Hello everyone!  I always forget how the first few days of schools literally knocks me out.  I am EXHAUSTED!  29 kiddos and counting.  We shall see where the numbers end up.  Some classes are up to 35 already, yikes!

Klara, how cool that you will be going to Spain next year!  My mom and I traveled through Europe right after I graduated from college.  We had a very loose plan and pretty much rode the train to the places we wanted to and stay in youth hostels.  We were supposed to go to Spain because that has always been on Mom's list of places to visit.  Unfortunately there was a rail strike in France at the time so when we were heading that way from Italy, the train stopped at the French border and made everyone get off.  We were 'stranded' on the Italian Riviera.  It was quite an experience!  Since we had to catch our plane back to the US, we had to put Spain on the 'next time' list.  sad

wow, it sounds like you had quite a trip.  sorry, you didn't get a chance to see spain, as i've heard it's a very beautiful country out there.  you should probably write a hub on some of your travel experiences, as i bet a lot of people would love to read them. smile

Morning all. Our rivers are over the banks again. There is now over 40,000 homes destroyed from flood waters sinse Hurricane Irene we don't need more rain. All major highways at a dead stop like a parking lot. Atthe shore inda said the sun is bright and skies clear. Where I am at work they have had almost 7-8 inches of rain sinse last night

    Hi everyone,

Wow, I feel I've been gone for weeks instead of just a week.  sad  I know I've missed a lot.

Sofs: how are you?  Hugs to you!

Klara: SPAIN!!! How cool is that.  Take me, take me...lol    I see that Cara has explained all of that in her previous note.

Hi Cara XXXOOO  Miss you.  Get that whip a cracking early on those kids!

Beth-I feel your exhaustion about being on the run...

Marky-OMG  I think you have it worse than some of us here in NC that were hit.  My roof leaks now with any rain that falls hard (and it has been raining a lot) But, the flood waters have receded.  I'm glad to know that your little beach house is safe.  Lucky Linda getting laid off!  I want to be a beach bum, lol

Take care all and I will be checking in from time to time.

Hey-my 5K is this Saturday morning!  I jogged 35 min. nonstop yesterday.  It was my longest time yet.

Denise it is soooonice to hear from you. I have missed you my dear. Sorry to hear abut your roof. need to get that fixed so that it doesn't damage your sheetrock on the ceiling.
If I live closer I would fix it up for you. I think we should all be beach bums like linda. I typed to her on facebook and she said she had to go because the Sapronos were on LOL Must be nice lol

@ Denise -- smile  It's so wonderful to see you!!  How goes the new job?  Are you still on nights?  It's been crazy at ours.  Increased patients -- full capacity before 0800h every day.  Absolutely crazy!!!  I'm running without touching the ground!  That's aweful that your roof is leaking.  sad  I won't have to worry about any rain soon -- the temperature is already falling!  Leaves are turning color and falling off the trees.  Fall is here which means winter is going to begin soon .... can I come down and spend the next few months with you?  At least there won't be snow and blizzards.... lol

@ Mark -- hope you had a good sleep last night.  smile  I didn't sleep much.  The local radio station decided to pop into our neighborhood around 10:30pm and shoot off fireworks.  Yup.  What a shock!  They were at the school grounds, which is only two streets away.  I could see the fireworks, hear them hissing up and all that wonderful smoke drifted my way.  And, our poor dog -- he went nuts!!!

@ Card -- those first few weeks of school are exhausting!!  for both the teacher, parents and the children.  My are so tired after school that they ask to go to bed before dinner!!!  ha ha  35 in a class is crazy!  How could you possible manage all of them?!?  I have trouble with my basic 5 and when their friends arrive -- I give up!  I hope you have assistants to help you!  It's Friday tomorrow -- enjoy the day and your well earned weekend!

@ Klara -- Spain -- such a beautiful country!  I'm thinking about saving for the next two years to take  me and my daughter for her high school graduation present.  Either that or a cruise to Bahamas.  smile  Not sure which yet.  The only problem is that I would have to do the same for my 4 sons.... that can add up!!  lol

@ Sophs -- hey pretty lady!!  Where are you?  I haven't heard from you for a while.  What's new?!?

@ Steven -- did you start your classes this week too?  Remember, you have to write my review (just kidding)!  lol  I should talk -- I have about a dozen outstanding requests.  lol  Sooner or later, we will get to them.  xo

@ Mark -- almost forgot:  XOXO  smile

am I missing anyone?!?  my brain is not functioning too well....  lol

    catch y'all later!

