Are Good Looking People Treated Better? You Betcha, BIG TIME
Here HE/SHE Comes
A woman is walking down the street. it is apparent by the stares and gawks she is receiving that she is not the average run of the mill woman. On a scale of 1 to 10, she could be rated a 20. She is that good looking. Although she is dressed plainly, she is making whatever she is wearing look good. She is even more striking looking as she has no make up.
As she is walking, people are stepping aside to let her pass. Men with their wives, fiancees, and/or significant others are giving her second, third, and even fourth glances much to the utter consternation of the wives, fiancees, and/or significant others. Some of the wives, fiancees, and/or other significant others are dressed more fashionably than the woman in question. Why they are wondering to themselves, what does SHE have that THEY do not have? Really, come on now, they think to themselves, her clothes are not that spectacular! The wives, fiancees, and/or significant others are wondering who is THIS woman to be given so many awe inspiring looks?
A man is walking on a beach. He is wearing nondescript clothing. However, in the looks department, he is an Adonis. He is being stared at left and right. He, of course, is completely obvious to the stares, being in his own world. He is continuing to walk down the stretch of beach. Women are approaching him, asking for his autograph, thinking that he is a celebrity. He just smiles, saying that he is no celebrity of any kind.
He is simply minding his business and having a great beach day. A woman, a fashion scout, is eyeing him. He is apparently in his 20s. This woman is about to ask him if he wants to be a model. This is nothing new to him. Fashion and talent scouts are forever asking him and/or wanting to sign him to be an actor or a model. At the present moment, he clearly is not interested. His main concern is finishing his graduate degree in Robotic Engineering.
Yes, good looking people are physiological and psychological elixirs. Good looking people are pleasant on the eyes and on the psyche. People love good looking people. Good looking people are attractors and draw people to them. Being good looking is highly advantageous and positive in more ways than one.
Good looking people are oftentimes viewed more positively than those who are not good looking. They are also viewed as more intelligent and nicer. Good looking people are considered to be more popular and outgoing than their less good looking counterparts. Even babies and toddlers who are good looking are touched and cuddled more than babies and toddlers who are not good looking. Everyone loves to hold good looking babies and toddlers.
Children who are good looking are viewed as smarter by their teachers and their peers. They also have more playmates and friends than children who are not as good looking. Besides being viewed as smarter or more intelligent by teachers, they are viewed as being more agreeable and personable. They also tend to be chastised and/or punished less by teachers for the same or similar offenses that a less good looking child would be chastised or punished for. They also have higher expectations placed upon them because of their good looks.
Good looking children tend to be more popular in school because they are perceived to be more outgoing and friendly besides being more intelligent. Children, like their adult counterparts, are more comfortable with those who are pleasant on the eyes. They see good looking children as more approachable and less threatening than children who are not good looking. Good looking children make other children feel more at ease. They are also viewed as more confident which further adds to the ease that other children feel when they are around the former.
With the positive reinforcement good looking children receive from both peers and teachers, wrongdoings can be ignored. It is believed by both teachers and peers that such children are incapable of acting in a less than positive fashion. Some good looking children use their looks to take advantage of other children, have the latter do their bidding for them, and/or to treat the latter disrespectfully. Many good looking children use their looks as power. They believe that because they are good looking, they are MORE and BETTER than other children.
The advantages of good looking becomes more apparent as children approach their tweens and teens. Good looking adolescents are more popular, especially with those of the opposite gender. They are asked to join more clubs and associations. They are also considered more attractive and datable than their counterparts who are of average or lesser looks.
Of course, good looking people have avenues and opportunities available to them that are not available to their average or lesser looking counterparts. They also tend to obtain more visible jobs. Companies and corporations want to hire good looking people because it enhances their marketability and profitability. Yes, good looking people are company enhancers and draws. Clients are more willing to do business with good looking personnel than they are with not so good looking personnel. Restaurants with good looking personnel are more likely to do better business because they attract more customers than restaurants who hired average looking personnel. Good looking employees, as good looking people overall, are treated better because they ARE better for business and boost the company's bottom line.
