Spreading "Good Words"

What would happen if all of us worked together to express and share our faith and inspirational stories with our friends, community and those within our sphere of influence? The answer, I believe, is that the beauty of faith would spread as far as the East is from the West; it would have no borders. Just imagine, if you can, the far-reaching implications of sharing one's deep faith with a hurting world to bless many and to give hope.

This is exactly what is happening right now here on HubPages. I am so thankful to Jo_Goldsmith11 for her dedication to writing and sharing her Light2Love Project Good Words. A beautiful undertaking by a beautiful soul.

As a small child, I knew of and felt the presence of the Lord in my life. I will share a bit about that later in this hub. Life marched on through the teenage years, family issues, marriage, career, college, family and all the highs and lows that life entails.

I know now that God sees every segment of our lives and will faithfully guide us along the best path if (and that's a big if), we’ll just trust and follow Him with all our heart. That is the key to living a full life of faith, which I failed to recognize for many years of my life. Faith and trust go hand-in-hand. The bottom line was that I did not place my full trust in Him with all of my heart. I truly thought I knew what was best, and I was in charge, or at least I thought I was at the time.

What Faith Can Do

I love the biblical definition of faith from Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

What Faith Can Do

• Faith can allow peace to permeate every aspect of our lives no matter what is going on.

• Faith can heal, emotionally, spiritually and physically.

• Faith can allow us to know without a doubt that our prayers are heard and answered.

• Faith can take away all fear of the unknown.

• Faith can allow miracles to be witnessed.

• Faith can bring hope that soars.

• Faith can open our eyes to truth.

• Faith can allow us to know that all things are possible.

That is what faith can do!

I am able to write all of this with great confidence as I have experienced all of the above and so much more. One area I used to struggle with for years is insomnia, but not any longer, for once I pray and truly cast all of my cares to the Lord, then that sweet, sweet peace comes and I am able to sleep like a baby. I have finally come to the realization that I am not in control and when I do pray, I can rest assured knowing He will work all things out for good.

Faith makes all things bearable and the beauty of this life is realized, even through the not so pleasant moments we all experience.

Fear can keep us up all night long, but faith makes one fine pillow.

As I mentioned earlier, as a small child, I could feel the presence of the Lord right there by my side. It was nothing my parents told me of then, but I just knew. I found much joy in the beauty of nature all around me, which brought me closer to the awareness and presence of God. Maybe that is what is called childlike faith. I will expound on that and share a sweet and simple true story, which may sound silly to many.

Our small wood frame home was surrounded with a floral wonderment during Spring with our entire backyard filled with magnificent Dogwood trees (nature's cross) in bloom, especially just in time for Easter.

I remember standing on the stoop of the cement steps leading to the backdoor to our home with my small hands gripping tightly to the wrought iron railing, while peering out into spectacular Dogwood trees in bloom. I could not have been more than five years old at the time, maybe even younger. Our backyard sloped a bit and so the flowering trees were right in my line of sight. My sweet mother had carefully placed a birdhouse hanging from one of the branches to where I could clearly see inside at the Momma bluebird getting her nest ready. Then much to my joy and wonder later seeing eggs. I watched each day with anticipation knowing that Easter was soon to arrive.

I remember thinking how thrilling it would be if those eggs were to hatch on Easter morning. In my little mind that would have been a miracle. Each day while I was standing out there keeping watch, I could feel the presence of the Lord and I knew He knew the desires of my heart. Oh, joy, Easter morning arrived! I could hardly wait to go outside on that stoop and peer inside the birdhouse to see the hatched eggs. I was expecting that very thing to happen on that very morn. My mother had patiently put on my pretty Easter Sunday dress and I slipped on my black patent leather shoes. Our (I have three siblings now, but at that time, my brother) Easter baskets were filled with a chocolate bunny, peeps and the like.

