Things You Might Not Know About Left Handed People

Are you left handed? Or do you know anyone who is left handed? If yes, then this is the page for you. Here you will read some amazing facts about left handed people which you might or might not know already. Statistics have shown that this minority group are more likely to make a mark in whatever they do as compared to right handed people. Did you know that around 20% of MENSA members are left-handed?

Living in a world which is primarily designed for right handed people can be tough. I have seen such people mostly complain when they are driving or when they are using door handles which are developed keeping the right handers in mind. 13th August is considered as International Left Handers Day. That day is approaching soon and I found it befitting to create a hub dedicated to such people who are different from the lot and who have to adjust to the ways predefined by the society.

Scientific American has stated that males are more likely to be left handed as compared to females. I believe in this particular fact if not anything else because I have yet to see a left handed woman in my life, though I have seen many left handed males. Do you want to know more left handed people statistics? Keep reading!

In the past, left handed children forced not to use their left hand -- I have heard this before. I also heard that in some parts of the world handing something to someone using your left hand is disrespectful. Interesting hub! Thanks!

I will certainly enjoy reading more and more of your articles. I am left handed (as is my mother) and yes - I totally hate spiral notebooks! Another fact (maybe why we die earlier) - about 2000 lefties die every year by trying to use a right handed tool... It's a bummer.

I love your articles and their randomness - you will definitely inspire many more articles for myself.

I have like six friends that are lefties and altogether i know about 11 or 12 left handed people at the least. And out of those 6 friends, 2 are male 4 are girls, and 1 of both genders are actually my best friends!

      I simply adore lefties even though i'm a righty~

I've actually trained myself to be able to write with my left, so i can understand how they hate spirals!

      Love the hub~

As a born LHP, converted, by ignorance and strange religeous placavities, into being RHP.

Some of the strange things that come into ones life, There are no left handed fish knives, you try to eat fish at a formal diner!

My best friend in childhood was a born lefty but forced to learn to write as a righty. The result being her handwriting was nearly illegible for the rest of her life. I shudder to think the effect this had on her brain.

When my right arm was in a cast, I discovered I could write quite well (and legibly!) with my left hand, but backwards so that it had to be read while held up to a mirror.

One daughter is a lefty, so I already knew why leftys hate spiral notebooks. (Which isn't in any way "funny", btw.) However, lefty spiral notebooks ARE available, but more easily found on lefty websites than in office supply and stationery stores.

It's easy to understand why left-handed people hate spiral notebooks. But they can even the playing field. Just turn to the last page in the notebook so the spiral is on the right and use only every other page writing from the back of the notebook to the front. Like a book written in Hebrew from the back to the front.

Thanks for the interesting leftie information, divacratus.

My daughter is left-handed so I don't like the last fact. My husband and I are both right-handed and I read once that there was only a 2% chance of us having a left-handed child.

My son was left handed and when he first started school the teacher made him use his right hand to write with. He can use either hand but usually will use his right hand now for most things that he does. Interesting article.
