How Significant is Education?

Updated on December 15, 2008

Education is gaining the knowledge and skills that will help us survive and be independent when one day we will have to stand on our own feet. With the downturn of economy a lot of jobs has been lost and with this we keep thinking where are we going next. The truth is, it is scary when companies starts laying off workers because with no doubt in the managers mind the rank and file employees goes out of the door first. With heavy hearts and broken spirit, a jobless person walks thinking over and over again where did he go wrong. As we come to process our thoughts, have we took some time to pause and think how much education we have in preparation for our life? Have you really invested to studying in gaining lifelong skills?

Education is a useful and necessary tool that will surely help us in this constantly changing world where we live. I don't have any material thing in this world that I can be proud of. My parents did not leave me a fortune and not even a single cent but I am grateful my widowed mom has supported me to the best of her ability that I can finish my studies. I am grateful for the treasure that she had helped me acquire. This legacy that no man can take away from me.

When I was young I was really enthusiastic about learning. I have this thirst to learn that never seem to be quenched. Learning has always been a wonderful and amazing feeling for me. For sure my teachers were able to light up the spark of curiosity in my young mind. They had motivated me well to be courageous enough to open every single door of opportunity. I read and read books with an oil lamp. I have to watch TV in our neighbor's house. The library became my bestfriend. I really love to study and learn. With so much passion to learning for life I kept going. After high school when most of my friends started working I pursued to becoming an educator. Who would have thought I can be one? The love to learn each new day made me stay within the portals of the learning institution. My desire to learn has proved me to the whole world that poverty is not a hindrance to success.

Ones philosophy in life is a significant blueprint to our goals because it serves as our guiding light in pursuing our career to educate with so much enthusiasm and respect of the people around us no matter what color, gender, size and shape they may be. Our students should be the center of our goals and objectives to give us focus, meaning and understanding. We should act as educators not dictators as we reach out to their needs, abilities and interests. We should give them a good chance to be responsible decision makers and to be active participants in the class. Providing stimulating environments to students help them learn by discovery and exploration. It is good to facilitate the learning process as we give them the freedom to touch manipualtives and visual aids. Working collaboratively is modern time- tested method effective enough in working with peers. Showing respect as they come across varied peers that they socially encounter.

Life has its own ups and downs but why worry? When you have invested on something that no man can take away from you- our education. We no longer need to worry about life when from the very beginning we have laid out our philosophies and from there work on our education because in this we build one solid future. We should work hard because the secret to success is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. For sure, every endeavor will be rewarded well.

Education is very precious in the life of a person. With good education, the person can go very far, but without education, opportunity stops abruptly. So continue to pursue education to the best of your ability.
