Find out who MarcoG is...

Updated on November 13, 2014

A Lensography to discover who MarcoG really is

Hi, I'm Marc.

I've been on Squidoo since back in 2008.

I create lens about anything. I don't have a niche. I just create and publish about what's on my mind. One day it's theatre, the next it's Yankee Candles.

I decided to put together all my lenses in one place. In this lensography. And share a little more about me, as I go.

Enjoy.

Music

MarcoG likes Pop Music

I love Music. All kinds. I especially like Pop Music the most. There's something really cool about an upbeat, funky tune, couple with a hard hitting, sometimes melancholic lyric. I find that juxtaposition really exciting. A lot of the most famous pop songs, are actually quite sad in content, yet disguised with a happy melody (don't leave me this way, too many broken hearts, I should be so lucky, unbreak my heart). Here are some of my lenses about some of my favourite musical icons.

Theatre

Theatre

One of my greatest passions is theatre. I've been lucky enough to work on three professional theatrical productions. One which toured the south of the England, and two which were West End shows in the heart of Theatreland. It's a very exciting world to be in, but it is a lot of hard work, let me tell you. Long days and late nights. It's especially daunting, knowing that your job is dependant on ticket sales - so they show had better be a good one, if you are working on it. Here are some of my favourite shows, that I've turned into lenses:

Keeping Fit

I like to keep fit. I regularly go to the gym, or fitness classes - that was until I got a terrible bout of Sciatica. The single most painful experience in my life - it's exhausting, because you spend so much time in pain. Luckily, I'm over the worst of it. Sadly, it meant that I couldn't exercise that much, as I had to drop all activity that involved contact on hard ground, to reduce the inflamation around my sciatic nerve. Now, I'm able to train, but still have to take it easy, so I don't over do it and cause damage. Here are some lenses about sports, my experience of Sciatica and keeping fit:

Diary of a Sciatica Sufferer
Sciatica can be a pain in the bum! Literally! I've been suffering with Sciatica for just over 6 months now. I have my good days and my bad days. Luckily, mor...

Business

Some people might say I'm a jack-of-all-trades. I don't think I am. I've worked in lots of different industries. At one point when I was at school at had 5 jobs. Before I went to university, I juggled 3 jobs. I like to be busy. I work in the corporate world, and the arts world. It's an interesting mix and gives me lots of variety so no day is the same as the next.

Inspiration

I love reading, writing and painting. I studied Art at university and have exhibited my work nationally and internationally. I can't bare the thought of not working and living in a creative environment. I often refer to art, poetry and literature to inspire me. This is my little collection of things that inspire me, and how I take inspiration from the arts.

Reviews

I like writing. I write a lot of reviews, and have fleshed some out to turn into lenses. I was blown away when I saw the film "A Single Man", so had to write about it. Also, as a massive Harry Potter fan, I felt compelled to contribute something Potter related. As for Rihanna and Gaga, well, they are huge characters on the music scene, so very much deserving of a lens methinks

Harry Potter

Harry Potter

Ok, I confess...I'm a Harry Potter geek. I love them. When I finished A-levels, I spent the first year of my year out working in a book store, Waterstones (like Barnes and Noble in the states). This was just after book3, when we could only sell after 3:45pm, so kids wouldn't skyve off school to get it (how AWESOME is it that kids were going to bunk school, to read a book, I mean...that in itself is amazing, never mind the books)...we were also amongst the first to hold a Midnight Pyjama party for the release of book4 - the local press thought we were nuts...but it was fantastic! If you haven't read them, I advise you not to be cynical and give them a go, and keep reading until you get to the twist in book3 and then you won't be able to put them down!

...Lastly, I love America

I've spent a lot of time in the states. I worked in upstate New York for a summer in 2001, then ended up living in Ohio back in 2008 for about 9 months in all before coming back to the UK. When I was growing up, an American couple lived over the road from me, who worked on the American Airbase at Greenham Common. They were called Debbie and Dan, and were a lovely couple. They took us onto the base regularly. Although it was only 5 miles up the road, it was like setting foot in America. I was always the cool kid at school who had Dr.Pepper and Mountain Dew (you couldn't buy it in the UK at that point). They also took us "Trick or Treating" every Halloween. In the late 80s, Trick or Treating was pretty much non existent in the UK - it usually meant someone would throw eggs at your door if you didn't answer the door. The airbase (well, America) had such a different way of embracing it. It was so much fun. One of the highlights of our year. When we got home, my sister and I would spend what seemed like hours, pawing over our candy and wondering what each one was and what it tasted like. It was then I first fell in the love with the Tootsie Roll (again, wasn't and still isn't available in the UK, unless through import). Ahhhh...America does and always will hold a very special place in my heart.

Excellent lensography. America is definitely different to the UK, as I founf out having lived there for 15 years. Not sure which I like best though, since I both like and dislike many things from both. If only I could live 6 months in each every year.