Seeing those Easter baskets did not slow me down in the least bit, as I headed straight for that backdoor and ran out onto that cement stoop. I reached for the wrought iron railing and gripped it ever so tightly with great anticipation and peered over the railing into the birdhouse. My little heart started racing so fast inside my chest and my eyes grew wide in awe, for at that precise moment, baby birds were hatching from their eggs! Oh my! My little heart's desire was fulfilled! I remember my heart overflowing with such excitement and joy that I did not know what to do next.

I just had to share this miracle with my family, so I quickly ran inside shouting, "It's an Easter miracle!" Much to my surprise and dismay, I was met by my brother's questioning stares. He certainly did not share my enthusiasm about such miracle. My family was getting ready to head off to church and my mother was making last minute preparations for Easter dinner. Apparently, it was not much of a miracle to anyone else, but that did not squelch my joy. I quickly ran back outside to quietly enjoy the miracle before having to leave for church. Right then is when a little thought popped into my head or was spoken to me ..."This is meant for you alone sweet child." I smiled.

Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Tuning Ourselves to God's Music and Walking in Faith

Just like my dear friend, Maria, who is also known as marcoujor here on HubPages, I, too, grew up loving and listening to all genre of music. I still love them all today. Imagine just how thrilled I was to learn of Maria's Project-Good-Words-Musical-Challenge to follow in step with Jo's Light2Love Project Good Words. I am thrilled and humbled that Maria asked me to reflect on the "Good Word" of faith!

When it comes to my faith and singing praises to my Lord this present day, I love listening mostly to Contemporary Christian music. I do not think of myself as religious per se, but rather having a personal and intimate relationship with the Lord. When I entered into such a relationship is when my faith grew so strong and knew no boundaries ...truly a faith without borders.

I believe that when we begin to walk in faith, we are then able to tune in to God's music. Just what is God's music? Well, to me, just a few examples of God's music is the beauty in a child's laugh, a newborn's cry when entering this world, the song bird's sweet songs, the sound of leaves rustling through the breeze, the sound of a gently babbling brook, the sound of sloppy doggy kisses against our faces, and all the beauty found in nature and His creation. Well, you see where I am going with the sweetness of God's music.

I can sing freely and rejoice in my faith in Him, as I will always remember the marvelous and wondrous things He has done in my life: Healing me of breast cancer, healing my son of a completely shattered spleen, healing one of my granddaughters of nerve damage to one of her arms, witnessing miracles day-after-day, answers to all prayers, sending angels down to protect me during a drive across state lines to see my dying mother, where my car did three 360s in the middle of the Interstate without a scratch on me or my car, and on and on. His mercies and love are truly endless.

Having great faith by no means takes away any hardships in life, but it truly helps one to see through to the other side with great hope for brighter days.

Amazing True Story of Faith Behind the Song - Do Something!

A Faith Without Borders

When I first heard this song by Matthew West, "Do Something", I loved it, but then when I heard his inspiration for writing this song and the amazing true story behind the song, I was blown away.

It is the story of a lovely young woman, Andrea, who was from Colorado, but now is from Uganda. She was a student, who just happened to travel to Uganda for class credit in Micro-Financing. What happened next changed her life forever and now her life impacts many other lives for eternity.

I cried when I listened to her story, as she tells it in her own words. Her words keep ringing truth in my ears and heart, "If I don't do something, who will?", and she did! What is so amazing is that she had taken such a huge leap of faith without any planning ahead and without knowing how she would accomplish what she set out to accomplish.

Listen for yourself and be amazed and deeply touched by her conviction that every person is capable of doing something to make the world a better place, no matter who you are or where you are, you can make a difference right where you are in your sphere of influence.

So when He asks you to do something that seems beyond your abilities, decide to trust Him, and say, “Okay, Lord—let’s go!”

So, you see I have truly reaped all the benefits of having great faith, even in the unknown and through dark valleys we must all go through in this life.

Go on and take that leap of faith. It makes all the difference in a life well-lived. Let’s leave a legacy of faithfulness.

