Updated on September 11, 2015

China

The Great Wall in China is an interesting work of art in itself. This hub is to show you some interesting facts about the Great Wall. These facts may not come in useful for anything, but they are neat to know. Maybe you'll be on Jeopardy someday, and one of these questions will arise.

Sit back, scroll down, and let us take a trip to China.

The Great Leap

In 2003 Wang Jiaxiong attempted to jump his bicycle over the Great Wall but fell to his death.

2005 brought another daredevil to the challenge. Danny Way from California became the first person ever to jump the Great Wall. He did it on a skateboard. This video will show you how he did it.

Disappearing

You wouldn't know it by looking at most pictures, but there is only about 1/3rd of the Great Wall left.

In the 1950's,China's leader,Mao Zedong allowed peasants to take bricks from the wall to build homes and other buildings.

Super Highway

The walls main use was a roadway for people through the mountains. It would have taken a person months to get somewhere if not for the Great Wall.

Dead Mortar

The Great Wall was built by many slaves and prisoners of war. When there were deaths they just put the bodies in the mortar.

China's Great Wall is the longest cemetary there is.

Space

From orbit over the Earth the Great Wall is visible. This is a picture from a NASA satellite.

Here is the link.

Did you learn anything new and interesting?

China and the Great Wall are very interesting subjects.

Hope you enjoyed!

LOL @ TiTi. You believe in re-incarnation. Also, this "Historical landmark" is a 4,000 mile cemetery filled with former slaves forced to build this Not so great wall. It's nice to look at, but it represents pain, suffering and death.
