A glimpse of year 2010

Earth, Fire, Wood, Fire…now comes Year of Metal Tiger. This is according to the 2010 Chinese calendar. The world is watching for the influences it can bring to us the whole year round. So many Chinese influences are being practiced by many Filipinos and one is following the advices in the calendar.

There are twelve faithful animals that visited Buddha in the cave. One of them was the tiger. The interval of choosing the featured animal every year in the Chinese calendar is based from the first and last of the twelve animals who visited Buddha.

Tiger, the Ultimate Predator

The tiger came from the cat family called Felidae. Our domesticated cats came from it, too. Tiger 'roars' while their tiny versions 'meow'.

Being the ultimate predator, tigers are carnivores that mean flesh-eating animals. Stripes of the tigers are used as camouflage in catching their preys. Tigers are usually called ambush predators because they usually hide in shrubs before attacking the passing deer and other herbivores (grass-eating animals).

Tiger have heightened senses and usually a solitary animal. Male tigers only join his female harem during mating season but will return to being alone.

Caged and Domesticated

The Ark Avilon Zoo in Montalban, Rodriguez , Rizal in Luzon, Philippines have a cuddly baby tiger named Randy. Although, domesticated, his handler said that it’s still dangerous because of its huge size.

Handling tigers can be dangerous, just like what happened in USA when a Las Vegas entertainer was victimized by the white tiger during the highlight of their show.

Some Famous Quotes regarding Tiger

Being president is like riding a tiger. Keep on riding or be swallowed.

- Harry S Truman Quoted in the New York Times, 28 Dec1984.

When a man wants to murder a tiger he calls it sport; when a tiger wants to murder him, he calls it ferocity.

-George Bernard Shaw Man and Superman,'Maxims for Revolutionists: Crime and Punishment'.

Signs are taken for wonders.'We would see a sign!' The word within the word, unable to speak a word, swaddled with darkness. In the juvescence of the year came Christ, the tiger.

-Thomas Stearns Eliot 'Gerontion'.

Keep your calm 'roaring'throughout the year. Just like wearing well, thanks for the tips on Chinese astrology or fengshui.
