10 Strange Facts. 10 Random True Things That You May Not Know.

Updated on October 15, 2017

Research has found that millions of trees grow because of squirrels who lose their nuts! You'd think they would value their nuts more.

It may be true that squirrels greatly contribute to the growth of trees in forests but scientists have recently discovered that squirrels are more aware of their hiding spots than than previously thought. "They use information from the environment, such as the relative position of trees and buildings, and they triangulate, relying on the angles and distances between these distant landmarks and their caches." (Pierre Lavenex) That's quite an achievement seeing as I can barely find my remote half the time!

Did you know that the next Star Wars will NOT be directed by George Lucas? Wha-wha-whaaaat!?!?!

This was a relevant fact back when this article was first written. Oh how time flies.

Yes, it's true. The upcoming Star Wars: Episode 7 will not be directed by George Lucas. Rather, it will be directed by J.J. Abrams. "Yeah. J.J.'s a great director and we're friends. I think he understands the whole thing and how it works." said Lucas. As of right now Star Wars: Episode 7 is in pre-production. The script will be written my Michael Arndt and produced by Kathleen Kennedy. The internet is a-buzz with Lucas loyalists talking about the destruction of the series. Meantime, others are optimistic, hoping a new director can revive the films back to their former glory(Episodes 4,5,6). Either way, I'm looking forward to the new film and just can't wait!

This one seems so silly but it's true! There's such a thing as a happy-face spider, yup! A freakin' happy face spider!

The happy-face spider is also known as Theridion grallator. It can grow up to 5 millimeters long. These spiders hail from the Hawaiian islands. Technically, they're not all "happy-face" spiders. Each spider's pattern is unique and differ from island to island. Some scientists beleive the pattern is a defense mechanism to protect them from predators. While others beleive the pattern holds no signifigance at all because the spider mainly hides during the day. These guys live beneath the leaves of plants where they chill out and spin their webs, catching insects and what-not. I don't care if the face is useless or not...I want one!

Did you know that Otters hold hands while sleeping so they don't drift apart? Awwwwww, that's too cute!

These little marine mammals are definitely cute. They like to float around in groups, holding hands. These groups are called rafts, they're used for eating, resting and sleeping. Rafts can be made up of hundreds of otters or just two little lovers.

Did you know astronauts are actually TALLER in space? Maybe I should go to space. I might be able to actually get a girlfriend.

The lack of gravity in space allows the astronaut's spine to actually expand. Effectively making them taller.

HOP HOP HOP Lift my tail and PLOP!! A Kangaroo cannot jump with it's tail in the air!

It may sound like BS but it's true. Without their tail touching the ground before they leap, they can not leap! Their tails provide the leverage needed to initiate take off!

ZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZz A snail can sleep for 3 whole years!!! ZzZzZzZzZz And I thought I was lazy!

How do they stay alive? Snails gather lots of moisture and try to stay out of the sun to retain this moisture. When they want to hibernate some snails will dig deep into the soft wet soil where they can sleep for up to three years.

Your body has enough Iron in it to make a 3 inch nail. I AM IRON MAN!!!!

Why do I have metal in me!?!?!? D: Iron is needed for many functions of the body for which I have no idea how to explain or pronounce. But, I do know this iron is needed for the creation of red blood cells and helps in some crazy scientific way to bring oxygen to your cells. Cool stuff, right?