      I know what you mean about feeling as though something is especially for you; the bird story is wonderful. It's usually a natural event that has affected me, such as the albino blackbird I encountered - he was there when my hope to see him one more time was so strong it was palpable. Amazing!

      I regard myself as a Christian, though I no longer go to church regularly. I do believe in God but I feel uncomfortable with evangelistic tactics; I don't like being told what to do! That sounds awful but that's me (I'm not referring to this hub, I hasten to say).

      This hub is beautiful; it inspires me and the more faith and hope in the world, the better it will be.

      You are one of my favourite hubbers because your gentleness and sincerity shine through everything you write - and your faith.

      I am so glad you enjoyed the bird story from my childhood, and can relate. Thank you for sharing about your bird story too. I almost did not include mine but I am glad I did. I have so many stories of childlike faith and other stories to be told of happenings that I know are totally due to the Lord God healing, answering prayers that I could not write about them all here in this hub.

      Yes, I do not consider myself religious per se, as I stated, as religion is more about man's laws and not that personal and intimate relationship with the Lord. Although, we do attend a church for fellowship.

      I am so glad you thought this hub beautiful and inspiring. Yes, the more faith and hope in this world, the better it will be indeed!

      Don't know how many times I've stood on the edge of a great crevasse, wondering how in the world I was going to get to the other side. Only a "leap of faith" could get me across. It began with me putting one foot in front of the other even knowing there was no firm ground beneath my feet. God did the rest.

I have been through many dark hours and He sustained me through them all, and have been a witness to miracles and healings. His plan for us is far better than anything we can imagine, even though going through those dark hours do not seem like it at the time, but is always revealed to me later, to His glory.

      Such a beautiful story and I do remember about your birds hatching. God has came through for me so many times when I needed Him and it really took very little faith or I would not have been in awe. Just looking and expecting really can be enough to see a miracle. God wants to be there for us, always; and then He wants us to share that, which is our praise to Him. I think many think being a Christian is such a big job...be we know it isn't...it just takes faith as big as a mustard seed.

      This is one of the most beautiful articles I have ever read anywhere. God bless the beautiful little one who received the Lord's healing - a miracle indeed! And God bless her family who must have prayed so hard in faith and with trust in the Lord - that faith & trust was honored by the Lord and He gave her life! A miracle witnessed right before their eyes! A testimony for the world...

      The little birdies... I can easily visualize all those little details and I almost felt as if I were standing there myself, anticipating the miracle of life happening right before your eyes. There's no doubt the Lord spoke to you that day, your personal gift from Him. So beautiful!

      Oceans by Hillsong United, currently my favorite worship song. I see many of the words that God has given me when I hear this song - I can't explain what my heart and Spirit feel... No earthly words for that...

      I can completely relate to you in that I've witnessed miracles right before my eyes, and it's absolutely amazing to know how small we are in comparison to the Lord, yet we are so great in His eyes, that every moment He's watching, listening, caring, loving, and moving for us. He's so faithful and He deserves for us to have that same kind of faith and love for Him; to trust him "without borders", literally. That's an amazing feeling. I'm in awe of the Lord...

      What the faith is going on around here, Faith Reaper??!!

      I have come back now for the third time to this stellar essay on the subject of faith -- this time to actually comment, having read through once and now watched/ listened to each of your well selected and inspirational videos.

      The sharing of your personal experiences is relatable, endearing and meaningful. I would love to see a collection of such stories published, it would be timeless through the generations.

      The quotes you selected were some of the best. I especially loved: "Faith makes one fine pillow".

      The videos gave me goosebumps. Baby Serenity reminded me of my Momma who was raised from 2.2 pounds and thrived with miracles and TLC. Although I had to listen to "Oceans" twice (LOL), it is a spiritually awesome song. I loved the quivering strength and determination in young Andrea's voice as she spoke of her Children in Uganda...I had heard that song but never knew the powerful story behind it.

