Laura makes ASCII art, using MS Notepad. (Since 1998). She is currently exploring adding colour to the plain text to make postcards.

Unicorns are not my favourite fantasy creature. I was born in the Year of the Dragon after all.

But, unicorns are one of the more interesting creatures. In legends, unicorns are pure, graceful, delicate and yet strong. Unicorns, for all their purity and often fragile looks are matched with lions in fighting skills. Interesting that unicorns are fantasy, yet fight the lion, a real animal, even a king of it's domain.

In one tradition unicorns are only able to be touched by a virgin. In another unicorns are deflowering virgins with their horns. Unicorns, the legends say, can purify poisoned or tainted water and heal sickness.

Whatever you believe or feel about unicorns they are graceful, sometimes very delicate looking, in the illustrations from the past and these ASCII art (modern) illustrations. One nice thing about creating unicorns in ASCII art is the colouring. ASCII art works well in black and white.

I didn't make all of these myself. The first one, at the top of the post, is mine. The others I collected from various sites and forums online. The artist initials are with the art, unless I couldn't find any.

You can print them out for her. http://www.retrojunkie.com/asciiart/myth/pegasus.t... - This site has more unicorns. You can print this out as a text file and give them to her. Just watch for line breaks. The printer won't know it's a picture and keep each image together on the page.

These are quite amazing. I am impressed. My granddaughter loves unicorns, I will have to show her these. :)
