Blocking a follower

   There is a woman on my followers whom I believe is trying to steal my stories. I posted a story about a young couple saying goodbye at the bus station and shortly after she posted an extremely similar hub. She and I went to high school together and she's known for stealing my story ideas. Short of deleting my account because of her....how do I get rid of her? I'm not her follower but she is still mine. Can I delete her? Block her? HELP?!

      Unfortunately you may not be able to block a flower or delete.. you could only report people who plagiarize or harass.. If you consider her story as plagiarism you could very well report her ..

         There's no direct plagarism involved but the phrasing and the stopryline....its so similar. My characteres are saying a tearful goodbye at a bus station, the guy calls the girl babygirl, she is relectant to go. Her characters are saying a tearful goodbye at a train station, her male character calls the female character babygirl, the female character is relunctant to go. She's smart enough to change it jsut enough that I can;t really give solid proof. But she;s done it all our lives.

            Leah, I am not sure, that you could do much in this case.. but do check if there are many such instances and maybe you could still alert the staff.. ..  Let us hope someone with more knowledge in this area would come along and guide you in the right direction.

   Actually, copying someone's phrasing and storyline too closely is plagiarism.

   I flagged her profile and reported what I was suspicious about...hopefully hubpages does something so she won't rip off anyone else.

      I don't quite know what to believe. You currently have no published hubs and your author score seems to have taken a hit. Have you had hubs unpublished by moderators, and if so for what reason?

   If you know her personally why not talk to her or email her, and tell her what your problem with her is and explain why its upsetting you?

      because we do not tlak to each other. I know her personally but havent spoken to her since september and have no way of contacting her as I dont have nay of her information. And she;d simply deny it

   That's the thing about posting any content on the internet. Anyone, anywhere who can access a search engine can usually view your content.
   
   The only 100% way to protect your content is not to put it online.

      and the whole purpose of hubpages is to get your writing out there and be heard and possibly be "discovered" its still plagarism and still illegal whether its online or in my head.

         True. But it's also one of the things you have to expect if you publish online.
         
         I have a few articles with good keywords which have been copied and spun so many times it's just not worth spending that amount of time reporting them all when there will be 5 more next week.

   I also wonder how the other person even knew about Leah's account to follow her in the first place.  Is she a stalker?
   
   Contacting HubPages staff is a good idea; should she file a DMCA report? (that is, if the original Hubs are in cache)
   
   Long-term, it might work to open another HP account that would be more anonymous than this one.  New accounts are opened every day, and a lot of us never hear about many or most of them.  So, unless the follower actually is stalking in some way, she would probably not know about the new account.
   
   EDIT:  Oops - Leah seems to have disappeared.

   Well, this is embarrassing.
   What's the etiquette on continuing posting to a forum thread in which the OP is no longer part of HP?