      With the caliber of these comments, I do not envy your baton toss...but you sorta cannot go wrong, which is so wonderful.

      Dear friend Faith Reaper!!! I.AM.SPEECHLESS.

      This is so phenomenal that I printed it all out, and I watched all your videos. Yes, me who is a human pogo stick, whirling dervish, scurrying around, racing the clock, DROPPED EVERYTHING because I knew in my heart that this is a vital read.

      The videos were off the charts. I have heard all the songs on the Family Life Network...but to see them on video...especially Matthew West and the Uganda story - there are no words to express the emotion I felt. Oceans gave me goose bumps and brought tears to my eyes.

      This is a much needed and timely write, especially NOW with all the terrible things that are happening in our world.       And the Uganda story of how one person has made such a difference! What great timing with you and I reading Rhinestone Jesus...another woman who wanted to 'do something.'

      THANK YOU for sharing these incredible videos. Your story about the little birds...WONDERFUL, and, well, you know me, the creature lover of the planet...I just put another bug outside that I saw in our bathroom...I CANNOT kill God's creatures (except flies and mosquitoes)...the other day spider zilla was in our cellar, - Dave put it outside...it was LIFE and I could not kill it, as it was not doing any harm. The poor thing is cursed with its looks, but I guess I always think of Charlotte's Web when I see a spider.

      Your question, "what would happen if all of us worked together to express and share our faith and inspirational stories with our friends,

      community and those within our sphere of influence?" -YOUR answer that the beauty of faith would spread as far as the East is from the West; it would have no borders....then adding, "this is exactly what is happening right now on Hub Pages" - I feel like this hub has waved a wand of hope and encouragement to everyone who reads it.

      I praise God for you and Jo Goldsmith and those who are contributing to the Good Words Love Project...what a phenomenal idea and blessing...to spread ripples of good words and hope throughout the hub community.

      This is so needed. Your quote by Helen Keller and the huge "FAITH" at the beginning is so exquisite. It is like a heart magnet, the very second you open the hub.

      Faith, this is beautiful and inspiring. There were times in my life when the only course of action was to take a giant leap of faith. Always when I thought I'd crash and burn, I somehow managed to find a soft place to fall. I read somewhere that faith is believing in something, when common sense tells you not to. I'm certainly guilty of that, although I'm not what you'd call religious.

      I loved the blue bird Easter story, we had a similar experience one Easter morning, but our surprise was three beautiful puppies in the garden under a thick growth of vines. We had previously rescued the mum and didn't realized that she was expecting.

Anyway, I can't count how many times God has intervened on my behalf and how many times he has provided miracles of healing. Faith without borders is where we should all strive to be within God's kingdom. I play music in my home to inspire my faith. Great thoughts on this truth.

      Blessings my dear and precious sister. I am touched as always to be in your neighborhood. I so enjoyed reading your Easter miracle story. I felt I was there looking at the baby birds. God just loves to give surprises and gifts to His kids. He is so awesome. He is in every part and detail of our life. Our Lord is amazing love indeed.

      Faith is a beautiful and amazing gift from our God, amen! We are all dealt a measure!! We need to exercise and feed our faith.       I have always loved what your uzer name stands for! To reap the benefits of faith is a truly amazing feeling and sometimes the only hope that keeps a person going. I like to remember that even when afraid or unsure a mustard seed does amazing things.

      I know you know some of what makes faith so important to me. I think those times like that of struggle and hardship do indeecd fill one with more compassion and concern for others.

      I am also reminded of a poem I wrote in high school that a friend of mine wanted put to music when I was writing with another friend. Your mention of child like faith reminds me. I love the idea of it. Always have. Children are so pure and curious, amazed an in awe so easily. They just drink it all in and enjoy the wonder of life.

