LIVING IN INTEGRITY WITH OUR PLANET
Being the change that you want to see........
MY NOTORIOUS PAST................
Together we change the world
As we change our footprint and begin to tread lightly on this the only planet of choice, we begin to take our rightful positions as Guardians.............
Excited at all the new ways we can move forward to a new way, new life on this abundant planet. Choosing to make a difference in what ever way I can and be able to live, love and work in integrity with our positions as Guardians of this planet
Ten years ago I was one of the first group of people to attend a two year HND in Sustainable Environments at Otley Agricultural Colleged..
This was pretty revolutionary at the time and proved to be not only a course with organised projects appropriate to our HND qualification but became a very lively forum for new ideas.
Having completed the course I put out to the Universe for some way of putting more of these ideas into effect and ……was promptly handed a Windmill at Billingford with an old smithy and substantial gardens.
My vision was to mill only English Organic Wheat which many people at the time including the locals said would be impossible. Nearly all the bread in our shops comes from Canadian wheat, our English wheat being low in gluten and thought to be unsuitable for bread making Not so, together with a team of volunteer workers I was able to get the Mill going again – It had been renovated before I arrived. The first 100% organic wholewheat English Loaf hit the shelves in my organic shop and café and the Billingford loaf was born! I had got together with a young local baker who came up with the unique recipe for the loaf. Delia Smith (famous author of cookery books) was later to serve my wonderful “billingford loaf” together with the award winning Cromer crab at her Carrow road restaurant on the night of the Norfolk Good food awards. During the first summer I was selling 250 loaves a week from the shop in the smithy and had turned half of the shop into a completely Organic Café called Treading Softly Café.
Many local people in the UK will know the rest of the Billingford Mill saga as the Norfolk County Council who are not known for supporting inspiring local projects decided that they would close me down unless I agreed to pay for all the repairs on the mill which they owned. During the four years I spent at Billingford I gave thousands of people a full guided tour of the mill, sometimes whilst we were actually milling the wheat but as the Council knew well, there would be no way I could pay for the repairs to the mill that was run Norfolk Windmill trust through donations etc. which may have run into thousands if the weather had damaged the sails.
I decided that I would never live with myself if I did not make a stand for truth and justice and spent the next two years fighting a very public battle both on TV and in all the newspapers. Synchronicity lent its hand perfectly by giving me an unexpected inheritance of quite a few thousand pounds six months into the court case. This money came in handy to hold my ground at Billingford and carry on running the Organic Cafe and came from a lady who died at the great old age of 92 who I had previously had as a client at my healing and therapy practice. Needless to say, the case was eventually lost but not until I had unravelled a lot of illusions about justice in our courts in the UK!
C’est La Vie – what an adventure to have had. There are not many things in this life left that can give you that sort of thrill – milling through the night when the wind was high and have the satisfaction of watching the sacks fill up with the glorious quality of food we were supplying to the locals.
My passion for herbs was also fulfilled at Billingford when I decided to grow organic herbs to sell and helped coppice the hazel and willow ready to build a natural polytunnel made bender style approximately 30’ long. I had designed this with a domed far end and grew amazing organic melons and organic lemon grass and chillie peppers in the ground and hundreds of herbs in pots lined the freshly cut wooden shelves.
My history further back in sustainability is having spent four years working with a group of people called “The Land is Ours” formed originally by George Monbiot (Well known author on globalisation and writer now at the Guardian) and Simon Fairley (author of Low Impact Sustainable Living and founder member with George Monbiot of the first sustainable project “Tinkers Bubble” to receive retrospective temporary planning permission – having been spotted by air when they had been living in their low impact dwellings for years!) “The Land is Ours” was a protest group for saving the land and I served as co-ordinator around the Suffolk area for a couple of years. Fighting such projects as saving the water meadows in Bury St. Edmunds and attempting to save the land around the DavidRiceHospital site in Norwich.
Living on the land in benders, tents and our wonderful very large yurt gave us the true benefits of harmonised energies – living in a circular area, close to the earth with no artificial fabric energies and no electrical ring main. There is something really exciting and raw about getting up at 4 am putting on dark clothes and driving to a field of Gentically Modified crops and pulling them up and working and watching over the next 8 hours as the area is transformed with natural growth of plants, shrubs and pathways by a group of people who care about the future of the planet and the people living on her.
Before this I was one of the founder members of the Sudbury Suffolk Friends of the Earth Group. One of our famous projects was creating a “Skunk of the year” competition and running a wonderful town fair where we announced the worst polluting company in our area. Needless to say they did not attend to receive the award!! But we had fun dancing to local music and buying local produce.
At this time over 25 years ago I opened and ran the local Wholefood store and first vegetarian restaurant in our area. After a few years I converted the three story building I was renting to also contain one of the first crystal shops and healing centres and the Phoenix centre for Intuitive Living was born.

Walk Away From the old and Create the New
My past has been exciting and meaningful and crossed paths with many of our authoritarian institutions which are based on a bad set of rules and usually no ethics of any note. In order to live in integrity with ourselves and our planet we need to walk away from the old and create the new with a boldness and courage.
I see my mission now as working with waking people up and helping to raise their level of consciousness since nothing will change until we achieve this renaissance. Telling people what is right does not work, the heart and higher levels need to be opened before the realisation occurs.
Misuse of energy is a major flaw on our planet at this time, we need to rethink and establish new boundaries for how we treat this planet, ourselves and all other fellow travellers on our adventure on Planet Earth.
