Finding Success in This World

Updated on May 18, 2015

What is success to you?

Defining success can come in multiple ways depending on who you are speaking to. I am sure that Donald Trump's idea of success is much different than a homeless person's idea of success.

The on-line dictionary defines success as:

  1. The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted.
  2. The gaining of fame or prosperity.

Personally, I will agree with #1, but #2 doesn't go in my opinion.

I have more respect for the guy that lost everything trying to reach a goal, than I do for the person that had everything handed to them from a deceased relative.

I am also of the opinion that success is never fully achieved. We can never reach total success because new goals and objectives should always be set when you have attained or failed others. I guess the only time a person will achieve total success is when they decide to commit suicide and they carry it out. I guess you could call that total success; a success I never want to have, and I hope no one else who is reading this.

When you do a Google search for success, you will find an enormous amount of material. There are books upon books on being successful. You can read and read and read on success. You may find yourself reading so much about success, that you will never go out and seek success.

In the next phase of this hub, I will explain what I believe are some of the attributes you need to have and use to enjoy some success in life. I am no expert. I don't have a degree in psychology, sociology or any other ology. I am just a man that is also seeking success. I believe I have found some success and I have also failed at attempted successes.

One of the successes that I have found is a goal that I have had for years: publishing books. You can find some of those books in Amazon links throughout this hub.

I believe these tips are what helped me and they can help you.

The year is 2080 and the world is in peril. Come with the last surviving golden coqui and his followers to see if they can save it all.

Set Goals and Objectives

You know what you want to do. You know what you want to attain. How do you go about it?

Take a pen and paper and list the goal or goals you want to attain. Now below each goal, write what you need to do to reach it. This may take some research.

By putting everything on paper, you will also put the steps in your brain. Start small and work towards your goal. Find the steps that will lead you to the prize. There may be failures and changes you need to make along the way, but by putting it down on paper, you will give yourself a map to reach your destination.

Most goals you want to reach need the help of other individuals or companies. You need to be able to communicate with other people.

Are you afraid to talk to other people? Get over it!

You need to communicate, so if you must, take some communication courses. There are many communication programs available.

When I say to gamble, I do not mean to take your money and run to the nearest casino.

You do need to take chances. Try something and if it doesn't work, try something new.

The person who doesn't try will never reach what they are trying to attain.

Most Importantly

The most important part of reaching success is God.

I will have atheists arguing that point, I am sure. Let me just say, this is the way I have found some success.

By putting Jesus first, success just seems to follow. It may not be the world's idea of success, but I sure feel successful knowing God is on my side and Jesus is carrying me through.

Here are a few success quotes that fit:

God may allow His servant to succeed when He has disciplined him to a point where he does not need to succeed to be happy. The man who is elated by success and is cast down by failure is still a carnal man. At best his fruit will have a worm in it.--A.W. Tozer

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.--Albert Schweitzer

1 Samuel 18:14

”He had great success in everything he did because the Lord was with him.”

I wish you all great success. May God be with you!
