A brief photo record of old Hong Kong, 1946, from the personal photographs of my grandfather, Lieutenant Joseph Liam Guerin, of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Brown Ranger. He served in the Brown Ranger through the closing stages of the War in the Pacific, and accompanied her into Shanghai in late 1945 and Hong Kong in 1946. These photographs record his stay there and focus on the city itself, Kowloon, and some of the key sights of the time, including the now-demolished Japanese war memorial or "Pagoda of Loyal Spirits" between Mount Cameron and the Peak.
There is a companion page which focuses on my Grandfather's shipmates and crew, and the other ships with which they came into contact.
