StumbleUpon Question

   I had been uploading my hubs to StumbleUpon until the past week or so when it would no longer work - I would be taken to the site, fill everything out, press click - then it would vanish and nothing showed up on my personal page there.
   
   Sooo... I emailed StumbleUpon and asked them what was up.  They said that you cannot have multiple posting from a single source, and that I should use this service instead:
   
   http://www.stumbleupon.com/ads/
   
   Anyone else encounter this?  Do people use the ad service?

      Yes, I have encountered it, and no I don't use the ad service.  I now have 2 stumbleupon accounts.  I use both to stumble and participate, but my new account to promote only those pages I really want to promote.  I've become way more selective in other words.  No problems yet with account 2.

   Stumbleupon's terms and conditions actually prohibit self-promotion.  You're supposed to Stumble stuff you like, not spruik your own stuff!  That's why you encountered a block.

      I agree - and that's right.  Just like on Digg, I had spent time stumbling others' stuff.  I can't believe they blocked me after 2 weeks, and not that many hubs put up on the platform.

   It may not have been just what you were doing, but other HubPages users of StumbleUpon as well in the recent weeks that made them decide upon a block.

   I believe Ive posted all my hubs to stumble and never had that problem... I hope stumble hasn't changed anything.

   They haven't changed their terms and conditions - they were always there, just not all that easy to find.  I've known several people on Helium who had the same problem, ages ago.

   We strongly suggest using all of the social bookmarking sites carefully.
   
   Reddit had banned us for over a year because of overzealous spamming of the service. I contacted them and they removed the ban but said they'd re-ban us if they saw users spamming their service again.

   So, like StumbleUpon or any other social bookmarking site, if you submit a disproportionate number of entries from one domain, they'll soon realize you're trying to spam them.
   
   Can't blame them. We don't like it when uses consistently link to the same domain in their Hubs, too.

      Ok - thank you.  Just learning the ropes.  It makes sense.  I'll read reddit's guide for some other ideas too.  Thanks for helping me out...

   I recommend a go slowly approach. Change things up. Duck and weave. A little here a little there.
   
   If you fall into a pattern it's easy for their filters to flag it.

   This is why it's a good idea to get a bunch of "friends", or join "groups" or whatever they choose to call them on any of these these sites. Find people with a common interest.
   
   You can look at what they bookmark, and if you think it's worth it bookmark it, too.
   
   I like that better than just randomly bookmarking things that are popular, or something.
   
   I also bookmark things from a range of sites that are related to my topic of interest, and places where I am mentioned on other people's blogs and websites, not just my own pages.
   
   I did get tossed off Newsvine, though - apparently Hubs and blog posts don't qualify as "news". Shrug. I might start a new account there once day, and only seed press releases and articles to it, if I can be bothered.