Hello Beth, All good here except for our capital Trenton is under water again second time in a week. The main roads were all just parking lots 4 lanes wide. thank God I move from the Delaware River before all these floods. I lived one block away from the river.  All were I work were closed roads, collape roads and MAJOR FLOODS and this is only the beginning of Hurricane Season sadsad this has never happened like this before that I can remember.

Have a great rest of the day and night my dear. Wasn't it great to hear dronm our Denise? Maybe when the snow arrives for you and I here we should go and stay with Denise or soak up some rays in South Beach with Klara. We should ask if we can stay with therm lol

Hi all-so good to be back in touch...just missing everyone by a few hours time.

To Marky and Beth: by all means you are welcome here in NC...although, in the winter we are so close to VA that we get snow and cold too.

I will get the landlord to get those shingles replaced.  It's a pain in the bucket when it rains now, lol

    Miss everyone...

Oh, Beth-I will be on midnight (or evenings rather since it is a 12 hr shift from 7 pm to 7:30 am) for an indefinite time period-at least 6 months (probation period).

I hate to say it but your exhaustion is exhausting!  What are we doing to ourselves run, run, running like this?  I hope that we can all remember to slow down and find balance in our lives.

Marky has a sobriety anniversary coming up soon...four more weeks!  smile

I never had a pet until she bought mason, Now I have grown to love him as a member of the family smilesmilesmile BTW as you see he love to swim in the pool, but now he swims in the Bay.lol

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, and remember to wave those American flags tomorrow. I'm buying mine today. I hope they still have them!

Well Denise, I did go to settlement the day after hurricane Irene and the house was fine. We were evacuated from the shore so I rode out the storm in my other house. Basement was dry but a couple of homes close by had all their carpets out to the curb.  Linda is down there now at a wedding and she rode by our old house that I just sold last week and every house on the BLOCKS had all there carpets from the basement out on the curb. This was the storm that hammered NJ (LEE) The road at the Capital Building is still under water and I must drive 15 extra miles to get to work. The Captial Of NJ sits on the Delaware River.

Are you all rested up, because I think Beth, Linda and I will be stopping by to see you and then head down to see our Klara lol

Hey Denise, classes are doing better... I have to bribe them to get them to listen and do what I want. big_smile These kids are not ready to learn music and art. I'm sorry to have to say this but they have other needs and other worries that keep them from being able to focus. And any art form requires a lot of self control and discipline. In my opinion, they need to have other special areas, like a cooking class, a health class, etc. They need to learn how to prepare themselves a meal even at this early age, because sometimes the free breakfast and lunch they get in school is all they eat. hmm

I'm good.  Can't decide to sell or rent out the house.  hmm  I'm the only one left here.... stuck packing up everything and still working....  I'm thinking I'll just rent a large DUMP bin and throw everything out!!!

I've taken 5 loads to the donation site plus another 4 to consignment shops.  Worse part -- I'm only about 1/4 way done.  hmm

That's too bad you missed the races.  sad  I went to the sailing club last weekend for a bit -- missed the races too!  lol  but, had a good time with my son and daughter. They're underage to drink, so the barkeep pulled a fast one on my son.  he ordered a caesar and he was served  a caesar -- no alcohol ( smile ) and with about 1/2 c. of tabasco in it.  Little did he know, I asked the barkeep to make sure that the drink turned him off of drinking.  lol  I think it worked.  smile

Gonna head out for a walk with my dog before the skies let loose again.  Either that or I'll be attacked by spiders.  I have no idea where they and the flies are coming from.  I have never seen so many flies in my house and never so many spiders outside. Maybe the flies are trying to save themselves from being eaten?!?

    Oh yea,  XOXOXO  smile

Hey Beth, I know exactly what you are talking about. i had rented a dumpster, 2 uhaul trucks at different time. Hired a man and his two sons to get rid of all metels screws etc which took them 2 full days and many truck loads. I had all my parents things that were in the house from 55 years of marriage and all mine and linda stuff from 30 years of marriage. I will never save anything.

My dad always said "if you have to look at something twice you do not need it".
The problem was that he didn't listen to himself about that, I live simple now Beth and everything is gone, or donated , clothes Linda has and never used or out grew, about 75 hand bags lol 100 pair of shoes AND I said to her why do you need all of this stuff.? you only have 2 shoulders  and two feet lol

She did give sop much to donations here at the shore. No more collecting stuff or saving any more. It feels so good to just have what we used and no more clutter.
get a dumpster and start throwing like I did.

