I like to delve into the history, costuming, foods, and customs of places and holidays. World cultures and traditions are fascinating.

Weird and Wacky Holidays

Celebrating special days and having fun with the decorating, cooking, and customs of holidays give people an excuse to throw a party, or at least wear a button or send a card.

Not every celebration is strange to us, even if we don't observe them. I like learning about other cultures, and I don't expect to participate in each one, just as I don't imagine everyone in the world is interested in my most important ones like "Christmas", "Thanksgiving", and "Easter".

We all like to celebrate special days and observe traditions, with the foods and d├ęcor that sets the day aside from others in the year. Whether it is turkey at Thanksgiving or a chocolate dessert for Valentine's Day , and Easter Egg tree in the spring, or Red,White, and Blue bunting in July, there are holidays all through the year.

Here is a collection of my Holiday pages for your enjoyment. Some you may have heard of, some are known to very few...

Years ago we started an unusual way of marking Advent, the Advent log. It burns with a candle for each day of the season, and has added spiritual depth to our Christmas traditions.

Why Should We Celebrate?

A few quotable reminders

"Celebrate the little things in life, appreciate tomorrow, love your neighbor or don't, but never condemn yourself to a life without cause to celebrate and be thankful for what you have. Never forget the people you love and love them when you have an occasion to do so. Celebrate their life and celebrate yours. "

"Can I celebrate the things like a 4th of July Parade, Fireworks in the sky and a hometown celebration on Independence Day? You bet I can, as long as there is freedom in America, there is freedom to celebrate."

"There are always flowers for those who want to see them" -Henri Matisse

Making It Memorable

Let Your Parade Shine On

Creating good memories is an important part of life and one of the greatest gifts you can give your children. Holidays are a crucial way to do that, and a way to pass on your family values, and history.

Every people group has its holidays, every nation and religion has theirs. They mark our seasons, and underline our heritage. Celebrations spice up our lives.

And I like lots of spice.

How to make a special day memorable? Just as many of the pages illustrate: with crafts, special foods, decorations, and rituals.
