Sample Letter From Teacher to Parent in September

Updated on February 15, 2016

Communication with parents is of utmost importance. I like to start this process on the first day of school by sending home a letter the first day. Some teachers may prefer to mail a letter over the summer before school starts. It is vital for the teacher to introduce him/herself, make the parents feel welcomed and let them know how the teacher can be reached throughout the year. Here is a sample letter:

September 5, 2012

Dear Parents,

Welcome to another school year. I trust that you all had a restful and enjoyable summer.

I will be starting my eighth year here at Elmwood School and I am very excited about teaching Kindergarten again this year.

I will be sending home a weekly newsletter each Friday beginning the week of September 10th. This will include announcements, reminders and topics covered in each subject.

The best way to contact me is by the school email at I look forward to seeing all of you at Back to School Night next Wednesday.
