My Realization Of Inflation: A Key Look Into America's Economic Struggle

Updated on August 16, 2014

How To Cope With A Job You Hate While Enduring Inflation

As I approached the counter I was greeted by a young woman who seemed as if it was the worse day of her life. I have to sympathize with her because the job force is modern day enslavement. Eight to Twelve hour work days, six to seven days a week, being told when to come in, when to leave, when to take a break, and how much you will be earning. Not to mention time away from your loved ones.

I placed each item on the counter, as she placed each value in the register. After each item was checked out, I was flabbergasted at the price. $30 bucks for five little items. A few years ago that would have cost me no more than $15 bucks. Two percent inflation, I think not. Their goes trying to bring sexy back on a budget!

Defining Inflation In The Concepts Of Reality

On the beautiful morning of Saturday August 2, 2014, I decided to help the wife out by driving to the store and picking up a few items she had requested. Out of my local store options, I decided on Walgreens and "The New Walmart": Dollar General. Arriving to Walgreens, I stepped out of car and proceeded into the store. I sauntered down the first isle, on my way to the men section. I selected a few items after carefully comparing each brand. My selection list included: Nivea Post Shave Balm, Neutrogena Facial Wash, Listerine to keep the breath super fresh, Axe deodorant, and Chap Stick.

Shopping Cheap: Inflation On A Budget

Onto the next one; Dollar General here I come! Arriving at Dollar General my immediate thought was, gosh they need to fix these pot holes. I walked inside the store, and headed straight to the snack section. I can't help it, Low-Carb diets tempt my sugar cravings. I've been good all week, so I can live a little. Strawberry Shortcake Rolls, and Reese's Pieces were calling my name, so I decided to be a Pillsbury Doughboy for the day. Aside from my snacks I bought: two Lipton Green Teas, 24 pack of water, two V8 Tropical Blends, four Powerades, two Welch's Cherry Juices, and one bag of Flavor Mix chips.

Dollar General Aftermath

I pulled up to the cash register in my snack-mo-basket, and started unloading my precious (Spiegel Lord of The Rings voice). After the clerk totaled everything up, it was a whopping $50 bucks, now that's insane. Imagine if you were unemployed or your spouse lost their job. How hard would it be just to eat, not to mention, rent/mortgage, car note, gas, insurance, and other basic necessities of life. These are things we do not ponder upon until it is too late to change the course.

Inflation Effects Upon The Job Market

What about job security? The days are gone when it was frequent to hold a job thirty plus years; after Detroit, that's just not the case anymore. U.S. Corporations are relocating overseas, what does that actually mean for American citizens and the economy? Well for starters, no more jobs for American citizens, and no more capital gains taxes for the U.S. Corporate government. If there are less jobs here in America, what will be the result?

Top 7 Results Of Inflation

Understanding Inflation - Milton Friedman

How Is Inflation Defined?

The rate at which the general level of prices for goods and services is rising, and, subsequently, purchasing power is falling. Central banks attempt to stop severe inflation, along with severe deflation, in an attempt to keep the excessive growth of prices to a minimum.

America: The Modern Dark Ages Of Europe

The constant decline of America's hard working middle class and lower-middle class is already happening right before our eyes. It is my deepest concern and thought that this country is on the path to the Dark Ages of Europe. Through my personal realization of inflation, I find it more complex to finance my monthly obligations with less money to save and invest. With inflation growing rapidly, government arguing amongst themselves, and the dollar losing it's reserve status our days could be numbered.

John Maynard Keynes Quote On Inflation

"By a continuing process of inflation, government can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, and important part of the wealth of their citizens".

The Late Great John Maynard Keynes
