Strepsils - Side Effects

Strepsils is the world's largest sold medication for sore throat. Strepsils Contain two main ingredients amylmetacresol and dichlorobenzyl alcohol. Both these ingredients fall in the category of antiseptics which kill bacteria in the mouth and throat. Strepsils helps in reliving of the sore throat and symptoms of throat infections. Strepsils help relive soar throat by lubricating and soothing the painful area.

How to use Strepsils tablet
Sucking an effective medicated lozenge such as a Strepsil tablet can help lubricate the painful area in your throat. (Stepsils tablets are not meant to be swallowed but to be sucked on) It works by lubricating the painful areas. Dichlorobenzyl alcohol present in strepsils helps kill germs and helps relive mouth and throat infections.
Uses of Strepsils Sore Throat and Blocked Nose lozenges
Main use of strepsils is to relieve the symptoms of mouth and throat infections but it also effective against nasal congestion, common cold and cough.
Don't Take Strepsils If
You have fructose intolerance or has sucrase isomaltase deficiency.
You are allergic to any ingredient in the medication or if the symptoms persist even after taking the tablets for more than three days. Not recommended for children under the age of 6. There is a risk of choking hazard for children 8 years and under. Common allergic reactions include rashes or itching on the lips.

Although Strepsils is a harmless medication without many side effects, allergic reactions can be severe, Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any allergic reactions. Carry the Strepsils sachet with you so that the doctor can identify the allergen and the nature of the allergy.
Recommended dosage for adults is one every 2-3 hours
For most of the Strepsils range no more than 12 in 24 hours.
8-12 years – No more than 8 in 24 hours. Not recommended for children under the age of 6.
Adults – No more than 12 in 24 hours. Overdose may lead to stomach upset.
Strepsils cold variant not suitable for children under the age of 12.

Only allergic reaction is reported as severe side effects. Sore tongue is the only other side effect reported. Although an overdose of the medication may lead to stomach upset.
No other side effects reported.

During Pregnancy And Breastfeeding
Usage of this medicine is not considered to be hazardous during pregnancy or breastfeeding (As stated by the manufacturer). It is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before taking any new medication during pregnancy.
It is recommended to limit the intake of this medication during pregnancy time.
