Importance of Education to Nations
Education is a vital investment for human, economic and capital development in any nation - Professor Bamitale Omole
Importance of Education
What are the relevance of education to the society?
Is education of any importance or benefit to nations or the world? Before the introduction of education, much research has been carried out on its value. Some nations would not have attained the level of development they settle at without education of any kind. I wonder how developed countries in Europe would have been without sound education. It is eye opener and beginning of success to all nations. Education is like a mirror through which nations see their images. Do you think Spain would have been so good today without education? How do you think Great Britain will be without education? In the past years, Britain came to Nigeria and colonized the country and they rule Nigeria for many years. These colonial masters to Nigeria discovered crude oil in the country and transported it to their country for refining and use. After some years, Nigeria gained independence from the Britain. Nigeria was independent from them in the year 1960. Britain used the petroleum they discovered in Nigeria for building of their nation and also sold to other countries. They were able to know that crude oil existed in Nigeria because they were educated. Nigeria did not know there was anything like crude oil in their country because there was no education in the country during those days. Some importance of education to nations includes technological growth, crime reduction, agricultural improvement, health improvement, good leadership, industrialization and easy life.
Nations have attained great mark in technology because education opened their eyes and made them reason in diverse angles for the betterment of lives. Technology is taught to students in school where they go and learn great technical skills. The automobiles, computers, electrical appliances and other products of technology are made possible in life of today because of education. Education standard improves from day-to-day and the more it improves, the more growth we have in technology. The kind of cars in use in the present world is not the same with those used in 1990s because there is improvement in education. Technological growth started in Africa since the advent of education. It is good evidence that show the importance of education to technological growth is not just a 'tall story'. Students are taught how to reason critically in schools. This brings about the advancement in use of resources around us to produce good things. It is good to point out the person that discovered one of the most popular social media network called
Little Overview on how Education helped in Facebook Discovery
Who discovered the Facebook? Where did he start the discovery? Mark Zuckerberg discovered Facebook and it started when he was in Harvard University. Today, many people are able to get their problems solved with the discovery made by this young man. He learnt this when he was in the university and that is one typical power of education. This is an example of how education can help in technological growth. The discovery of this youth has really console many Americans. Recently, he gave about 99% of his wealth to charity.
Education and Crime Reduction
Crime Reduction and Employment
This is another importance of education to nations. How can education reduce crime? A reader of this article may be confused when the introductory part of this page included 'crime reduction' as one of the educational importance to nations. People separate themselves from crime because they were taught the consequences of any committed crime.
These punishments of any offense make many to avoid anything that will lead them into crime. Again, with education, people learn to be disciplined and say no to any kind of crime. Education provides employment for the masses. Any person who is employed and paid well in return will not have the time to start thinking of one crime he will commit or the other to make money. Based on observations, countries that are more educated have less crime rates when compared with undereducated ones.
An educated fellow is occupied with things of value in any society that there are opportunities for good jobs. His minds are always occupied with the ideas of what to do to get better results in his job. This makes him to think less of crime. But for most uneducated persons, it is not always the case. Most of them are idle and with time their minds are filled with dirty thoughts which push them into criminal activities.
The uneducated fellows become threat to their society and result to unrest tool to their communities. Most illiterates promote crime in their nations. Education is good, be it formal or informal and it helps nations that are organized and economically sound have lesser crime rate.
Education helps people have opportunities to have good places to work. Gaining jobs is important and education has made this possible. For example, there are many people that work in institutions of higher learning and education gives them such opportunities.
Also, there are many people that work in other places and they are able to gain such jobs because of education. In some developed countries, people that are educated earn more than the uneducated. It's not headline news that educational attainment is highly correlated with income: College graduates typically earn more than less-educated Americans (Michael Greenstone & Adam Looney 2012).
Agricultural improvement is attainable with education. Education has lead to great improvement in the yield of agricultural products. It is through education that crossbreeding was introduced to enhance the yield and varieties of agricultural products. It is of no doubt that crossbreeding of crops has made many types of fruits available to the masses.
It is in institutions of learning that students are taught how to crossbreed. Again, it was through educational research on plants that crossbreeding came to existence. Today, people make choice on the kind of crossbreed crops they want to eat in order to promote their health. Nations have varieties of plants at their reach and feed the masses with crops which are products of crossbreed.
The kind of farming tools that were used long time ago for farming is entirely different. Which kind of agricultural tools were used in 500BC? Can you compare those tools with those one used in the modern world? Education made people to reason beyond and start manufacturing machines for farming instead of making use of crude materials or human labor. With the help of newly produced machines, people can practice farming with less stress. This makes food to be available to nations and surpluses remain in return.
