Giant Shark Megalodon Facts and Myths

Updated on August 5, 2013

Giant Shark Megalodon

The Megalodons are prehistoric giant sharks. They were huge and ferocious. Megalodon, the giant sharks were the terror of the oceans and seas. No sea animals were safe from this mega predators There jaws were armed with strong and sharp teeth. There teeth could chew the bones and crush the skull of a large whale. Yes, even the whales were their favorite haunts. .

What the hell is a Megalodon?

Megalodon is nothing but an obscenely large shark. A Megalodon could be much bigger than your ordinary great white sharks. They are nothing but rats to them.

How big was a Megalodon?

Mr.Don aka Megalodon had a very big tummy. He used to be 40 to 60 ft in length. He had big teeth, as large as 7 inches long.

What is meant by “Megalodon”?

I don’t know. No, it was a joke…the term “Megalodon” means “Giant Teeth”.

How many wings did a Megalodon have?

Do you think Megalodon is a bird or are you kidding with me? I am not going to tell you anymore.

Err...Sorry my English is a bit weak it would be “fins” not “wings”. How many fins did Megalodons....?

Hmmm.. let me count..There is a pair of pectoral fins and pelvic fins, a pair of dorsal fins, an anal fin and the tail. Did you count?

Yes, twelve. Did the Chinese liked to eat the soup of Megalodon fins?

Sometimes, I wonder that are you pretending to be an idiot or are you really a jerk? The Megalodon was existed 1.5 million years ago during the Cenozoic era and then there were no Chinese. I hope, it would register some sense in your fat head.

Do you want to mean that Megalodon is extinct now?

Yes, Megalodons are no more. But they have their genetic presence in the Great White Sharks.

But, there are numerous reports of Megalodon sightings?

Yes, I have also hard many such reports. But there is no solid evidence of it that they still exist. You can see many such photos and videos in the internet but all of these are, probably, nothing but hoax. But, the oceans are huge. Most of the parts of the big oceans are beyond our reach still today. So, we cannot say it firmly that the Megalodon is no more. May be, they have migrated to the deepest depths of the oceans and evolved to survive in those super cool, super heavy, dark waters.

Could Megalodon break a sheet of steel with his biting?

It depends upon the thickness of the steel. The bite force of a Megalodon jaw was as much as 18 tons per square inch, enough for breaking through even one or two inches thick sheet of steel.

Oh my God, how horrible

Don’t worry, no Megalodon could do anything to you. It is beyond the power of any Megalo or Gigalodon to chew your thick head, nothing can penetrate it.

Was Megalodon a super predator?

Yes, they were some kind of super predator. They ruled the oceans. The Megalodon knew no fear because there were none above him. He had a huge structure, high speed swimming capability and the strongest jaw. They even haunted big whales.

How did they kill big whales? Were not they formidable too?

Yes, big whales are not very easy to haunt. But they were no match to the agility and the destructive jaw of this gigantic shark. Megalodon attacked the tough bony portions of the whale and crushed the bones by raw force. Often they crushed the rib cage of the whales resulting immobility and death of the Leviathan.

If they were so formidable then why Megalodon is extinct today?

There may be many reasons behind the extinction of the Megalodon. The Megalodon was strong but they did not live in cold water. With the coming of the ice age, the temperature of the oceans was dropped very low. The Megalodon did not adapt well with it like many other big animals. Most of the tropical sea animals and fishes were not also able to adapt with the cooler oceans. They perished and as a result the big Megalodon was without food. Ultimately, they were finished by the nature itself.

How it would be if the Megalodon was still present today?

Probably, if they were in sufficient numbers, human civilization was hampered a bit. It would be very, very difficult to cross the oceans using wooden ships. The big Megalodon could bite the bottom of the ships to sink it. There would be the conflict between the two super predators, the Megalodons and us.

Who would win?

Why? We have such thick headed heroes like you whom no Megalodon could do nothing. Megalodons had strength but no wit and we have intelligence. They would be no match to us.
