Surprising and shocking psychological things about yourself.

Updated on June 30, 2016

It is an evident fact that psychological status of each person is different when compared to others. There are many interesting as well as unbelievable things our tiny brain does without even our conscious sense.

You’ve probably noticed companies such as Pizza Hut, KFC, Domino’s, McDonald’s all use red color in the logos. Red is a color associated with excitement and youthfulness. It also stimulates the area of the brain which is responsible for color.

Most of the brands have researched to figure out which color works best to stimulate that particular emotion which can drive the sales of their products. So, everything around is related psychologically to our brain.

Lets know some mind boggling facts about ourselves!!

  1. We can only remember 3-4 things simultaneously

There is a concept in psychology known as ’The magical number seven, plus or minus two’, according to which an individual cannot keep more than 5-9 pieces of information in their head simultaneously. A large amount of the information stored in your short-term memory stays there fore just 20-30 seconds and then disappears, unless we read or tell ourselves it again and again. Although the majority of people can remember around seven numbers for a short period, it’s extremely difficult for just about anyone to remember ten or more. The latest research suggests that most people are able to keep only around three to four pieces of information in their head at any one time. A good example: think about when you’ve tried to memorise a telephone number: the chances are you broke it down into blocks of three or four numbers to help you remember it.

2.) Some habits are hard to let go off :

Do you think you get habituated to things easily? How many days or even months do you think our human brain can take to get used to a particular habit? well, the answer is 66! Yes,our brain takes about 66 days to make a habit that sticks.

    3.) You really can't multitask :

This is one of the psychological facts about yourself mentioned in a few previous articles.

Many people believe they can do more than one thing at a time, but studies show that the mind can only attend to one task at a time, with the exception of a few physical tasks such as walking.

You may be able to shift from one task to another very quickly, but it’s impossible to focus on more than one task at a time.

4.) Your mind wanders 30% of the time. :

Whether or not you know it, it does. We like to think we have control of our minds all the time but we don’t. This actually isn’t a bad thing either. Part of your brain is paying attention to what it’s supposed to be doing the other part is intrigued by something else but that something else could spark a great thought or idea that you never had before. Let your mind wander. It’s all good.

    5.) Watch your words :

May be sorrow of ours may be minimized by sharing with others but never think of sharing your achievements or goals you wanna achieve in your life with others. Of course it is shocking to hear but, if you announce your goals to others, you are less likely to make them happen you lose motivation by doing so. Studies confirmed this.

    6.) Phobias, phobias everywhere :

There are about 400 distinct phobias well recognized by our psychologists. Are you certain you don't have even one among them?

7.) Secret behind your favorite song :

What do you think, that made your brain to get convinced to a particular song as your favorite one? Well, your favorite is most probably your favorite because you associate it with a emotional event in your life.

The type of music you most frequently listen, reveals the way you perceive the world. So, better to choose wisely.

    9.) Spending the money :

Hard to believe, but spending money on others yields you more happiness than on spending it on yourself.

10.) Phobias are inherited too! :

A recent study confirmed that, phobias are memories passed down through generations in DNA.

studies have shown that, crying makes you feel better, reduces stress and may even help to keep the body healthy.

18.) Certainty can be induced :

The feeling of certainty can be triggered without actual need for reasoning and facts, using electric stimulation over a specific part of brain.

24.) Video games are divine :

People who play video games often are much more likely to have lucid dreams than non-gamers.They were also better able to influence their dream worlds, as if controlling a video-game character.

25.) Your unconscious brain knows more than you do :

That’s a bit thought provoking but it happens to think before your conscious mind. We have a tendency of not tuning into it because, well, it’s unconscious.

26.) Your phone, your life actually :

When you lose your phone, your anxiety and reaction is comparable to having a near death experience.

27.) Stress ruins your performance levels :

People who are too stressed will absolutely not perform to the best of their ability. It should go without saying but people in this category still believe that they can put their stress on the back burner while at work or doing important tasks.
