did you ever find traffic sources show up and you wondered "how the heck did I get linked THERE???

I have done negligible promotion and seriously, my largest traffic source is HP, and google is 4th... below facebook.  Out of not quite 3200, only 224 is from Google.   Obviously, google searches are NOT bringing me traffic, so I'm wondering how the heck people find my stuff.

I have found links and even whole page reposts (attributed to me) on well known sites... including famous blogger sites and now even a national radio talk show.   And I still don't know how they found me.

What's going on and how do I improve it?

(maybe that's the question of the day?)

    Weholdthesetruths,

I'm unsure of your knowledge of Google, so I gather that you do have your Adsense account setup, since you did say you did earn something.

However, I do not know if you connected your Google Adsense account to Google Analytics.

You would have had to open a Google Analytics account, using your Google Adsense account. If you haven't entered in your Google Analytics account information in your affiliate section, then you will not be able to get detailed information about your traffic and will only be able to visit the hubs themselves to get information about your traffic.

The traffic statistics on each hub isn't a complete breakdown of your traffic from all sources like Google Analytics happens to be.

    I hope that helps. smile

Okay, if you know nothing about Google Analytics, then learning would be good, however, if you do not already have it setup to monitor your pages(hubs), then where the traffic is coming from, will not be found out, until Google Analytics has a chance to accumulate information for those who do come to your hubs.

It will gather information about any and all traffic, after you set it up, but will not tell you anything until you do or previously had.

        Sorry. hmm

Ok, so I have signed up for and have analytics now active.

Is what I'm going to see there, uhh... going to be obvious in telling me how people found me or just some more clues or ??

In any case, I'm still baffled about how some of my stuff has been found.

I have a hub with almost no views, and suddenly, it had a bunch the last few days and...  It's featured on a national talk show's "featured writer" page.  GAHK!   Scary.

Okay, you signed up for and it's active. That means that you entered your Google Analytics affiliate ID in your affiliate section on Hubpages?

I don't want to assume that you did something, so please bare with me. If you've done that, then it will take Google Analytics a couple of days to track and trace your traffic.

As I said in my other post, it will not tell you about previous traffic, just the new traffic coming.

You will have a main dashboard on Google Analytics that gives you different styles and form of reports, all based on your traffic, keywords used to find your hubs and many other things.

I would advise you learn your way around Google Analytics, so you can get comfortable with using it. I'm not entirely comfortable with it yet and I've been using it for almost 1 year.

Oh, yeah.  All done.   Code inserted, etc, etc.

I'll check in on it in a week or two and see what I can make of it.

To increase your traffic from Google?

I'm not sure I could explain it in enough detail to be helpful without getting confusing.

There are plenty of Hubs by Sunforged to go through. Not to mention, looking up keywords optimization for SEO value.

There are a variety of different things that can be done and I'm not knowledgeable about all of it. So, I do hope someone else can help you. smile

no no no, I wasn't asking about SEO.   I am sure that these people did NOT find me through Google.   I just want to figure out the heck they did.

certain phrases, titles, subjects of my pages show up, some on the 1st page on Google.

The more other sites link to a page, the higher it rates, too, or so it seems.
