All We Do Is Behave

Change Your Thoughts, Change your Life

I’ve found myself getting away from the reason I write this blog. Over the last two weeks, I have noticed that I am more about myself than I am about offering hope to other people. I had the realization that I, too, am human, and while I try to remember to see the miracles in each day, I still forget that I am the luckiest person on the face of the earth.

Even though I have that knowledge on a rational level, sometimes my little abused boy gets in the way. Those are the times that I call "being in the sump pump of life". Those are the times when I think that all is lost and that I am worthless. Thank goodness for books like the Bible, people like Wayne Dyer and Norman Vincent Peale and videos like the one I have in this Hub. When I get back to basics, I am able to crawl toward the ladder of hope and climb through the muck of despair in order to enjoy each minute of each day.

When I begin to look at the life I have and the people around me, the realization that I have everything to live for smacks me in the face like a wet fish off a cod boat. A wife who loves me to the ends of the world. A son who adores me even when he is calling me "dunder head" in that strange eleven year old squeaky voice of his. Rose colored glasses suit me just fine.

Over the time I had been absent from mindfulness and gratitude, I began listening to Bible verses and such. All day. Every Day. I’ve been filling my mind so that the heebee geebees couldn’t creep into my own Abundant Soul.

Bill Glasser says all we can do is behave. So I began behaving differently. I am smelling the wood smoke at Cub Scout camps in a more meaningful way. I am walking not merely for physical exercise, but also to exercise my mindful realization of the beauty surrounding my neighborhood, cookie cutter as it is.

Here is a compilation of some of the things I’ve been listening to. I find that if I fill my mind with the good stuff, I am less likely to crawl into the dark place of fear, ingratitude and self pity. You might say, the sunshine is brighter when you allow yourself to feel it's warmth. Anyone who has ever stood in front of a campfire on a wintry gray day and has subtly felt the embrace of the fire love understands what I mean.

I sincerely hope people read and respond in their own ways to the feelings I am expressing in this Hub. I’d love to learn about more ideas around gratitude. Funny thing, though… no one culture, religion or society has the corner on faith, gratitude or appreciation. I have come to understand that gratitude is an attitude that increases the ability to gain altitude. Imagine that! The more you think you can fl, the better chance you have of actually soaring.

Peace be with you

Bible Verses

My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. (Exodus 33:14)

You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress; my God in whom I trust." (Psalm 91:1-2)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5

Fear of others will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe (Proverbs 29:25)

Buddha Quotes

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.

All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind.

Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.

He is able who thinks he is able.

Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.

He is able who thinks he is able.

Ramakrishna Quotes

A man is truly free, even here in this embodied state, if he knows that God is the true agent and he by himself is powerless to do anything.

Bondage is of the mind; freedom too is of the mind. If you say 'I am a free soul. I am a son of God who can bind me' free you shall be.

God can be realized through all paths. All religions are true. The important thing is to reach the roof. You can reach it by stone stairs or by wooden stairs or by bamboo steps or by a rope. You can also climb up by a bamboo pole.

God is everywhere but He is most manifest in man. So serve man as God. That is as good as worshipping God.

God is in all men, but all men are not in God; that is why we suffer.
