Science Kit for Young Children Encourages Learning About Our Body
Fun Learning Kit and Book for Learning about our Body
Fun Educational Kit with Included Book and Accessories
Teachers and parents who have children who are home schooled often purchase extra materials to enhance learning. This fun and educational kit for learning about our body is of interest to those who purchase extra curriculum materials for their classroom or for at-home learning. The kit includes a book, a set of fact cards, 30 fun stickers to use with the book, a 12-inch skeleton model for children to assemble, and a double-sided poster. Children have fun with the small skeleton to assemble. Hands-on materials always add to the appeal of a learning kit.
The beautifully illustrated 40-page book that is included with the learning kit is young reader friendly. Chapters include details about cells, genes, and tissues that make up our body, our bones and joints, our five senses, and information about our heart and lungs. A chapter with information about health and nutrition is also part of the book. Real photos make the book appealing to young learners. The book chapters also include a special inset "Did You Know" for learning special and intriguing facts about the chapter topic. The book concludes with a helpful glossary of terms that relate to learning about the body. A set of fact cards is included.
Adventures in Science: The Human Body was published by Silver Dolphin Books and is recommended for ages 6+. It has an ISBN of 978-1-68412-129-8.

Home Schooling and Classroom Use
The included paperback 40-page book for young readers encourages learning about our body. The chapters cover science concepts that are part of the STEM concepts that are introduced in kindergarten and elementary grades. Each chapter stands alone for teaching the concept and the book can be used for several weeks or months to enhance learning about the body. Teachers will find the book helpful in introducing each topic in separate lessons. One of the appealing examples of separate lessons that can be built from the book is the chapter on Our Five Senses. This chapter takes each sense of hearing, touch, smell, sight, and taste that teachers can use for a lesson or several lessons about how we use each sense. My kindergarten students always enjoyed the concepts that could be learned from lessons about our five senses. Older children will enjoy the chapters of the organs of our body and how these organs function to make our body work.
The helpful glossary at the conclusion of the book presents the opportunity to learn terms that are associated with our body.
Sample Lesson Plan for Our Five Senses:
*Read the section about our five senses from the book in a short session when introducing this topic. Each sense stands alone for several lessons and can be easily extended for several weeks. Teachers who are using the STEM curriculum for teaching the 5 senses will find this section with real photos to be a useful tool.
*Bring in examples of foods that fit the sense of taste: Sour, Bitter, Salty, Sweet. Children will be amazed at the fun fact from the book that they have approximately 10,000 taste buds. Create a class poll of children's favorite or least favorite taste.
*Bring in objects to use when learning about our sense of smell.
*Bring in objects to explore with the sense of touch. Hot, cold, soft, hard objects make a good mixture to explore. A fun game to play with blindfolding the child as they use their sense of touch to determine what an object is can extend the lesson.
*Bring in objects to explore the sense of hearing with children. Small bells, an alarm clock, or other objects that children can explore for hearing can be used in a game to identify the object.
