see anything about a cat.
Don't tell me about cat lovers. If you want cat lovers (as you said in an earlier comment) then write a hub about cats, but this hub is not about cats. I really don't understand why you're so adamant about placing a cat in all the images on your hub when the subject is about something totally different.
If you place that same type of content mix on your blog, or anywhere on the web, it will eventually not get traffic from Google just the same as it's not featured by HubPages. But that's your choice.
Thanks Glenn I'm far more a visual person than a writer ( being dyslectic) so I will remove the post and do what I already wrote in my comment to Marisa.
People are visual. They will be distracted by the cat pictures. Certainly if you write a piece about cats, they will be relevant. However, if you want your piece published, sorry, not going to happen. Your pictures have to be relevant to your piece. Your choice.
Again thanks for your comment I will remove the post and post it on my blog where there are no adverts!

I've checked the learning center and unless I've missed it can't find the information to enlarge the image of an amazon product. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I need help getting this hub to qualify for Spinditty. It was suggested I seek help on this forum. There are issues with title/subtitle capitalization, spelling/grammar, and the Amazon product. I think I've fixed everything, but I can't be sure. We did buy this drum set for my grandson and the hub...

Hi all!I had a Amazon product link removed because apparently it didn't meet the necessary requirements. The link went out to the book I have used as a reference in the article and have paraphrased the authors' statements. Doesn't this imply that I have personally used this book? I own this book...

Why do you think the hub with the highest score was scored higher than your others? Interested to know.

Hi Hubbers,I'd like some help with passing the Quality Assessment Process. Will you please give feedback on my Hub Could life exist beyond our planet? (must be signed in to view). What can I do to improve? Thanks!

And why can't I add any Amazon capsules? If they're not allowed, then why are they even an option? The word count doesn't seem to matter because I can have over 2,000 words but have to remove them all before the hubs will become featured again. Either way, I like the color and...
