Eating Words of Wisdom!

Updated on February 18, 2011

Watch what you say, you may have to eat your words!

Choosing the words we take in!

Developing a love for reading positive, motivational books and tapes (back then)...helped me to stay focused on good things in life. I did start getting confidence, that my life can amount to something. I learned that feeding my mind with good words, was truly like eating nutritional food. A new type of food, that gives energy and keep on living.

From the time I was young, I was programmed to watch what I say. The problem was that, I was living in fear of my own words. It wasn't just about watching what you say, it was also about being afraid to say anything! Even the words that need to be said!

The words I spoke I knew could be used against me, not just physically but spiritually. You've heard the warning too...the things that you watch on tv, the people you hang around, the books you read, movies, and music? It can all be used for the good or for the bad.

What goes in, must come out. Have you ever seen the demonstration of the clean water, and ever time you feed your mind with something negative...a drop of black dye is dropped in the water. This visual picture has stuck in my minds for years!

Being careful what you say, and what you see, was very evident to me. I didn't want dirty images or negative words fed in my mind, to be brought up later and used against me. Being tormented from these words, and pictures that filled my soul.

Feeling insecure already, I did strive to find the right type of friends, friends with goals! I would be purposeful, in meeting new people in positive places. It was fun, once I met some people who were going somewhere in life! Just getting to know them, and learning to think differently...opened up new windows of opportunity for myself as well. These people were encouraging, and helped me step out.

I found...I really liked being around positive people, rather than negative people, going no where! They did make life more exciting, and helped me to focus on goals for myself. What did I really want to do, with my life. Many times, I found I was following others, rather than choosing my own path:)

There was a time in my life where I understood, I was associating with the wrong type of people. They were leading me down the wrong path. One day at that time...I was reading that book, called "Magic of Thinking Big" went on to challenge you to check your surroundings. If you like what you see, keep doing the same things and that is how you will be in 5 years.

This one little paragraph woke me up, I checked my surroundings and the people were not pretty. They were continuing to make, wrong choices in their actually scared me! I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, I didn't want to be where they were..5 years from now! I took a closer look at myself, and saw that I had already been changing, to be more like those so called friends. Looking at things with a clearer vision...I changed my habits, immediately!, and quit hanging out with the wrong type of people.

Words can produce the quality of your actions!  So choose to continue to watch what you feed your mind with.  It feels so much better to lead quality and productive lives, making the most of our time in a positive way!

Positive vs Negative

You Can Be Your Own Judge?

About your words, your goals, the things you view or listen to:) It can be for the good or bad of this world. We have so many opportunities, we can choose how we program our own thinking and feeling.

We can make a choice to have a good day, even if things don't go as planned. One thing that has helped me so much in life is...when I am struggling with something in my life, I find a book, specific to the subject I need to overcome.

Then I set out to apply some of the concepts in the book, to my own life. I like to learn from other peoples mistakes, when I can. It seems less painful, to not go down some of the same roads others have in life. The Bible is also a good book, I like to learn from the mistakes of people in Bible days as well. Sometimes it is hard to believe people back then struggled with the vary things our society struggles with. I guess as some would say, people are people:)

We have to be careful of the words and word pictures, we allow to be fed into our minds! As you've heard before, the things we do...the words we speak, are a reflection of what, is in our hearts:)

      Tongue is very powerful.

I am now trying to teach my children how to chose words which are not hurting, which are encouraging and at the same time not too flowery.

They forget all that when they quarrel each other:)

      Thanks for sharing.

The name of this hub sounded so delicious, I had to read on....

The spoken word is the second phase of manifesting what we have already manifested in our own mind, much stronger than most people give credit for, but it is still sooooo hard for some to think before they speak, myself included.

      Great hub!

heart4theworld, It is my most positive thought that people reaize that fertile soil is that of positive people and we are to sow on fertile ground...hopefully our good example of watering the good in need will serve as a positive example for those who are not positive and live in the light! Simple and how great is he to make it so simple for his children! Peace :)

This has to be one of THE major keys to living life well. Anyone can be negative, and speak negative, and sadly more people do than don't. It takes effort and a deliberate decision to be positive and speak positive words.

Motivators and trainors don't come any better than old Zig.

Moments by yourself for introspection are good moments. How often do we really contemplate the self?

      Good points.

As I read of how you looked around you and did not want to end up like those you were seeing I thought of Proverbs 1.

Wisdom calls aloud, urging (and warning) us to the counsel of God's Word. In our weaknesses its a wonderful thing to know that He will help us if we will seek His help.

Wow, it's very true about how our words impact other people and ourselves. Words can hurt but they can also encourage people. Great lesson!

Wonderful words of wisdom. I think that is why I like writing better than talking. I can always filter what I write before I send it out. Too often my words fly out before I have taken the time to allow the Holy Spirit's divine wisdom to guide me.

Heart4theWord (BTW, I love your hub name!)

Your hub is great and so true, Jesus talked of watching what you put into your heart more than what you put into your stomach. I also thought of Pauls words to the Philippians 4:8 which says: Finally, beloved,

      whatever is true,

      whatever is honorable,

      whatever is just,

      whatever is pure,

      whatever is pleasing,

      whatever is commendable,

if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

If what am thinking about does not fall into these categories...I need to punt the thought with swiftness. And fill my mind with the things mentioned above.

Great hub Heart4theword...loved it, it was "good" to think on this!!! Have rated and stumbled your hub...good job!

      Blessings to you

Words are powerful. I know that I want to choose words that are true and words that encourage, but sometimes it is difficult to blend these two together.

Hi H4TW, This statement kind of jumped out at me: "I found I really liked being around positive people, rather than negative people, going no where!" Maybe it is because it is my way of life. I am into being positive, living positive, and serving a positive God.

You made some excellent points here my friend and I trust many will benefit from it as I have. Cool picture!!

      Love and peace,

      Forever His,
