Self Awareness and Communication: Two Necessities For Success

INTRO

In schools, workplaces, relationships, social settings and even at home as well there are two key concepts that will help a person to ensure and solidify their efficiency and progression; Self Awareness and Communication. And these two concepts actually go hand in hand.

SELF AWARENESS:

How Is Being Unaware Slowing Me Down?

"There is no slavery but ignorance. Liberty is the child of intelligence" (Robert G. Ingersoll).

In this referencing, people are not enslaved by chains or shackles but instead they are held hostage (symbolically) by their own naivety and/or intellectual motionlessness. And that kind of internal instability can be manifested externally as well (in appearance, actions, behavior etc).

One of the keys to liberating oneself from this halting self suppression is, to know oneself (self-awareness).

Critical Thinking (Communicating Inward):

Critical Thinking: "The awakening of the intellect to the study of itself" (The Foundation For Critical Thinking).

Critical Thinking is the tool used to achieve Self Awareness. And self awareness is the key to the personal ascension to an intelligent, analytical and intellectual state of mind.

Why Is Self Awareness So Important?

Simple, a person who is unaware that they are not intellectually analyzing and/or dealing with situations will not be able to take the necessary steps to better themselves (or their situations for that matter).

How Can I Achieve Self Awareness?

You must realize two things before being able to do this:

  1. Every thought has an origin.
  2. That origin is the essence and/or make up of a person (personality).

In order to control, regulate, understand and avouch for the sufficiency of one's actions; the pattern of the thought process must be identified. After that identification has been made, a desired "life destination" can also be pinpointed.

And that's basically what self awareness and/or critical thinking is: understanding oneself and ones thought process.

Example:

A man has a choice of 3 paths to take, each path leads to a different destination. The man stands still trying to decide which path to chose, his only thought is "I don't know". Eventually he dies of indecision.

Moral of the story: You always have 4 choices in life;

  1. You can do this.
  2. You can do that.
  3. You can let someone else tell you what to do.
  4. Or, you can do nothing.

Each choice leads to a different outcome, the man from the story choice option 4 and spent his life at a standstill.

So, What Should I Do?

To realize where you want to go or what you want to do in life you must first realize where you are and why you're there (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually etc).

Knowing and communicating with yourself will help you to successfully communicate with others, self awareness is crucial to success but that alone will not solidify your progression. Communication is also a vital necessity.

COMMUNICATOIN:

Note: Communication as explained in this article is not in the context of trivial conversations, but more so in the realm of conversation with a clear and distinct goal towards progression (education, career, romance, family etc).

Well, Why Is Communication So Important?

You are ALWAYS communicating with others whether you are aware or not, so it's not necessarily communication that needs to be mastered, but instead it is effective communication that is essential. With that being said, there are many levels of communication, the conveying of information isn't restricted to verbal interaction. Communication, by definition is: the exchange of thoughts, information or messages through speech, signals or behavior.

In order to successfully send a message to someone you need to be sure that both your words and actions properly announce that message. And to do that you have to recognize; what that message is, what the best way to send that message is and where you stand in terms of sending that message (that's where self awareness ties into communication).

Both of these applicants are sending a message to their employer (whether they know it or not).

Can You Put It ALL Into Context?

Okay, two people are applying for job and hoping to be hired (one is dressed to impress, the other not so much). Of the two workers, they both want the job equally but the "slouchy" applicant is seemingly unaware that the message he is sending through his appearance and actions is lessening his chances of being taken seriously by the employer. But the "determined" applicants message is being delivered quite successfully (because he recognized what communication methods were necessary to send a message of professionalism and determination).

CONCLUSION:

In order to achieve success in this world and in this life you need to be able to effectively communicate with others, and to do that you need to be able to communicate with yourself as well. Many jobs, relationships, school careers, friendships and family relations can be ruined by the lack of communication between people. Follow these helpful words and you can be well on your way to a bright and successful future (in any and all aspects of life).

You hit it right on the button with the most important point in life. And that is communicating with ourselves. People create their own limitations out of fear or indecisiveness. But without communicating with ourselves we may not even realize what we're doing.