  17. Beth100 profile image68

this is the second time in two years that I'm throwing everything out.  I'm not the one that collects things... except sentimental things.  Some of the things I can't replace, and really don't want to throw out.

Everytime I toss something out, someone else replaces it with two more things.  Before I know it, the house is stuffed to the rafters.  sad  I'm tired of doing this.  Storage is so bleeping expensive... as is my time.

Part of the problem is that we have moved so often and so much that my children have developed a "hold onto" attitude -- always afraid that if we move AGAIN, they will lose it in the move or, that it's "things" that they can't let go of.

I've gone ahead and empty out another room today.  If they saw what I threw out, I'm afraid they would throw ME out!!!

kinda scary with the dumpster though.  People come in the middle of the night and root through it.  My dog goes nuts.  I don't mind them taking the stuff, as long as they don't leave a mess.  The scary part was that they tried to open the front door, the back door, the garage door and banged on the windows.  This is when I freaked!!!  I'm not sure if I want the dumpster back again.  hmm

I'm taking bags out to the dumpster at the school....  after all, my taxes are paying for it.  lol

Thanks for listening.  smile  I feel like such a heel for throwing things out.  sad

Beth first thanksfor your comment. I replied to your comment. Secondly, yes i really felt bad throwing out my parents things. I did look through everything before throwing away. The problem is that my dad even saved all the electric bills that he paid years and years of them. that I didn't mind throwing out but finding bithday cards and things like that  that were writen from my mom to my dad and even me and my sister as well. Many things I had to let go. I knmow they realize I just can't hold on to things like that. I have all my dads US Army duffle bags, Parachute, uniform etc. I had to rent a storage [place for things like that and all our stuff too. There is now room where I live now, No basement no garage which is a good thing because i would just clutter it up again.

You are welcome.  Thank you for your comments -- you always remind me how fortunate I am.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to let some of the sentimental things go.  A number of years back, I went through a lot of my "old" stuff.  It was difficult, but I even threw out photos of myself, family, friends.  I kept only a handful and now, I'd rather not toss those things.  I have a lot of handmade things from my kids.  My worse fear is losing one of them.... that's why I keep all their keepsake-type things.  hmm  I actually don't own much material things, except for bins.  Bins full of artwork, crafts and so on.  I don't know how I will extract the throw-aways from the keep forevers.

I have also kept all the items that my mom sewed, knitted, crocheted for me and the kids.  She's very ill and each year, her health declines.  It use to be by the  years, but now, it feels like months.  My dad is elderly too, and his health is not as good as it use to be.  I'm hanging on, but I know why.

I know.  I know.  Live in the present, and not in the past and not in the future.  So easy to remember those words, but so hard to practice at times. Those words echo in my head....  The Serenity Prayer echos in my head too...

Gotta go... work begins another week and it's gonna be another whirlwind.  (I have to sing in front of the hospital staff on Thursday night.  Thank goodness it's not solo, but two of the men won't sing -- they just mouth the words -- and the other female is great but she's soprano and I'm a very deep alto  -- not well matched)  I'm not looking forward to this.....

Thanks for listening and letting me spew.  And for your support and advice.  I appreciate it very much.

    Good night, xoxo

I'm doing okay.  Just a bit under the weather today that's all, but I'm doing okay now.  I appreciate you asking. To answer your question, I did start taking a few online classes earlier a few weeks ago, and I have another one that I have to attend in person starting next week.  Sorry, I didn't answer you sooner, as i barely noticed it scrolling back through some of the comments just now.  lol Anyway, thanks for the hugs and kisses, as it always means a lot coming from you. wink  How are things going with yourself though?  I hope work is going okay, and I'm glad to hear you got a chance to spend time with your family recently, as I know you probably missed them a lot. smile  As for Contagion, I'll definitely be sure to check it out soon.  Anyway, I hope to see you again, as it's always a pleasure bumping into you. smile  xoxoxo

    What's wrong?

