   I love HubPages. I would love to succeed here and make a good amount of income, as mentioned in the front page. I, too -- like the HubPages pro users -- would love to earn $70000 within the next few years, to buy myself a ram 1500 limited pickup truck, etc.
   
   But how do we do that? I basically write poetry. Can poetry earn me that kind of a sum?

      Sorry, no.  Just as in the real world, poetry does not earn online.

         Take a look at a web page with the top 10 poets, or top 20, or top 30. They are all dead.
         I think in the real world poetry does not earn offline either.

      Haven't looked at the HP front page for years, but find it hard to believe that they are telling people they can earn 70,000.  If there are people earning that much, there cannot be many of them.  Most people here earn far less..and not by writing poetry.  Good luck with that.

         I think he was being honest about this when he started the thread and named it! The OP knows he will never gain that much but is just trying to get comments from people who do write poetry.

   I believe poetry has the same chance of earning money as the stream of consciousness ramblings about the state of politics in Kashmir that appear here from time to time. Which is to say none.

      Didnt you write a famous poem about rutabagas? I only remember the first line: Rutabagas are white, violets are blue
      I think there was something about beets being red, but do not remember for sure.

   Dr. Mark. No there was nothing about beets, which are also ghastly vegetables with which I had a very unfortunate reverse peristalsis encounter when I was four. My mother never did get the stain out of the carpet.
   
   However, here is a little rutabaga ditty worthy, I think, of consideration by the Pulitzer people:
   
   Rutabagas are white, violets are blue
   The Bohemian root tastes like glue
   Mask the horror by inserting in stew
   But it’s still going to be the most horrible goo

      I still say that mashed swede with lots of butter and pepper is delicious! Brilliant as a mashed potato topping alternative for those of us keeping the old carbs down.

            LOL Yes, I suppose it would.
            
            My granny always called them turnips, but those are smaller. I have no idea why people in the UK call them swedes. It has nothing to do with Sweden, afaik. Those Americans call them rutabagas, which is far too grand for such a humble vegetable.

      Looking online, I think sweed is a type of fig Sue.
      Swede is what we call it in the UK.
