I’ll Stop Mincing Words

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Our world is screwed from every perspective. We are corrupt, selfish beings and our greed has brought our planet to its knees. We plunder, disrespect life and do anything we please in the belief we are superior to all forms of life on earth. We may have developed cultures and technologies of worth but we as a race are foolish and unevolved.

Since the beginning of time we have fought over every commodity, resource and square foot of land; we are oppressive, cruel and self-involved. Greed has become our human motto and what we have become as a result, is beings without compassion, empathy or purpose. Greed has separated us, in competition with one another and us.

Those little shells with holes in them used to trade and share the wealth of the earth has become the very reason for existence. Money is not evil, simply our perceptions of it. This means to an end has become the motivation for life; an absurdity.

Religion is the cause of much suffering in the world. Not spirituality or morality or ethics represents religion. Religion is a man-made idea, contrived by man and associated with a concept of an omniscient being, our creator. All modern religions were created to control the general populace, by governing and dictating culture and actions. These dogmatic ideologies create segregation and conflict in the name of a deity. How absurd is that?

Regardless of race, culture, religion or any other chosen ideology, human beings are all the same, with the same fundamental needs and wants. Segregation exists because of fear fed to us by corrupt institutions who gain from the contention. We, the people of the world are pawns to those in control and sit back and let it all happen. Apathy has created a status quo of degradation of all we have come to take for granted, to expect and enjoy.

It’s time to pay the piper. As it’s all crashing down around us, we can look back and realise how truly lazy and dysfunctional we are. ‘Out of sight, out of mind’ has become the reality. It’s so easy to sit in our comfy chairs and watch the world tear itself apart, watch people suffering unimaginable grief and pain, watch countless wars and conflicts in the name of some purposeless ideal.

When will human beings take responsibility for our collective actions, understanding that we are all the cause of the problems? If indeed thoughts creates our environment as I believe, how screwed up is our thinking? How evil we are as a race, and how deserved we are to be eradicated from this paradise of earth.

With our limited but considerable intellect you would think that peace would be our priority; fulfilling the needs of our earthly inhabitants with food, shelter, healthcare and security. What we have created is global inequities that have segregated us in class with millions suffering from lack of resources, food, water and basic healthcare, with no way to survive.

This is bullshit! If you’re worried about the future, you should be- because without change there isn’t any. If we remain in our comfy seats and continue this masquerade of denial, we are headed for destruction, and sooner than later. Nature has always been our guide in the unfolding and propagation of life, and we have for too long ignored it completely. In fact we have gone against nature with arrogant disregard.

Prayer is a useful and affective tool. Not praying to God; that implies a shift in responsibility. Our saving will only come from us. Praying for what we want is an affective form of affirmation, instilling our desire for peace and prosperity. On mass this action has an affect and we need to join this wave of change, a new attitude to begin the process of renewal.

Religion is not the answer, nor is any political belief or single ideology. We need to trust in the potential of humanity. Not what we’ve done, but what we could achieve. That is where our minds should be, focussing on an internal change that could transform us as individuals and then collectively as the human race. There is no time to lose.

Thanks Phil, it is like bashing your head against a wall, but we have to hold on to hope, otherwise what's the point.

I don't know that there is much to be done about it. The people who are in positions of authority or power are keen to keep the status quo, to stay in those positions of power and authority. As such, they will not want to change anything. A politician is more interested in getting reelected than in making difficult decisions that are necessary, but that will hurt their political future. Good luck.

Thankd Clarke. There is always hope and the first step is realising the fault in ourselves. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks crackers10. Everything is fixable, it's a matter of what will make people realise what needs to be done. I fear that crisis is looming. Thanks for your comment.

We have turned into selfish, greedy people who care about nothing but the comfort and convenience of our lives and no one elses. How do you fix that? Is that even fixable?

Great hub, Tony! The world's a mess and there's plenty to be mad about. And there's always some power group spinning a false narrative, to influence the rest of us. But I'm not sure we can wish away fear and greed from ourselves. It's part of our makeup, and seems to be what keeps us moving. Now if we could only direct it to The Good, now that would be something.