I'm running around without my head on these days.  There's too much on my plate and no one to pass it onto.  I'm in the middle of moving house, keeping it from being broke into (so I'm staying here on my own with my dogs), working crazy hours and preparing a retirement party for one of our Directors who is now retiring (who's replacement has not been found... so I'm filling in a lot of the holes so things don't fall through the cracks).  Not only am I organizing this event, I have a shit load of CEOs coming from different districts to attend the event.  I just found out yesterday that I have to sing with four others in front of the whole party!!!!!  I haven't performed on stage for over 20 years!!!  Two nights to learn the lyrics, music and choreography.... like, what are they thinking of?!?

So, I haven't been writing much.  sad  I have about 100 topics that I've written down, but trying to find the time is next to impossible.

Other than my life whirling around my head, I take the odd break by watching a movie.  lol  Contagion is not the best show out there at the moment.  I've seen better and there are a few that spread the fear much better than this one.  (sorry for the pun)  lol  But, I am alway a germaphobe, so this only underscores my fears.  lol

Anyhow, gotta run.  Drop me an email if you wanna talk.  smile  xox

@Beth-thanks for the congrats.  It was an accomplishment.  As for work: I am ALWAYS night shift 7 p to 7:30 a.m.   sad   Not happy about it but it is do-able for now.

I've been cooking up a storm today...getting ready to leave for work and that takes me away from the house for several days in a row.

Made an awesome Thai Shrimp soup for lunch; then a meatloaf for dinner and a lemon meringue pie.  It was my first L.M.pie ever.  It tasted wonderful, but it did not set and so I had to scoop the servings in a bowl and serve it with spoons instead of forks!

Yes, little Powwow is part American Eskimo and part American Gray Wolf. I'm embarrassed to say she's part wolf because she doesn't look like a wolf, in any case she has more of a resemblance with the Artic Fox, but that's besides the point! lol I knew her mother, a house-trained wolf named Teal, and her American Eskimo dad by the name of Russell (named after Russell Means, the Indian who was convicted for shooting FBI agents although there was no real evidence against him). Yeah, I got Powwow from a Native American friend of mine, a retired cop who had an accident while on duty, chasing a car, and got an early retirement, a few months in comma and a good amount of money from the accident. She was able to buy a huge home in West Palm Beach where she went to live with her four kids, two retired K9's, her two American Eskies, four cats, and then she adopted two horses and the gray wolf, Teal.
I named my dog Powwow because when I went to check out the litter my friend was playing Powwow music on her CD player and the puppies were dancing on two feet. Too cute! My dog was the only one that came out all white. All her brothers and sisters had the mother's gray line starting between the eyes and going all the way back to the tail. She's been with me for almost twelve years and I love her to death! She's extremely spoiled! big_smile

Hi Everyone!  I feel like it's been forever since I have been in the sandpit.  School has been insane for me.  I have 29 kids, 18 are boys and about 60% are reading at a 2nd grade level (or lower).  Did I mention that I teach fourth grade?  AAAHHHH!!!!  On top of it, I have kids with MAJOR behavior problems.  By the sixth day of school I've had three fights and money stolen from another child.  And I have a student that is showing classic autism signs and has not yet been diagnosed.  Tell me how this child can get to fourth grade and not have had any intervention yet?  Can we all say, this is going to be a LONG year!!!  Hope everyone is doing better than I am.  This is the first night that I've been home before 6 and I've been passes out with exhaustion by 9.  Hopefully it will get better.  sad

I feel your pain, Cara. I had two second graders get into a Jerry Springer Show kind of fist fight... two girls, they scratched each other's faces, pulled their hair-weaves and got all bruised up. I tried to stop the two of them and couldn't get in the middle of the fight because they were beating each other up so badly I knew I would get hurt too. This is every day at my school, not just in my class but everywhere. I'm usually good with classroom management but this is beyond human capabilities. Some of these kids behave like animals, and administration does nothing about it. They're not afraid of anything and that's scary!
How long have you been teaching? This is my ninth year and I feel like a new teacher all over again. Nothing works. Not even bribery and that's usually my last resource! hmm
I heard in the country station today that they did a study to see the level of education of each city and Miami came last! sad LAST!!! Can you believe it?! But I know exactly why that is... they sit at a round table to try to figure out who are the stupidist people in the district, and then they elect that person for promotion! big_smile Don't you love it?!

OMG!  I felt like I was reading my life.  It is the same exact thing here too.  I have been teaching for 13 years.  This year feels like one of my first.  You are right, they are not afraid of anything.  Our administration is the same way.  I don't see things getting any better either.  I don't know what the answer is but I can't see myself doing this for the next  years!  Good luck to you, and me too I guess.  Let's hope we come out of this alive!  big_smile

Oh wow! Well, we're just going to have to find a nice gig. I've thought about moving to a smaller city or a town here in Florida, just to have a bit more control over location. But the truth is you never know what you're going to get until you're there!
Just take deep breaths, Cara... that's all we can do!