There are many agricultural scientists that are working tirelessly on daily basis to discover new development in agricultural sector. They are busy working with sophisticated machines that are well produced. These machines are into existence today because education has opened the eyes of many people to good things. The machines are product of education that came with civilization. When new discoveries are made with the help of the sophisticated machines, the information is passed to farmers which make agricultural practice better and lead to the development of the sector.
Education improves the health status of people. How many medical doctors do we have when there was no place where people are taught how to read, write and effect positive changes? The author asked the question because he is sure that popularity of medical doctors is as a result of education. Medical doctors who are its product promote health of people by prescribing suitable drugs for patients.
What of the drug sold to the sick? The pharmacists are the people that produce drugs and they were taught how to produce these helpful solids and liquids in their colleges and universities. A person who feels as if his head wants to burst can become normal within few seconds with the aid of suitable drugs. The citizens of nations live healthy because of medical doctors and pharmacists who were made through education. If you remove education from nations, the nations become nothing but empty vessels. The advanced medical instruments used in hospitals are as a result of how students are taught to go into good and improved production. This teaching results to user-friendly equipment of which that even a layman can make use of them. The newly invented automated blood pressure monitor can easily be used than the analogue one.
When people are educated on one thing or the other, they are taught something new or what have been into existence. Education passes basic information to people on how to do one thing or the other. With education, doctors have taught patients on how to use some medical equipment even in their absence and at the point of emergency. Education has influenced medical sector greatly.
Education teaches people on how to be good leaders in their individual societies. Many leadership programs are offered in many institutions of learning. These are also included in course outline of some departments and taken as one of the most serious part of the semester courses. Be informed that any student that learns and practices what he is taught on leadership skill will take his or her country to higher level when voted into leadership position.
The governor of Anambra state, Nigeria, in 2013 (Governor Peter Obi) did well during his tenure because he was educated. Before he assumed his leadership position, he charged the former governor to court because the former rigged his way into the position he was occupying. Peter Obi won at the end, did what people did not believe would be possible and became the governor of Anambra state of Nigeria. He improved many sectors as a governor because he was trained educationally on how to lead his people well.
How do you think any leader can exchange information with people from other countries when he is not educated? How do you think he can learn new leadership skill when he is called for conference without education? In fact, education is needed for good leadership in every nation.
Education and Industrial Growth
There is growth in industrialization because of education. This is the good handiwork of the teaching given to students from various parts of the world and the industrial sector would not have achieved this great result without the learning.
Many nations make good profits from the goods produced by their industrial sector and use them in their national building. People are able to work in these industries because they were educated on how to operate industrial machines. It is through the trainings given to these people that make them to operate the machines effectively and have huge yield in return.
What of the proportion of chemicals that are mixed in these industries before the desired products are obtained? Where and how these industrial workers did learn how to proportionally add them? The answers are in no other place but in education. No nation can attain great industrial development without education. The fact remains that the growth of industrial sector of any country will begin when education is embraced. India is becoming centre of attraction to many people today in terms of technology because it is becoming education hub to many students currently.
People live and enjoy life because of education. Do you think I lied? I will give a typical example with the life of Alexander Graham Bell, who invented telephone. Bell began to think of how to invent what people can use to communicate to one another even when they are from far positions.
He was a student when he began this thinking. Education sharpened his mentality and that was why he thought in that direction. Telephone reduces stress of transporting from one car to another in order to pass information across. People can be in Congo and easily send information to somebody in China within few seconds with the help of telephone call.
This is the information that can be conveyed in two to three days now made successful within few seconds. Medium of transportation is made possible with the help of training obtained in schools. People now fly through the air to another country because of education. It is through education that people were taught how to manufacture planes and other machines that transport people through the air.
Knowledge Transfer and Development
In life, there are people that know more than you and there are those you know more than. We are like departments that make up a faculty. Where your knowledge stops can be where that of another person begins. People have different ideas inside their heads.
Education has create an avenue for people to transfer their knowledge to the other. It gives people room to teach others what they do not know or have less knowledge on. With the help of education, group of people from different parts of the world are brought together for the aim of knowledge transfer and deposition.
When students are in schools, their knowledge about certain areas of interest are broaden through the teaching they receive. The knowledge are developed by these students and many apply them to make their nations better. At institutions of higher learning, students gain the tools to discover and evaluate facts, test theories and deepen their understanding of themselves and the world (Grant Cornwell 2018).
In conclusion, the importance of education to nations has been properly discussed on this page. It is fundamental to know that the importance of education to nations are many, but these are among the series. Finally, its importance to nations as conveyed in this write-up are technological growth, crime reduction, improvement in agriculture, healthy leadership, good industrial growth, improved health status of nations, invention, and knowledge transfer.
