FreshStart7: About Me
Who is FreshStart7?
"Knowledge of the self is the mother of all knowledge. So it is incumbent on me to know myself, to know it completely, to know its minutiae, its characteristics, its subtleties, and its very atoms (Khalil Gibran)."
I am a financial professional from a tiny island in the Caribbean called Grenada. It's actually a tri-island state comprising three (3) islands - Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Grenada is nicknamed the "Spice Isle" because of its production or growth of many spices, including nutmeg, clove and cinnamon. Grenada has a land mass of 344 square kilometres (133 square miles), an estimated population of 110,000 persons and its mainstay is Agriculture and Tourism.
I define myself by much more than my profession. So I'll share with you nine (9) of my loves (interests) in order to help you put together the pieces of who FreshStart7 is and get an 'almost' complete picture of me. I say 'almost' because you can't really get to know a person unless you've spent significant quality time with them and had meaningful interaction and communication. So I'll do my best using three (3) principal tools:
- Famous Quotes
- that encapsulate how I feel about each of my loves (interests).
- 2. A small
- summary write-up in each section
- that expands on the quotes.
- 3. My
- featured Squidoo lens
- , which speak to each of my loves (interests).
My No. 1 Love
GOD & SPIRITUALITY
"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else (C. S. Lewis)."
I am a Christian and my personal relationship with God has seen me through good, bad, sad and happy times. God has blessed me with good parents who instilled good Christian values in me as a child and taught me, by example, the value of hard work.
God has shown me mercy, continuously provided for me, blessed many of my undertakings and protected me from danger and harm. He has guided me toward and placed in my path wonderful people for a specific reason or a particular season. God has also blessed me with wonderful friends, some of whom have been around for what seems like a lifetime.
It's God's constancy I love most! What I mean by God's 'constancy' is that, whatever my circumstance - good, bad, in plenty, with little, sad, happy, depressed - I always have that assurance, deep down in my heart, that God is watching over me, that I am loved by Him, unconditionally, and that all things will work together for my good.
God has blessed me with many talents, some of which I will share within this lens. I have also been blessed with 40+ years of great health, opportunities to travel and educate myself and a mentally creative ability.
I respect all religions because I believe that we are all on a journey and that our respective spiritual journeys will be different. My advice to everyone is to take whatever spiritual journey brings you peace, just as long as it leads you to God and becoming one with Him.
To GOD be ALL the GLORY, HONOUR and PRAISE!!!

My No. 2 Love
“He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe).”
I am a Caribbean person at heart and so no matter how far I have travelled - I have been as far as Japan - or where I have lived, I have always longed to return home.
I love the sight and sound of the sea, the bleating of sheep, the mooing of cows, the barking of dogs, the sound of the wind in the trees, the sound of birds calling and singing and the fact that we have no winter - just rainy season and dry season.
I love the "colourfulness" of Caribbean people - the music, the rhythm, the dialect, the rich and seasoned foods, the laid back living, the "simpleness" of Caribbean life. I love the neighbourliness that still exists. You can't starve in the Caribbean. Someone always has something to share with a neighbour or friend.
Yes! I am a Caribbean Woman through and through - "to the bone".
Be sure to take this ESSENTIAL along on your Caribbean vacation.Don't let an insect bite ruin your vacation and skin.

My No. 3 Love
MUSIC, SINGING & DANCING
- “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain (Bob Marley).”
- “Singing becomes a form of therapy (Placido Domingo).”
- “I just love dancing (Usain Bolt).”
I say it best when I say, "I love music and its two (2) derivatives, singing and dancing."
My love for music ranges from soothing Classical Music to soulful Rhythm & Blues to pulsing Soca, Calypso and Reggae Music to erotic Latin Music.
I LOVE dancing! It is an expression so powerful for me that I have no other words to explain it. I feel music and its very essence as I dance. I am often lost in the rhythms and sounds. It still amazes me. It's the only time I am not shy.
I love singing. I sing early in the morning for my daily devotion to God. By singing I get to pray twice, as the old adage states, and I get to give God of my best. I love singing in church and I sang as a Second Soprano in my Secondary School choir for five (5) years and have belonged to a few other choirs in adulthood - singing religious, folk, contemporary and classical music.
I love watching movies also. Mostly comedy, romance, drama series, detective movies & Kung Fu.
YES!!! I LOVE Movies Too! - Why Not Try These? I really think you'd love them too...
My No. 4 Love
GOOD FOOD & COOKING
"Cooking allows you to have travels, adventures and journeys without going anywhere (Ted Allen)."
I love trying new recipes from all around the world and making them my own by adding or subtracting various flavours, ingredients, seasonings and techniques.
