Spread of Education in the 19th Century.

It was East India Company that decided to educate we Indians with their policy of Inducting the Western Culture among we Indians. It was of course English.

Compulsory Primary Education.

This was a dream of not our present day or just previous stupid ministers but giants in Indian Primary Education to be made compulsory. The most First Indian was Mahatma Jotirao Phule who was well ahead of his time submitting his proposal which is as recent as 1882. He pleaded even female education on large scale.Spread of education in rural areas and education for minority Muslims. The Grand Old man of India Dadabhai Navoroji  was another Indian to join this plea.

The Princely State of Baroda was the first state in India to implement compulsory primary education in the year 1905.

Next was the Princely State of Mysore under Dewan Sir.M.Visweswaraih elementary schools were started in the year 1913.The literate population was just 6% at that time which went up threefold with in 3 years.

Gopal Krishna Gokhale had a vision of universalized primary education through out the length and breadth of India. He was of the view that if the farmer is educated we could increase his earning capacity and take interest in public life a monopoly of a minority. However the politics of the minority never allowed the farmer to get educated.

In the Year 1937 it was our father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi  proposed Basic Education System so as to make the children of India to develop their mental faculties.

The war was over in 1944.

The central Advisory Board of Education set up by the British Government with a Chairman visualized achieving over a period of 50 years a Standard of Primary Education.

What is Primary Education.

We all know this it is a different from what was set up as a Standard. We have many types, the criteria is it must be 4years old and it gets admitted to a Govt School or a Private School. After that it goes up to University level in stages. We have many type of schools and they operate with their own standard of teaching. However in interior rural areas they do not operate. It is Govt School.A building with 4 walls and a Tin sheet over it.There will be more temples in those interior villages than schools. With Child labor there is no way to primary education. We can see children in all Auto Garages,Cycle Shops, cheap Restaurants, foot path Vendors. Our political leaders see them but turn other way. They have only Colleges in Engineering.

Primay Education is still Primary in India.
