Who Am I?

I'm Tim Bader and I have been playing video games since I was about 10, when I got my first ever computer, a Sinclair ZX Spectrum...

I have played games on various platforms, including Commodore 64, Atari ST and Atari Jaguar (for those who remember them) through to PC, Xbox, and Xbox 360.

I enjoy all kinds of games, not just the popular first person shooters, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but everything from "platformers", to "hack and slash", to kids games and strategy games.

I enjoy seeking out those games that are slightly different to the rest, are quirky, or which merge different genres together.

More recently I have begun reviewing games on Squidoo (see the links on the right - yes, there's a bit of a pattern there), so when the opportunity to become the Video Game Rockstar Contributor came up, I jumped at the chance!

Who Are You?

I hope that you are as excited about video games as I am, because I want you to contribute too.

Over the coming days, we'll be issuing challenges of all kinds, so get ready with your virtual pens as there will be lots of opportunities to share your unique take on things with the world.

In order to do that, I'd really appreciate it if you could take part in some surveys so I can get an idea of what kind of gamer crowd we have here on Squidoo.

To start things off, lets find out what kind of gamer you are and which platform you use for most of your gaming.

Are you a hardcore, can't wait to get home from work/school, live for games, kind of guy/gal, or are you more of a casual, pick a game up when you fancy it, but could just as easily read a book or watch a movie?

Or maybe you're just a gamer dad (or mum), who only really plays games with the kids?

Let me know by placing your vote below.

Take The Survey Here!

What kind of gamer are you?

See results

Survey part 2

For part 2 of our survey, let us know where you spend most of your gaming time.

If you only own a Playstation, then that's easy, but if you own a Playstation and an Xbox, then you may find it more difficult.

Don't think about it too much, just pick the one that you spend the most time on.

If this varies from day to day, or you just can't decide, then just tell us which one you are using right now.

Platform Poll

What platform do you do most of your gaming on?

Quests, etc

This section is where I'll start posting new quests and links to games content you may be interested in.

Eventually, I hope that this area will move out to its own page, but for the moment, here is a link to your first challenge:

Review Cut Price Video Games

We've had some great articles for our first quest.

Have a look at these examples:

Little Big Planet 2 Review

Gears Of War 3 Review

Sly Cooper Thieves In Time Review

The Last Of Us Review

And my own Modern Warfare 3 Review

Keep those reviews rolling in!

Review Your Games Hardware

You've reviewed some games, next we'll have a look at the hardware you run them on.

This month, I want to know about your killer game setup.

Maybe you have just bought a Playstation 4, or a super duper graphics card for your PC.

Or maybe, you have a gamer chair or an amazing set of surround sound headphones.

Whatever it is, I want you to share it with the world by writing a review.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, then join me over there to Review Your Games Hardware!

Video Game Review Guidelines

Believe it or not, video games can be a sensitive subject.

They can be addictive, some people think that video games rot your mind (although the opposite is usually true) and there are game forums around the web full of 'trolls' who like nothing better than to wind up others or start 'flame wars'.

My aim with the Video Game niche is to encourage gamers and non-gamers alike to participate in gaming on Squidoo.

Whether folks are writing reviews, reading them, or taking part in surveys, we want everyone to enjoy being here.

With that in mind, I want to lay down some ground rules for video game niche reviews and comments.

This isn't a 'heavy', really it's just my interpretation of the Squidoo Terms of Service for this specific niche.

  • Make sure that you are reviewing the correct game version for the platform you play games on - i.e. If you have the PC version of the game, then use that version from Amazon in your review.
  • Remember to point out any benefits specific to your version. For example, if your Playstation version of the game has extra bonus levels then mention them.
  • Please refrain from negative or unsubstantiated comments about one hardware system or another (e.g. "Playstation sucks"). Squidoo is a positive platform and we don't want to incite arguments in the comments.
  • Keep it 'clean'. There may be children or young adults reading your review.
  • Check your spelling and grammar before you publish (video games sites and forums are notorious for being bad at these) - having good spelling is a sign that you are professional and worth reading.

Beyond that - have fun!

      @favored: Thank you.

I wouldn't say lame - Solitaire and other games certainly have their place and I still enjoy "offline" board games too!

      Thanks for reading.

I can see you were a good choice for this topic. As for me, I know very little about any of these or gaming these days. Only play a few on the computer like Solitaire or Bubbletown. Lame right? Having no kids leaves room for lots of other things.

@TanoCalvenoa: Ah yes, Tetris was responsible for many a lost hour or three for so many people, including me.

And I'm pretty sure I played on of the Mortal Kombat games too - I'm not a fighting game man really, but that one was a classic.

      Thanks for dropping by.

Although I've played video games to a small extent in recent years with my kids, such as on a Nintendo Wii, I've mostly not played any since I was 14 years old (20 years ago). I used to play my old weird-color Gameboy and Sega Genesis for probably two hours ever day when I was junior high age. My favorite games were Tetris and Mortal Kombat.

@DreyaB: Hi Dreya, nice to meet you.

One of things I like these days is that anyone can be a gamer, male or female, young or old, and from any walk of life.

Thanks for pointing out your review, it's great and well written - well done!

I'll see if I can find a spot where I can feature it.

Love video games and like the idea of all this. I'm a (female!) PC gamer really but also own Wii and DS for different reasons. Don't know if this helps you at all, but you're welcome to use it if it does:

      @SheGetsCreative: Thank you - I'm sure I will!

I've not played those games, although I have heard of Castleville by name.

Would you like to write a review of either of them?

    • Adventuretravels profile image

I have to be brutally honest - I steer away from games because I have an addictive nature and I too busy to play them! Maybe when I retire! lol!

Congrats - a popular niche I'm sure you'll have fun with! Right now the only thing I play is Word with Friends occasionally and Castleville Legends (because I can play them on my Nook while I work on the laptop...)

I'll be sure to give online gaming some attention too.

      Thanks for leaving a comment.

I have a really difficult time selecting video games for myself. I am far from truly experienced and always look for easy games that I can play while relaxing. I would love some recommendations for beginners. I have kind of grown tired of the find-it games, but I am definitely not ready for games that I will get killed in, in less than 3 minutes :)

The Elder Scrolls games have been getting better and better over time, so 'online' will be a good one to look out for.

It sounds like it could be an exciting year for PC games and games all round!
