For example, would medieval artwork of scantily clad women, or professionally artistic nudes be classified as mature content, unable to be showcased on Hubpages?
Yes, they will be. However, you can disable the ads on those Hubs and then I think they can be published.
The problem is with Google, they do not allow ads to be shown on such articles as in many countries, they will still be considered adult.
This is what I have found:
Mature content includes graphic violent or medical images, videos, or text, and the excessive use of profanity. All hubs must be suitable for a general audience. If you are unsure if your mature themed Hub is ok, please contact us for clarification before publishing your Hub.
They must have changed the rules as I read in the rules last year that 'Fine Art Nudity' was prohibited too. (Crazy I know, since when was the human body in an art form something to be ashamed of?)
Edit: Yes it looks like they have amended the rules as it also used to refer directly to 'Hand Bras' as not being allowed as well. Now it just states the following:
"Nudity and lewd, obscene, or provocative images (including strategically covered nudity, see-through or sheer clothing, and close-ups of breasts, butts, or crotches)"
Mature content? What is classified as mature content?
So it isn't content written by Old People then?
Yep, I think anything depicting nudity would set off the automatic filters. I remember writing up a hub on Homo erectus, and inserting some pictures of naked ape men and that set them off, so I unpublished and deleted it.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I was wanting to do a hub on some artistic photography, but it's hard to find non-nude ones of the subject I'm talking about Oh well, that's fine!

I have one art tutorial which was fine on Squidoo for 3+ years, but I'm wondering if it will be acceptable on HubPages because it features classical painting artistic nudity. It is a tutorial based around reproducing an old master painting, by Titian, talking about the grisaille technique. The...

Should Hubpages have a seperate website for Adult/mature content? Many authors here have written poetry, short stories, or hubs with mature humor that have been flagged and unpublished. I think HP should have another site where we can publish these hubs. Thoughts?

Ok I am at my end! I seem to be having an issue with HP. Everytime I flag something I end up getting flagged. Yesterday I published my 2nd part in a 3 part series on Jeffrey Dahmer. Ads were taken and I was fine with that considering he killed people, even though I see plenty of serial killer hubs...

What causes ads to be disabled due to automatic content filters?I am writing a hub on the Booty Pop... it is a sarcastic review. I am still working on it but I got the message that the ads have been disabled? It is a review for an actual product but would the word Booty cause the article to be...

For adult content? Really? There is no nudity at all in that Hub. I respectfully request that the restriction be lifted. All the images were found on the web in spite of strict filters being imposed upon my search. There is nothing in that hub that anyone couldn't see on a magazine rack in the...

Do I have to delete my Nymphomaniac hub review because of adult/Mature content?I've done a review of the film 'Nymphomaniac', obviously an adult film, with themes and issues of a sexual nature. I was mindful not to be too blatant when writing, but when I got the warning for adult/mature...
