My Quest for Tier One

Updated on September 15, 2012

And How You Can Help Me Get There

The goal of this lens is really very simple, I want to reach my goal of getting 5 top tier lenses, and I want to share my progress with others who have the same goal. Hopefully, this will lay out all the things needed to be a top lensmaster, and help newbies like myself to compete in the growing world of squidoo. So join me on my journey, help me along, and I will do my best to help you along with me!

What Is Tier One Anyway?

The first tier if squidoo lenses is any lens with an average lensrank of 2000 or less. This is a good thing because it means getting more traffic, a higher percentage of the ad pool, as well as making you feel really good about yourself!

Why Write About It?

There are few reason to make a lens about my goal, the first being that it is a way for me to keep it fresh in my mind. I have all the information I have accumulated right here, I can see my own progress very clearly, and it gives me a reason to keep going. The second is obviously for networking purposes. How am I going to achieve my goal if nobody knows about my lenses? I don't want to be the only successful person here, I want to help other people be successful to, and by sharing my progress and allowing other people to share their experiences, everybody benefits.

These Are the Lenses I Want In the Top Tier

How Can I Help?

There a lot of ways that you can help. The first is visit one! Give it a like, share it with your friends, tweet it, pin it, and comment to let me know what you think! Do you want one of the products promoted on my lens? Buy it from that lens instead of the store, many times it will even be cheaper and more convenient for you. These are all things that you can do even if you are not part of Squidoo.

If you are a part of Squidoo, there is even more that you can do. You can feature a relevant lens on one of your lenses, and I would be happy to return the favor, you can nominate one of these lenses for Lens Of The Day, and if you are a SquidAngel, you can Bless my Lens.

My Progress So Far

Average Lensrank for Winnie the Pooh: Nostalgia at its Best

April 2012: 55,112

May 2012: 100,805

June 2012: 57,524

July 2012: 108,166

August 2012: 88,777

September 2012: I'll let you know at the end of September!

This lens fluctuates a lot, all I can say is that there is a lot of competition on this topic, and its like swimming through pudding trying to get to the top. I am going to keep trying though!

Average Lensrank for 100 Foods to Try Before you Die

May 2012: 88,952

June 2012: 81,490

July 2012: 64,946

August 2012: 107,469

September 2012: I'll let you know at the end of September!

I am happy with this lens, the increase is very encouraging, and it seems to be a topic that people like to talk about.

-Thought: asking a question in the comments section seem to increase the number of comments.

Average Lesrank for Art by Alexandra Sutherland

May 2012: 156,551

June 2012: 84,033

July 2012: 81,753

August 2012: 151,809

September 2012: I'll let you know at the end of September!

I am encouraged by this lens, the progress is slow, but it is showing a steady increase in lensrank and traffic.

Average Lensrank for D&D: Oldschool or Epic?

February 2012: 58,954

March 2012: 144,595

April 2012: 40,971

May 2012: 53,236

June 2012: 81,901

July 2012: 106,225

August 2012: 123,648

September 2012: I'll let you know at the end of September!

This lens started off really strong, and seems to be getting lost. I have yet to find the problem, I have been updating it and promoting it, but I think the biggest problem is that there is too much competition on Google for this topic.

Average Lensrank for Comfort Food: A Great Chicken Recipe

May 2012: 200,722

June 2012: 131,117

July 2012: 175,838

August 2012: 241,936

September 2012: I'll let you know at the end of September!

This one is a fairly wintery lens, so I'm hoping it will start to do better when the season changes.

Note:

For reasons beyond my control, I have been away from the internet on and off for some time. This seems to seriously affect my lensrank and traffic. I am trying to get all of my lenses to a point where they draw traffic on their own, but I am not there yet!

I Wish I had Discovered This Earlier!

The Squidoo forum does wonders for your lensrank, for a few different reasons. First, it allows you to promote your lenses as soon as you publish them to people who really want to see them, which in turn gives it a great start in the lensrank. Second its a great place to talk to people who also make lenses, and find out what works for them and what they think could work for you, and this in turn makes our lenses better! (if you listen to them)

Actually I still don't understand what is Tier 1. I'm still new here in Squidoo and I'm just focusing on making a lens.

I just try my best to create quality lenses. It is important to find a good/popular niche.

I tend to focus more on updating my lenses with new products rather than the tiers.

My top lens dances around 19,000-22,000. It would definitely be fun to get a tier 1!

I had one in first tier and I cannot maintain very long up there, So I'll follow Julie advice to study them to see what I am not doing right.

I have a couple in tier 2 this is a easier range to handle and keep.

      Hey Alex.

I still don't have any tier 1 lens, but I share your desire to have some very soon!

Good luck with that and I hope to see us both with amazing lenses on tier 1!

I usually have 3 in the top tier, but it varies. Recently there have been a LOT of fluctuations in the tiers and I think more people are adding great lenses, so it will keep all of us on our toes!

Well, I would recommend studying the top tier lenses of those who have 39-40 lenses in that upper tier. I believe you will find three different lensmasters with different techniques for keeping their lenses up there.

I have had a few in Tier 1, but it's hard to keep them there.
