Covalent bond

Updated on July 25, 2014

Bonding

Bonding is the phenomenon that indicates how atom in a molecule binds and different molecules binds.

Bonding may happen in different mechanism.

These are bonding by attraction, bonding by sharing of electron etc.

Whatever, bonding is the main theme of constituting molecule. Different or same kinds of atom forms molecule by a bonding process.

Classification of chemical bonding

Chemical bonding are classified into different class.

1. Ionic bond

2. Covalent bond

3.Coordinate bond

4. Hydrogen bond

discription about different kinds of bonding

Ionic bond

Ionic bond form by attraction between positively charged ion and negatively charged ion.

For example positively charged sodium ion and negatively charged chloride form sodium chloride by ionic bond.

The mechanism of action of sodium chloride is sodium releases an electron and convert into positive ion. On the other hand clorine atom gain that electron and convert into negative charge due to abundances of positive charges.

Two oposite charged ion attract and form a strong bond that is called ionic bond.
