Meaning

The name Maureen is Irish/Celtic/Gaelic and is a derivative of Mary. It is pronounced Mor-Een. Maureen means "bitterness of the sea" and if often associated with the terms "dark".; and "bitter" (but I am not bitter).

The name Maureen has a number of variations: Maurine, Maurene, Moreen, Morine, Mairin, Maire, Maura and Moreena. Common nicknames are Moe (my personal favorite) and Mo.

This lens is dedicated to the Maureens of the world, famous and waiting to be discovered. The one thing I have learned while creating this lens is that Maureens are creative women. Enjoy your stay.

Sing Along with Maureen - Lyrics

I pick her up outside the station

She's telling me about her spring vacation

She's not leaving much to the imagination

She's giving me way too much information

Maureen

You don't know what you do to me

I know you won't be true to me

The least that you can do for me

Is keep it to yourself

I'm so sorry I don't mean to shout

It's just that I can do without

The details of your days and nights and your thoughts and dreams

Maureen, Maureen, Maureen, Maureen, Maureen

Do you know what I mean

Do you know what I mean

Do you know what I mean

She calls me up at ten past midnight

'Cause she and some guy just had some big fight

And I say "well maybe he's just not all that bright"

She tells me it's not his brain that she likes

M-M-M-M-Maureen

You don't know what you do to me

I know you won't be true to me

The least that you can do for me

Is keep it to yourself

I'm so sorry I don't mean to shout

But really I can do without

The details of your days and nights and your thoughts and dreams

Maureen, Maureen, Maureen, Maureen

I know you think I'm just a friend

But can we please just put an end

To all the graphic imagery that you insist on feeding me

I can't accept I'm not the one

Who's getting to have all the fun

Maybe that's what friends are for

But I just can't take it any more

M-M-M-M-Maureen

You don't know what you do to me

I know you won't be true to me

The least that you can do for me

Is keep it to yourself

I'm so sorry I don't mean to shout

But really I can do without

The details of your days and nights and your thoughts and dreams

Can we keep it right

Can we keep it clean

Sade Sings about Maureen

In 1985 Sade released a song about Maureen on her album Promise. Here are the lyrics:

Maureen

It's hard to explain

I'm never going to see you again

And you'll never meet my new friends

Maureen, I miss you

I just can't explain

I'm never going to see you again

I wish you could meet my new friends

Walking along the subway listening to

Loving you is easy a capella

You were a souped-up car in that rent-a-go-kart town

And I miss you, Maureen

We're as thick as thieves

Maureen Maureen

Remember when my mother said to me

Sade don't you come home to late

Till you're back I stay awake

And Maureen

With the boys you could tell at a glance

You'd say he looks good

Let'd hope he can dance

Wicky wacky party to the..

Where are we going tonight

And what will you be wearing

Shone like a souped-up car in that rent-a-go-kart town

And I miss you Maureen, I miss you girl

You were my best friend

I'm never going to see you again, Maureen

And you'll never meet my new friends

You really were a pearl in my world, Maureen

Maureen

It's hard to explain

You'll never call round to see me again

You'll never meet my new friends

Never meet my new friends

Never meet my new friends

Never meet my new friends

@anonymous: Just did a quick check on one of the name pronunciation sites and they definitely have Maureen as "Mor". Incidentally, they have Laura as "LAW-ra".

Are you sure the name is pronounced Mor Een rather than Maur (pronounced like Laur in Laura) een with the accent on the first syllable.

@anonymous: Actually Maureen, if you had followed back THAT particular conversation you would have seen it all started with one mouse cursor running off with another's mouse cursor and the cursor being called a Hussy, not an actual person. So, no Maureen's were called Hussy. No actual live people were called Hussy either so no people slamming occurred. Bitter yes, definitely, when people leave comments like this without checking the facts. Thanks for stopping by.

I checked this out seemed very nice until the very first tweet from a Big Girl Blue @LMAshton called a Maureen Hussy. I'm sure this isn't what you set up this website for. She obviously has nothing else to do but slam other people. Such bitter people in this world, well Big Girl Blue hope you find the help you need! Have a blessed day!

I am related to a Maureen - she is my sister-in-law and the granddaughter of true Irish. Her nickname is Maudie. I had no idea the meaning of "Maureen" was so sombre.
