Do you think girls should be given the same education as boys

Updated on May 15, 2009

Education is often described as being the link between an individual and the society of which he forms part of, through systematic training and instructions principally at school level. The debate whether girls should be allowed the same education as boys has been going on for many years and, in fact, in some countries, is still going on.

Before really starting up these arguments, the fact should be considered that during the past few years, girls have made really big progress in various fields. Indeed, even now, there are very few fields in which girls have not yet set foot in or have not yet tried their luck in. but surely, in the incoming years, this gap will be completely filled up. Also, girls have, over the years, proved that they are very efficient in their respective fields. Indeed, many studies have shown that girls are more efficient than boys and that they find success more rapidly than boys. Moreover, these studies have found out that girls tend to be perfectionists in their fields of work and so, whatever work is given to them, they will end up doing their best to complete it.

However, though it is true that girls have proved themselves to be quite competent in many fields, there are certain drawbacks. True, girls tend to be quite perfectionist in their work but it is this same behaviour that makes them quite undesirable with respect to their male working partners. Indeed, girls have a great tendency to do everything according to their own way of thinking, especially if hey are given a high power in their work. They like to rule over and take the reins in any work given to them.

It should not be forgotten, though, that even since school level, girls outdo boys. Indeed, at the secondary level, girls’ performances are much better than boys. Their success are much more that that of boys. And if ever since primary or secondary education, girls show so much success, then it is absolutely certain that in the working sphere, they will give good results. Any company they work in would eventually want success, irrespective of how dominant girls have been over their working partners to give a proper, near perfect job.

Furthermore, various fields are demanding more women as workers. In the political field in Mauritius, for example, women are urged to join politics. This is mainly because the former government truly think that in some cases, only women’s calm ways of thinking, or their ways of taking care of problems and their cool attitude can suit the job given to them. An example is, certainly, the Ministry of Women’s Protection and Child Development. Awkward situations may crop up if a man takes care of a raped woman or physically harassed women. The latter would, eventually, see danger in the man, even if he is coming to help.

However, women’ sensitive physique cannot suit every type of work also. A crude example is the work of a house builder. Now, unless the woman in question is a really bulky one and has no fear of being crushed by all the concrete materials, she obviously would never be able to handle the job. However, unfortunately, not every woman on Earth who wish to take up a job, gets the opportunity of working in an office or in a bakery; there are certain jobs such as mechanic or carpenter and it is only under risk that a woman can take up that job.

Finally, it can be concluded that girls should certainly be given the same right of obtaining education as boys. After all, it forms part of their rights and discrimination should be overlooked or even abolished. However, a limit should be set concerning some work. Accordance must be found between girls and boys and then, there will be no question of whether to allow girls to have same education as boys. They are, after all, not made only to take care of households!
