Courtney is a Junior in High School who has a lot of passion for reading, writing, and learning. She wants to become a lifelong learner.

Back to school time is quickly approaching (it has already come for me) and it can cause a lot of stress for students, parents, and teachers. In this article, I am going to try to give you some helpful tips and tricks to make the upcoming school year more exciting and less stressful.

Be Prepared

This might be an obvious one but being prepared to school in advance can help you start your school year off on the right foot.

If you're anything like me, back to school shopping is almost better than Christmas (and boy do I love Christmas). My favorite thing is picking out all of the cute school supplies and all the other accessories for my backpack. Getting school supplies that are cute makes me excited to use them and excited to go to school.

Being prepared also takes the stress and worry away from not being prepared when school starts. You will have everything ready to start taking notes that you know you love to take.

Get Your Sleep

Many high schoolers today are sleep deprived (including myself) and from my experience, being sleepy at school is never fun.

I always try to aim for 8 hours of sleep a night. I try to go to bed around 9:30-10:00 so I can wake up around 5 and feel rested. Whenever I go to school with little to no sleep I have a bad attitude throughout the day. I also have horrible headaches and just have no desire to learn.

It's no wonder that kids who get more sleep learn better and get better grades.

So get it from me kids. Get your sleep. You'll thank me later.

Start With a Positive Mindset

We all know that school can take a toll on your mental health. Starting the school year off with a positive mindset can really set the tone for your year and make the school year more desirable. I tried this method once after Winter Break and I saw a real difference in my attitude towards school.

Another reason to have a positive mindset towards school is that the people around you may see it and make a change within themselves. I know that high schoolers are not the most open people towards positivity but if you spread positivity throughout your school, you will really see people shine.

Enjoy It

School doesn't last forever and for most people, high school is some of the best years of their lives. Even though school does have it's downsides, school can be a positive experience if you make it.

Take classes that you know you will enjoy, spend time with people who don't put you down, make friends with your teachers. Making school an enjoyable experience for yourself will make you more excited to be there and get rid of that dreaded feeling.

As my old principle would say: Make it a Great Day or Not, the Choice is Yours.

Even though school can be scary, you can change things within yourself to make the school year more enjoyable.

Good luck with your upcoming school year (if you're still in school) and make it the best one yet!

Have a lovely day!

Do you enjoy school?
