Solar Eclipse Extravaganza May 20th 2012

Updated on May 15, 2012

The eclipse will occur in the late afternoon or early evening of May 20th throughout the northern American region.

A solar Eclipse occurs when the sun vanishes behind the moon., the moon revolves in its orbit around the earth and comes between the sun and the earth.

The moon blocks the light of the sun and a shadow of the moon is cast over the earths surface. This year is a very unique year, there will be a rare ring of fire, actually called an annulus.

The solar eclipse will be able to be seen in over 150 national parks. So grab your telescopes, cameras and lounge chairs and record the big event for a keep sake.

Remember while enjoying the solar eclipse, you do not want to look directly into eclipse, there are UV rays glaring down the visible of the sun which can cause serious damage to the human eye.

Such a shame it will only be seen in the North American region, I am sure there will be some awesome pictures online afterwards though. Thanks for sharing :)

I have only seen one solar eclipse, the light faded, the birds stopped singing, time stopped for a number of minutes and then the day came back.
