Save Chester College of New England

Updated on April 30, 2012

Artists, Writers, & Thinkers who need your help to save the school they love!

Chester College Needs Your Help!

Because of low enrollment in the freshman class of 2009-2010, CCNE is facing a budget deficit of $800,000, and if the money is not raised by May 9, the Board of Trustees may be forced to close the school, or sell it off to another institution.

Chester College is the only real home many of its 144+ students have. It is a small, close-knit community of artists, writers, and thinkers. Chester may be tiny in square footage, but it has a robust, vibrant vision; the students are dynamic, creative, and focused. Everyone—from the vice president of academic affairs, to professors, and students—knows each and every person at this school by name. The teachers are working artists and writers, and they are equally passionate about what they do and about transmitting their own love of learning and expression to their students.

Chester College of New England is the college I am attending, majoring in Creative Writing. I am currently a junior, next year entering my final year. However, due to this sudden news, my future is now hazy, along with the future of many wonderful professors and other faculty members.

CCNE was founded as a place specifically for artists and writers. At CCNE, students are able to express themselves creatively. Our majors are important and are not overlooked or lost in the mess of other majors such as nursing or business. Our school focuses on the arts, which gives students a wonderful experience. At CCNE, we're not a number. We're family. Professors, students, even the Dean know everyone by their names and we all care about each other. We work together inside and outside of the classroom and we all share so many memories together.

There's a lot I could say about my college, but I think it's something you'll need to see for yourself.

We have a website dedicated to saving our college. On it, you will find stories by students, alumni, and even faculty members, all sharing their experiences with CCNE and why the college means so much to them.

You'll also find media mentions, different fundraising activities we're doing, and so much more!

So, if you have just a few minutes to spare, at least take a look. If you can't donate, at least spread the word. I've worked too hard to not be able to graduate next year. Education is important, and I've worked hard making sure I had a higher form of education to make it in the world. I can't let this all be for nothing. You may not be able to donate (neither can I!) but any support and spreading the word is greatly appreciated! Please help me save my school so we can have a bright future for all of our students!

If you can spare some change, please donate!

Sign our petition as well!

And, check out this video some of our students and staff put together! If this doesn't show passion for something, I don't know what does!
