Who is ChemKnits?

Updated on November 29, 2012

ChemKnits; Biochemisty, Knitter and Amateur Chef

Who is ChemKnits? Hi, my name is Rebecca and I love writing online. In honor of my 100th lens, I thought it would be fun to share a bit with you about who I am.

Through this lens I hope that you can learn some more about me! I hope to show you how much of the online writing I do is really personal, and how and why these lenses/blogs are part of me.

Title Mosaic created with Andrea Mosaic. See my lens for more information.

ChemKnits, ChemEats and now Squidoo... who knows what will come next!

Who is ChemKnits? A Knitter

If you met me online, you likely would describe me as a knitter. Well my real life friends also would use "Knitter" when describing me.

Let me teach you to knit!

I received many questions on ChemKnits about how to do certain techniques. I found myself searching the web for the best instructions... and then soon found myself working on my own knitting videos!

Who is ChemKnits? A Scientist

The defense of my dissertation in Feb 2011 will mark 13 years of chemistry and biology study. And this is only the beginning

Who is ChemKnits? A Chef

My friends will tell you that I love cooking and hosting parties. I love any chance to try to come up with interesting treats!

Why the Bumble Bee?

This small knit bumblebee is my most popular free knitting pattern. It therefore became my avatar!

@JoyfulPamela2: Yes! I am currently working on one about the life of a graduate student, and I've written two other science lenses, "Xenotransplantation" and "The Chemistry of Hope". Most of the scientific writing I've done has been published in academic journals, but I may have some other items I can write about here :)

Hi! It's nice to meet you! Are you planning to write any lenses in the future about chemistry and / or biology?

I have been delighted to meet and know ChemKnits as a 'knitter' (since I love to work in the field of fiber arts too), but am REALLY looking forward to knowing 'Dr' ChemKnits. Your upcoming accomplishment in the field of Science is outstanding! Well done. And congratulations on your upcoming 'nuptials'. What an interesting life you lead! Now... off to take your quiz and see if I 'really' learned about ChemKnits!

Hi and Congratulations on all of the progress you've made. You remind me a lot of someone I know who completed her Ph.D. in 2002 under similar circumstances. Hope 2011 and the following years are even better than you wish for!

@BrandonJames926: The closest I can find is http://www.etsy.com/listing/58702622/pdf-pattern-b... since the beard itself in that photo is crochet (which alas I still cannot do!)

Unfortunately I'm a knitting dud, but I can crotchet! Congrats on your upcoming wedding. Is there a wedding lens in your future? I enjoyed learning more about you.