      Like a Child

      Sometimes I doubt

      And I don't know what to do

      Please help me to see

      That you're always there for me

      There's nothing that I fear

      I know I have told you this so many times before, but each time you pop in and make your enthusiastic comments, it just blesses my socks off! Well, it's summer, so I will say ... my sandals off : )

      I am thrilled you loved the quotes and the videos. I thought of Kristen Welch, the author of "Rhinestone Jesus", the amazing book you sent to me that has blessed me beyond measure. Andrea reminds me so much of Kristen for they are both women of such great courage to step out of that "sparkly" faith and into that real deal faith to impact lives and making an eternal difference.

      Yes, Jo and Shyron have been spreading the "Good Words" around HP and beyond for quite a while now. I believe Jo is way up there now close to 30!!! And Shyron is keeping up with Jo, with her beautiful poetry for each "Good Word" Jo comes up with ... how lovely. Now, my dearest Maria, who passionately loves music, has her musical challenge going and passing the baton of each "Good Word" of Jo's since the first week of Jo's first word of love, and now faith.

      I love your heart for all of God's creatures, big and small, and I am happy you loved my little childhood story of the bluebirds hatching. I have already written of the powerful healing the Lord has done in my life, and so I thought I would share this simple story. It is funny those memories have just stuck with me for my entire life ... something simple as that, but filled my heart with so much joy to know God knew the desires of my little heart at the time, and blessed me to see those eggs hatching on Easter morn, when I just knew they would do so.

      I have three Jo friends now on HP! Yes, I am glad to be writing something again, finally, thanks to my sweet friend, Maria, encouraging me to write on "Faith" which is an area in my life that has truly grown by leaps and bounds. It is amazing how it works, at least for me, the more difficult storms I have to weather, the more my faith grows stronger.

      Ah, yes, the bluebirds of happiness. I will always remember those special days as a small child waiting expectantly for those eggs to hatch on Easter morn. I truly remember just knowing they would do such on Easter. He may have already assured of me it and so I waited so patiently. I have written of His grace in healing me of breast cancer and other powerful miracles, so I wanted to share a simple story of a child's faith. Although, we are grown, we should all have the faith like a child and be in awe of His amazing grace.

      Dear Faith Reaper, I can't imagine living without having faith in the powers of God. I don't see him as a human figure, but as a power keeping this universe together. Earth and all that is living on it seems to be his favourite creation, and somehow the metaphor of the wheel that turns full circle suits him perfectly.

      So we have to have faith in his power in order to experience all of those wonderful things you have listed under 'What Faith Can Do'.

      What a lovely experience you have had at such a young age - witnessing the hatching of birds! It sure had made a deep impact on you.

      Morning Dear Martie, I can't imagine that either. I love your metaphor. Yes, He certainly is the power over the circle of life. Faith can do so much in our lives, even faith as small as a mustard seed. As I have already written of great healings and such, I thought about focusing on childlike faith in this hub and just had to share my little baby birds miracle : ) ...I can still remember to this day my heart pounding so hard in my little chest at the sight of seeing those eggs hatching!       So glad you like that poem. The song it became has been in my head since I read your beautiful hub and special bird story. I remember when I wrote it. I was in high school and visiting my mother's aunt with my grandma. My uncle expected us to go to a church that I knew would bore me to death. All I wanted was to worship my own way and feel connected. I ended up writing that, but no one else cared. LOL

      Faithreaper, what an apt name! Your hubs always touch me, but this one did so much more. It reminded me of the many times God worked miracles on my behalf, some little, some great, and yet I struggle with anxiety (and insomnia!) at times.       Faith certainly does do all of that and I have reaped the benefits of having faith through some truly dark times and have seen miracles happen, just like that song says. We all have our struggles, and with each day my faith gets stronger, I can handle almost anything this sometimes brutal life throws at me. I know that if I had gotten breast cancer 15 years ago, I would have had a totally different experience than I did in 2011, when His peace just rained down on me, like nothing I have ever experienced before in my life. I truly was okay in my mind, no matter if the cancer ravaged my body or I was healed. As I knew I was going to be okay either way. He healed me, and I just knew that He would. I cannot really put it into words how I just knew. He baffled the doctors, and I always love it when He does that, so I am still here for some reason.