It goes without saying that high visible industries and jobs will, in the majority of cases, hire good looking people. Such industries are highly concerned with and conscious about what type of image they wish to present for the public. The better looking the person, the better the image for the company involved. Industries such as modelling and entertainment are extremely high visibility professions and they want good looking people to represent them as they know that good looking people will have the most mass appeal and marketability. Unattractive actors are extremely few and far between, the majority of actors would be classified as above average in looks.
There is also an instinctive and subconscious reason why good looking people are treated better. The key word in good looking is you guessed it.....GOOD. Subconsciously, good looking people are considered to be good, wholesome, and virtuous. In the movies, the stereotypical good guy is handsome while the villain is oftentimes less than handsome. This stereotypical archetype also applies to women. Glinda the Good Witch in the movie THE WIZARD OF OZ is beautiful while The Wicked Witch of the West is ugly in appearance because she is evil. Being good looking is considered to be good while being less than good looking is deemed to be sinister.
In the movies, in many cases, good looking people portray good, virtuous, and wholesome characters while less attractive people portray less positive and more negative characters. Charlize Theron, a strikingly beautiful actor, made herself ugly in her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos, the serial killer in the move, MONSTER. Remember the saying ugly as sin, this saying reflects the subconscious thinking that ugly is bad, sinister, and evil. Director Spike Lee did not want Halle Berry for the part of the crack addict in his move JUNGLE FEVER. Mr. Lee considered Ms. Berry too attractive for the part, he wanted a less attractive actor to portray the role. However, Ms. Berry fought for and ultimately obtained the groundbreaking role.
Good looking people are treated better because they have a high level of self-confidence. They exude all the positives that people wish they could be. They are also seen by many people to be beyond and above average. Good looking people are considered and/or deemed to be in a class by themselves. They are not like the average Joes/Josephinas. Being good looking places them in the stratosphere so to speak. Many good looking people work their attractiveness to the hilt. There are some who really believe that they do not have to work as hard for their success as less good looking people, believing that their looks will get them where they want to be. They know that they have it easier than their less good looking counterparts.
There are good looking people are were subjected to favorite and preferential treatment by family, friends, teachers, and other authoritative figures from childhood because of their looks. They were given more liberties than others in their respective families, schools, and/or jobs because of their looks. Their families, schools, and jobs may have overlooked their foibles and weakness, saying well that's okay because of their looks. However, there comes a day when the good looking person will not get by on his/her looks alone. He/she will HAVE to prove his/her societal worth. It will be quite difficult because thus far, all he/she had to depend was his/her physical attractiveness and he/she will come to quite a rude awakening. The love affair with his/her looks has ended and it is time to get down to business! The game is over, time to cut to the chase.
In summation, good looking people are treated better because first of all, they are easy physiologically and psychological. Everyone loves to be around and associated with good looking people. They are a positive and exhilarating elixir. They are also confident and alluring, especially to the opposite gender. Good looking children are interacted with more than their less attractive counterparts. They are also viewed as more intelligent and are more popular with their peers. This attractiveness factor follows them throughout their tween and teen years.
Companies and corporations hire good looking people because of the plus factor of marketability and profitability. Clients and customers tend to want to do more business while there are good looking employees than where there are less good looking employees. Good looking employees tend to be hired more in high visible positions where companies and corporations are concerned with public image.
People respond more positively to good looking people because subconsciously being good looking is associated with goodness, purity, and virtue. In movies, good characters are portrayed by good looking people. Villains and other evil characters are portrayed by less attractive people hence the saying ugly as sin.
People also like good looking people because they exude a high level of self-confidence. Good looking people are not perceived to be the average Joe/Josephina. Although good looking people have privileges, advantages, and have it easier than average looking people, there is a TIME when the good looking person has to really prove himself/herself. Looks will not always carry a person through in life and there will be a person who will not care about the good looking person's attractive but whether or not he/she can produce tangible results.
