I have been experiencing a steady drop over the past month. Views have dropped by over 50%. Has there been a Google update and is anyone else experiencing the same?

Wiil, since when and how much have the views dropped?

A month or so Paul announced that there was a technical problem that caused ALL of the previously unfeatured  hubs on the site to be visible on search engines.  Just about all writers lost huge amounts of views.  He stated that the team fixed the problem, but that it would take Google about 60 days to "catch up" with re indexing the hubs.  So far, I have seen continual and significant drops in my views, as have many here.  ALL of my RV articles are on the niche sites and most of my Dreamworker hubs are as well, but views are abysmal.  The only thing saving me is that CPMs have more than doubled...which means my income is still good.  When this all happened I figured that January would be the time when we see views coming back...but we're still in December.  However, if most of your hubs are still on the HP site, you need to get busy and upgrade them so that they can be moved to the niche sites...otherwise, views will never be good for those hubs.  I'm going to look at one of them and give you some advice and will be back shortly with that info.

OK... I looked at your Soy milk recipe and here is what I think:

It's WAY too short.  You need at least 1000 words.
It needs instructional photos. Using just one photo is not enough, especially when you show the same photo at the beginning and the end...readers need to "see" the steps you take to make this milk.

Also, you need to caption your photos.

You didn't talk much about health benefits but linked to an article about this topic.  Either discuss it and link or drop the link.

Add a video that shows how to make this drink, and add a poll at the end.

Recipes are difficult and time consuming to properly present, but if you want them on the niche sites, you'll have to do these things with all of them.

        Good luck.

Time Traveller thank you for taking out time to watch the soya milk recipe and offer your insights. I'll try my best to incorporate them. Thank you.

You're welcome.  You've been writing here a long time, but as you know, much has changed over the years.  I've noticed in my older articles that even though all of them are on the niche sites, many need improvement.  It's important to consistently update because there is always going to be increasing competition, and this can seriously affect views.  Good luck.

I notice that too. When the niche sites were new, the administration moved a large percentage of my articles. But now when I think I "fixed" all of them, sometimes I put one in the 6 we can showcase, and realize it needs a huge edit.

        "niche sites..."

TT2 speaks truth, I'll expand on that... smile

If HP won't move your hub to a niche site, move it elsewhere.

I thought it was just me. At one time I was overjoyed with the traffic my articles were receiving. Then, about two months ago all of a sudden traffic dropped. I expected traffic to return to normal after some time, but it never did. Now, traffic is steadily declining. I am now at the same traffic views as I was when I first started here. I have been here for at least 7 years now. It is a little discouraging, but I plan to hang in there as long as possible.

I just looked at your profile page and noticed you have over half of your articles still on HP main site. I cannot be sure, since the only thing I have to go on is what people mention in the forums, but I think hubs still on HP´s main site have lost more traffic than those on the niche sites.
Are you submitting them to be moved to a niche site? I just read an article you wrote on mangosteen, and it has a lot of Amazon capsules so will take some editing before submitting, but the improved traffic is definitely worth the effort.
(You may not be seeing that much improvement in your articles that were moved to delishably. I am not sure how that site is performing, but articles like mangosteen, jambo, etc could be submitted to a site like owlcation since they provide many excellent facts about the fruits.)

Thank you, DrMark, for your observations and suggestions. Though hub pages staff is moving my articles to their network sites, it is taking a bit of a time. I will try and submit other articles after doing the necessary edits.
Thank you once again for your support.

Considering my article topics, both here and elsewhere, I always ignore December stats. In other words, I have zero expectations and basically don't care. Now January is a totally different story... smile

My traffic has always been okay barring the time Google makes an update. Then it takes a few weeks to return to normal. This time I had no idea if there had been a fresh update which was causing this as there was no mention of this in the forums. Thank you.

Mine went up for about a week, yesterday way down to where it was a couple of weeks ago, then today about low average. Though CPM's are up from where they were so earnings seem slightly higher.  Will likely hit payout amount several days early this month and am not worried about hitting it like I was the past few months.  All in all, with holidays coming up I'm hoping this bodes well for even better numbers, CPM's and earnings.  Now if I could only figure out how to leverage Amazon ads . . . Though my topics don't really lend themselves to ads for anything other than books.  Oh well. . . plodding on.  Happy Sunday everyone!