      Oh, thank you so much for saying that for it truly means a lot to me that my hubs always touch you, and I am blessed to know that this one did even more so. I have been away for a bit from HP, and so glad to be back publishing, but I wanted to try to publish something a little inspiring and did not want to publish just to publish, if you understand my meaning. I am grateful for Maria who tossed the "baton" to me to write on the topic of faith, one of my favorite topics of course!

      It is always so wonderful to recognize His miracles in our lives, no matter the size, big or small. We all struggle with something for sure. Yes, I had terrible insomnia for years for I just could not turn off my brain with worrying about so many things, and we know worrying does not help anything or no one, especially us. I began digging deep into His Word each day and He revealed so much truth to me and then I truly believed Him ... not saying believe in Him, as I do and did, but believe His Word (promises), which is pure truth. I began to know Him and His character and then that made all the difference in the world, being in that truly intimate and personal relationship. We can go to church each Sunday and Wednesday nights and serve Him wherever and do all these things, but it is not until we truly are in the wonderful relationship with our Lord, that transforms us. It is a process, and I am so thankful He is not finished with me yet as I have such a long way to go, as we all do.

      Yes, I know He hears and He answers our prayers and the beauty is that He may not answer them as we think at the time of our prayer of just how they should be answered, but He goes beyond that what we can even imagine and may allow us to go through things we may not want to go through, but when we look back, the way He answered our prayers is always best for us.

      Faith is the driving force that pushes oneself ahead for Goodness, without even being appreciated. Faith is the distinguishing characteristic between the blessed and the "others" I would say. Faith has its legacy, Need of the day is to believe in GOD and have Faith in Him and your abilities for all goodness.

      Faith Reaper. Precious woman greetings and blessings. I read your hub last night and was delighted with the words you write in truth and honor to our Holy God. As you so dearly shared God is so amazing. He does love to surprise His children. I love the easter story and that the robins did give birth on easter. God is like that so awesome! He is so personal and cares about every part of our lives. I love to cloud watch and I know every once in a while He will put a special cloud just for me. He makes me to smile just thinking of His creativity. I love how you write about faith and how it moves from here to there. The Holy Spirit of God is like that and goes before us to prepare hearts and souls. He goes behind us to keep us in safekeeping. Praise God sister.       I am delighted that so many liked my baby birds hatching true story from my childhood for I almost did not share it for fear all would think it silly. Yes, I knew in my heart as a small child, that it was a special blessing just for me from the Lord.

      I think what I liked best however, is this is such a positive take on sharing our joy and faith. A lot of the time it can be seen as a duty of fear but you portray it as a privilege of faith. It's a refreshing attitude. I look forward to reading more of your work.

      Like many others, I've been through some low points in my life, but I never once lost my faith that God would take care of my problems. He always has. I sleep soundly at night after I end my prayer with "thy will be done".

      Thank you for taking the time to reread and comment here, that means a lot to me. That's happened to me before, and sometimes I will read on my phone and wait until I arrive home to share, and then realize later I did not comment as I thought.

      I appreciate your kind comments as always. Yes, God has been so faithful to heal me and blessed me in countless ways throughout my life. I do love to boast in Him and tell of His many miracles and mercies in my life. I almost did not share about my little bird miracle story from my childhood here, but am glad I did because it lends itself to understanding childlike faith and I have never forgotten about it.

      This was a fun project to participate in, and I am so glad the baton was passed to me to get me into gear in publishing. I am mindful that I am going to need to get publishing once again to deserve such an award. There are so many deserving. Thank you for the congrats again.

      Hi Faith--I decided several years back that people can be reached with novels, more so that non fiction that may preach etc. The children's series is going to do wonderful things for its young readers. "Christian" is never mentioned, however the values are there. Early readers are picking up on it and reviews indicate that it will influence many. FAV for this wonderful article.
