As simple as it may sound, it's really tough to write about yourself - have it be comprehensive, and yet not end up with just a list, organized and yet, have it be more than a list of labels, and be interesting and be more than just a bunch of cliches.
It's like when someone asks you, "Where do you come from?" Do you start with "God" or do you start with the state in which you last lived? Either way, it's gonna be a long answer.
The question is, how interesting will the answer be?
Oh, you mean, it's NOT all about ME?

I love life & being optimistic about life. But, I tend to be serious and feed off the laughter of others. And, did I mention that I'm a recovering-competitive-perfectionist?
I'm passionate about being a Mom, a Wife, a Divorce Lawyer, and about my hobbies - quilting, gardening & cooking (though not necessarily at the same time). I also love Scrabble and reading, but don't do too much of either these days. Lately, I've rekindled my love and enjoyment of swimming. And, of course, there's my love of volunteering, teaching and helping children.
And when I get passionate about something, I get focused and move like a freight train. My husband said the other day, "If Theresa gets an idea about something, you might as well just get out of the way."
My Favorite Books
I couldn't possibly commit to a Top 5, in order, of my lifetime favorite books, without further changes. So, here are 5 Great Ones that I really love and that have really impacted my life. (There are probably 50 more, but we'll start here.)
The Bible. Pick a version. I wasn't raised on reading the Bible (because I was Catholic). But I started reading it in college, and now I read more and more of it. I still haven't read it all, but I'm learning about more and more interpretations of the stories and the history in it. It represents the foundation of my life. As Joel Osteen says, "This is my Bible. I am what it says I am, I have what it says I have, I can do what it says I can do." Thus, I am relieved of looking to others for that definition - what a wonderous revelation!
Well, really, the "Grand Inquisitor Chapter." It changed how I looked at the world.
I read this about 10 years ago. I'm an optimist. So, life doesn't get me down too easily. But, I'm also a divorce lawyer, so, I have alot of clients who are facing big challenges. What does this book do for me? It reminds me of how often I am responsible for keeping myself stuck where I'm at. And, even better, it gives me a model of how to get going to where I want to be!

My Other Favorite Charities
I also love these other great charities (that don't yet have Squidoo charity status - but I'll get to work on that next!):
Operation Christmas Child - a part of Samaritan's Purse - Wow! What a wonderful organization - Give a shoebox of small items to a needy 3rd world child and make a real difference in a life!
Watoto - Oh my gosh! The Watoto Children's Choir just came to my church last week - just a note - if they come to yours - bring tissues! Uganda's orphans now loved, cared for, taught, and nurtured, expressing God's love, and being raised up as the future great leaders of Uganda. 1700 rescued orphans - with a goal of 50,000.
All 3 of these life-changing organizations were started with just 1 person. Wow! My part? It's to keep giving & to keep listening for guidance (that Still Small Voice) as to what my part should be in any given season of life.
My Favorites List
The beginnings of a list ...
FAVORITE ARTIST: MONET - Monet has always been my favorite. Renoir is a close second.
FAVORITE MUSIC: MOTOWN - If there's Motown playin', then I'm on the dance floor! (Okay, so now I'm dating myself, but that's okay.)
FAVORITE QUILTING BOOK: AMISH QUILTS - Quilting is one of my favorite hobbies (in addition to gardening & cooking).
FAVORITE GARDENING BOOK: NJ GUIDE - What a reservoir of info here!!!
FAVORITE FOODTV CHEF: ALTON BROWN - He's an Encyclopedia for food scientists and artisans alike.
THE FAVORITES - CONTINUED
FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME: CASABLANCA - I can probably recite verbatim large segments of the movie. This movie has kept me company through many up-late-working-nights and many can't-fall-asleep-nights. It's just perfectly poetic and real and beautiful and priceless all at the same time.
FAVORITE DISNEY & INSPIRATIONAL MOVIE: MIRACLE - I remember not only the game - but how America's mood changed after it. Don't tell anyone this, but motivational speakers would see a steep decline in ticket sales if more people watched this movie.
FAVORITE BASEBALL TEAM: BOSTON RED SOX - My family's from Massachusetts & I grew up in Mass & RI until 10th grade. So, yes, I'm a Red Sox fan living in NJ. This entry also qualifies as one of my FAVORITE BIRTHDAY GIFTS (from my husband - who's a Yankees fan - true love :)
FAVORITE CREATIVE BRILLIANCE MOVIE: THE MUPPET MOVIE - I can't say enough about the inpiring creative brilliance of Jim Henson.
MY 3 FAVORITE CREATIVE GENIUSES
Being an extremely creative person, I admired 3 great geniuses from early-on in life. And these 3 FAVORITES have never changed.
Yes, he was a real live person. And, he started it all.
Charles Schulz was a brilliant illiustrator and philosopher who taught so many things in a few small boxes with a little ink and some colored pencils.
There aren't enough "brilliant" synonyms to describe Jim Henson. My daughter read the sheet music to "The Rainbow Connection" the other day (not knowing anything about the Muppet Movie) and said, "Mom, you've got to read this. This song is AMAZING!"
FAVORITE BOARDGAME: SCRABBLE
Was there ever any real doubt?
