Have you also noticed that Hubpages is paying less per view? Even though my views have increased, the pay per view seems to have lowered. Even with less views I was paid more than right now. What’s happening?

Hubpages pays for impressions (when ads are seen) rather than views. You get about 0.6 impressions per view on average, irrespective of the number of ads per article that a reader sees. You may be getting less views for articles that were more lucrative in terms of the ads shown on them. The CPM as I understand it is an average figure, calculated for the previous day. So lets say you get 10 times more views, rising from 1000 per day to 10,000 per day. The article that generated those views may only pay a pittance for ads. So when the CPM is calculated, the earnings per impression is much less, since earnings divided by the large number of extra views.

Eugene is right. It's not quite as simple as it might appear, as all impressions are not equal, some are more valuable than others.

Things that affect the value include:

*How valuable the advertisers see the topic/keywords
*The source of the traffic, Google.com earns more than social media
*I believe that the geographical location can affect the value too. A reader in North America is seen as more valuable to advertisers than, say, southeast Asia.

The CPM can get skewed by an increase or decrease in impressions that are either high or low in value because the CPM figure is essentially a mean average.

Oh yes right, that might be the cause. However, it is getting worse nonetheless.