While planning meals and cooking, I also pay attention to making my meals nutritious and colourful. So I employ cooking techniques that maintain as much of the nutrients in my food as possible. One of those very useful techniques is steaming instead of boiling, whenever possible. I also like to change up the flavours, so one day I might cook Chinese, another day Caribbean, another day Indian, and another day some combination of these.
I don't like spending hours in the kitchen, so I am always coming up with or looking for ways to make delicious, nutritious, appetizing and colourful meals in the fastest time possible. I guess that comes from me being an "efficient" person. That is, get it done in the shortest possible time in the best possible way.
What you'll love about this book is that it contains great, delicious and manageable recipes from a regular person like most of us.Don't take this lightly though, because Deb Perelman's recipes can make you look like a big time Chef. Her recipes are so good that she won the 'IACP Julia Child First Book Award' and her book has been named one of Cooking Light magazine’s 'Top 100 Cookbooks of the last 25 Years'.
SPORTS & FITNESS
"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity (John F. Kennedy)."
Daily exercise is important for me, because I like looking and feeling physically fit and toned. Added to that I always experience a boost in energy when I exercise in the mornings. I have to admit though, that some weeks are better than others in keeping up my daily routine.
I don’t have any fancy exercise equipment and I have never belonged to a gym but I stay in great shape with my 20 minute exercise routine and playing tennis. That is how I keep fit.
My favourite board games are Scrabble and Monopoly and while waiting, passing time or just to relax, you’ll find me solving Suduko puzzles.
In the area of Sports, I am particularly proud of the achievements of the Caribbean athletes at the London 2012 Olympics, since they won the highest number of Olympics medals the Caribbean has ever won in history – 18 Olympic medals.
My No. 6 Love
READING & CHOCOLATE
"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library" (Jane Austen, Pride & Prejudice).
"Chocolate is the first luxury. It has so many things wrapped up in it: Deliciousness in the moment, childhood memories, and that grin-inducing feeling of getting a reward for being good" (Mariska Hargitay).
We all have that one (1) thing we indulge in. For me, that's chocolate!
I love any kind of chocolate - sweet, milk, dark, semi-sweet, white. I just take care not to over indulge and that's easy because I love looking fit and feeling toned.
Strangely though, the only place I don't like chocolate is in ice-cream. Everything else is fine: chocolate bars, cakes, fudge, biscuits, pastries, clairs, sweets, drinks. I love them all!
I have always loved reading. From my childhood to this very day! It is what expanded my imagination, allowed me to dream and took me to exotic and distant places long before I could afford a vacation.
As I grow older, reading has allowed me to metamorphose into a better me through understanding of the Holy Bible and self-development books.
I am always reading, I can never have too many books and I take care of my books. So if, like my sister, you damage 1 book of mine, then you’re forever BANNED from my collection.
My No. 7 Love
GARDENING & CRAFT
"Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace (May Sarton)."
As a child, I used to help my Dad shell peas, break clove, pick cocoa and pick up nutmegs.
As an adult, I love doing a bit of my own vegetable gardening. I grow lettuce, carrots, beet, cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumbers. I love growing my own seasonings too: seasoning and bell peppers, chive, thyme, rosemary, peppermint, celery.
I get a really good feeling from being able to pick my seasonings from my very own backyard while I am cooking.
Growing your own vegetables was never easier with this book.Everything you need to know is right in here!Start your own vegetable garden right now, save on your food bill and feed your body fresh vegetables without harmful chemicals and GMO modification.
TOTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS
"There are six components of wellness: proper weight and diet, proper exercise, breaking the smoking habit, control of alcohol, stress management and periodic exams (Kenneth H. Cooper)."
I strive for total health and wellness by taking daily care of my mental, physical, spiritual and emotional health. I believe that simultaneous care of all four (4) areas has helped me lead a balanced life, free from major illnesses.
I have experienced different life stressors like everyone else but I believe that everyone, no matter their age, can achieve total health and well-being by following this balance. It just takes daily discipline.
My No. 9 Love
“If a writer knows enough about what he is writing about, he may omit things that he knows. The dignity of movement of an iceberg is due to only one ninth of it being above water (Ernest Hemingway).”
I have always loved reading and writing, even as a child, and this interest has not waned in adulthood. I try to read as wide as possible. That way I arm myself with knowledge that I can cross transfer in any and every area of my life. I never think that I have too much information. These days, my main reading interests, however, focus on spirituality, self-improvement and health and wellness.
I found Squidoo while looking for ways to earn online income during one of the most financially depressing years of my life. I fell in love with the Squidoo idea, since it allowed me to express myself through a natural offshoot of my reading - writing. So I thought to myself, "Why not try this and earn money doing something I love."
I have met some wonderful people on Squidoo and learned a lot about numerous other niches through other people's expert lens on varied topics. I hope to be a member of the Squidoo community for a long time to come.
"Where is the good in goodbye?" (anonymous).” So I won't say goodbye, just "See you around on Squidoo!"