@Beth-no chance for rotation.  I think I will have to go back to school to finish my last decade of work doing something besides floor nursing and off shifts!

@Sofs-5K went well and I am trying to write a hub about it but there is so much to keep up with between living in 2 different places and monitoring my nephews homework and medical appt's.  sad    Never any time left over to write.

i have to go to my realtor's 50 Birthday party at 7pm where I used to live. It seems like I am forever heading back to my old home area, whether it be for work or something else like parties. I will as you know be the only one NOT drinking. I can watch and see those that are drinking and remember how I used to act lol it should be interesting.

Much love to you Denise and rest up k

Denise it is so nice to hear from you. Yep, I just turned in my resume and app to the brand new Holiday Inn 2 miles from my house. I have always wanted to work in a Hotel since I was young and now maybe I have a chance. Of course much less money but to be around HAPPY people on vacation and walking up right LOL. I need a job change before I am too old to change. 2 mile drive seems fair to me lol and a lot less pay, but you can't have everything right?

No rest this w/e Sofs...I will be working on the weekends in order to be home during the week to help my nephew with homework etc.   He is in the 11th grade in the local High School and did not want to start over in a new school in Greenville where I work.  But, it sure would have made my life much more easy to deal with.   Oh well...

Yes I know you are getting ready for night . sleepy bsmilesmile yes our Summers are too short. Our Spring is no longer it goes from snow in our 6 months of winter and then no spring and goes to 100 degrees skipping spring altogether.  Our seasons are really messed up.

That is true.. seasons are messed up.. we haven't been having as much rain as we should .. It was so hot today ... but i guess it might rain because of the humidity smile Oh I am getting very sleepy .. so goodnite and have a great day smile

    klarawieckposted 13 years ago

Sofs and Mark - Our summers last forever. We might get a month of mild winter and a couple of days in the 40's, mainly at night but 50's in the daytime. I'm buying a Fall door decor or something to celebrate Autumn but it's kind of stupid. Our Fall is very green and warm. hmm But it doens't rain as much as in Summer and it's not as humid so we get a very clear, cloudless, blue sky. You can still go to the beach in October and sometimes even in November. The water is not as warm as it is now, but then again, the Europeans seem to love our beaches in January and February. hmm Figures!

@ Denise -- so wonderful to see you!!!  smile  Too bad about rotations!  But, I hear you loud and clear....  I'm going to gather the courage up and approach my IT VP.  Time for a change -- and back into my original line of work!!!  I miss high tech and this shift stuff is for the birds (sorry, no disrespect... it's tiring me out and I'm just feeling old and cranky!!)  have a good week this week, and hope you can get lots of rest during the day.  smile

@ Mark -- first, xox!!  smile  I've been so exhausted this weekend, this is the first time on for me.  I had wanted to write a hub but can't see the screen before my eyes!! And, I'm having trouble typing with my fingers -- all the keys seem to be in the wrong places!!!  lol

@ Linda -- hello!!!!  So wonderful to see you here!!!  Funny, how we all end up in this thread!!!  smile  How was your weekend?  Did you get to sunbath along the beach?  No sunbathing here -- it's getting colder here by the minute!  Finally caved in, and turned the heat on yesterday!!!  Winter is only a short breath away!

@ Sophs -- I guess you're it again for the week!  lol  Hope you're having a lovely weekend!!

@ Klara -- please!!! Send the heat and sun up this way!!!  I'm starting to grow fur to keep myself warm .... wait.... that didn't come out the right way!!!  lol  The fall coat is out... the heavy socks are out... the light mittens are out too!!  Oh, how I wish I lived in Texas again!!!

@ Steven -- bring me back to Texas!!!  smile  I need some sunshine!! I'm shivering in my boots!! (but, I should put on some clothes, right?)

Okay, enough of my whining of it being cold here!!!  I probably could have written a rant hub on the weather up here!!  lol

How are y'all doing?  How was your weekends?

@ mark -- good luck with your application!!  I hope you get the posting you're applying for!  Money is not everything -- your happiness and safety are the most important things (and family, and love....)  smile  Keep us posted!!!
