In response to "Science vs Religion; The ultimate showdown of human origin?
Order in Creation (Fibonacci)
Phocas Vincent asked
Is it possible to truly be religious as well as believe in the evidence of science with theories such as evolution, the Big Bang and dinosaurs existing prior to man not alongside?
(Please keep it clean and civil guys, thank you.)
Where should we look for the answers?
It definitely depends on what religion you are referring to, and what aspects of evolution theories you are referring to.
If you believe that the Bible is the word of God, Does it make sense that God's word would be able to tell us where we come from, where we are, and where we are going? Would not true science actually prove the Bible and harmonizes with it?
Who would know best about how life was created than the creator? No human was there, so whether you believe in the Bible or not, we all must put our faith in something.
The large Hedron Collider experiment actually found proof that there is order to this universe. It is not a chaotic place where things just happen by accident. Watch the documentary called particle fever if you get a chance. I have included a trailer below. It may still be on Netflix.
What makes more sense? that this beautiful universe full of order came about by accident or through intelligent design? Look at the way things grow, there are definite patterns. Fibonacci and others actually found a pattern and put it in numbers. See pictures on the side of this hub. This order is the reason we can make music and also the reason we can fly planes. If the laws that God created for the universe were not dependable, none of this would be possible.
Why should we believe that life came from nothing? Some big bang with no purpose? To illustrate: If you were walking through the woods and found a beautiful log cabin, would you marvel and say "wow I guess the trees chopped themselves and arranged themselves just so" or would you marvel at the craftsmanship.
Even evolutionist theorists do not agree on all aspects of the so called "evolution theory", so why do they teach it like it's a fact? and why should we accept it as so?
Did life come from nothing? We have never been able to create life from nothing. No matter how hard scientists have tried they cannot create even a flower. The only thing they have been able to create has needed some form of life to assist the experiment first. Life can only come from preexisting life according to all science experiments.
Many say that the Bible says that everything was made in six days. How long did the creative period really last? Each of the six creative days/periods could have lasted an unspecified length of time, not 24hour literal days. The Bible sometimes uses days to mean other lengths of time. For example, when summarizing God’s creative work, Moses refers to all
six creative days as one day. (Genesis2:4)
Is the Bible Scientifically Accurate?
Although, the Bible is not a science book, when the Bible does touch on science it is accurate. Here are a few examples of how accurate the Bible is when it touches on science:
- "“He stretches out the northern sky over empty space, suspending the earth upon nothing.”"Job 26:7
Also consider that this was written in a time when people thought that the earth sat on top of giant tortoise. We didn't even have confirmation of the fact that the earth hung on nothing until the first pictures from space.
- "“All the streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is not full. To the place from which the streams flow, there they return so as to flow again.”" Ecclesiastes 1:7
This is an accurate description of the water cycle in Ancient times.
- "“There is One who dwells above the circle of the earth.”" Isaiah 40:22
The earth was believed to be flat until recently considering how long humans have been on the scene.
- Life can only come from preexisting life
“With you [God] is the source of life.”—Psalm 36:9.
- The Hedron Collider experiment led to proof that this universe is organized and not chaotic. We know that plants and animal life are organized according to their kind (Genesis 1:11, 12, 21, 24, 25)
Genesis 1:12 And the earth began to produce grass, seed-bearing plants+ and trees yielding fruit along with seed, according to their kinds. Then God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:21 And God created the great sea creatures* and all living creatures* that move and swarm in the waters according to their kinds and every winged flying creature according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
The Bible does say there are boundaries to these “kinds.” Allowing for a degree of variation within each kind.
- God created humans with the capability to display Godly qualities, such as: Love, justice, etc.
“God said: ‘Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness.’”—Genesis 1:26.
What the Bible says
Notice what the Bible says:
"“Of course, every house is constructed by someone, but the one who constructed all things is God.”"
"“Lift up your eyes to heaven and see. Who has created these things? It is the One who brings out their army by number; he calls them all by name. Because of his vast dynamic energy and his awe-inspiring power, not one of them is missing.”"
