Who is Amkatee
I've got to confess something...
I've been here 3 years and I've never done a lensography. Can you believe it? Actually, there are two of us involved here. My husband Mike contributes from time to time, but I've taken over writing lenses for the most part. We are in our mid 30's. Ack....ok..breathe. I'm fine now. I really do not feel like I'm getting to that almost 40ish age. I'm in denial. Don't tell me! I homeschool my 7 year old and try to get my 3 year old to sit for more than 2 minutes at a time. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 bunny. We love our animals and hope to one day start our own hobby farm. When we fix our house, sell it, make more money and all that other grown up stuff. So here you go. My lensography.
Getting Down To Business
I have my masters in Community Counseling with a specialization in Children and Adolescents. I'm now a stay at home mom who tried out being a medical transcriptionist. I'm better at being a mom to tell you the truth.
How I keep my skills up when staying at home.
As I mentioned, I have my masters in counseling. My specialty is with children who have been abused, but I have also worked in drug rehabilitation and with domestic violence survivors. It has been an interesting journey that's for sure. While I may not be working full time now, I am very much involved in the lives of children. I volunteer with a program called Celebrate Recovery by working with the children as their parents go to support groups. I also volunteer every year as the camp counselor at Royal Family Kids Camp. This has become my passion. If you have never heard of them, you have to find a way to get involved. One week of camp is simply magical!! I love it so much. We are currently raising money for camp this year, so I've been busy collecting items for our garage sale. This camp provides a very intensive love filled week for children who are survivors of abuse or neglect that are currently in the foster care system. I also try to use my counseling skills to outwit my 7 year old, but that doesn't always work out as planned.
I Don't Want To Grow Up
I'm a Toys-R-Us Kid
I dream in cartoon.
Seriously. I think that about sums it all up really. I can't help it. I like to have fun and do things at the spur of the moment. Mike hates that. He's Mr. Black and White let's plan everything. We complement each other well, but we drive each other crazy sometimes.
My childhood was set in the early 80's. Back in the day, I would ride my bike all through town. My mom would literally kick us out the door at 8 am and not expect us back until dinner. I was lucky to live in a small town where I could just roam around and play with no worries. I also spent time watching Fairy Tale Theater, which is why I have two lenses on the subject. It takes me back to being a kid again.
Life would be so much more peaceful and boring without my two little rugrats! They keep me on my toes!
ps. I like exclamation points.
What I didn't know then...
If someone had told me when I was in college that I would be this breastfeeding stay at home mom, I would think they were crazy. I was on the track to a long career in counseling. Not lucrative I might add, but it was a career. I had no idea what was in store for me, but as I entered motherhood things just felt right. We've had a few bumps in the road with finances and health issues, but otherwise life is enjoyable. My daughter is currently waiting to be evaluated for hearing aids, so I made a page with her in mind. I want her to be proud of her aids when she gets them. I have also written to pages regarding the loss of our son. It's a long story full of love and growth, but you can read how it all started. We miss him, but we know he is in the best care with God. My 3 year old boy is what my mom would call a "Ring Tailed Tooter". He's full of it let me tell you.
Awww yeah. Beastie Boys. You have to love them. Ok ok. Yes I'm a crafter. I think it would be easier to describe what crafts I don't do. I'm not into ceramics or jewelry making for instance. I do love knitting, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, painting, and gardening. I won't bore you with the whole list.
That's Not All I do
Yes I love to craft. I've knitted over 100 hats for babies that did not survive birth. I volunteer at a local pregnancy center as well. I felt like I wanted to give back after we lost our son, so I also run my own charity.
This is a little blurb about it: At Christopher's Closet, we believe in the power of 5. Five dollars helps provide materials to rural hospitals to better prepare them when a family is experiencing a still birth. Hand knitted hats, birth certificates, and blankets are given to families who have lost a baby in still birth. Cameras and other supportive materials are donated to the hospitals. My CafePress shop Always and Forever will give proceeds towards this effort. 10% of those proceeds supports our local pregnancy resource center.
Like I said life is busy, but it is fun. I hope you have enjoyed my page!
